Trump Makes Blatantly Racist Comments About Congresswomen, Then Doubles and Triples Down: “Many People Agree With Me”

Politics • Views: 27,028

This weekend we saw some of the most blatant expressions of racism yet from our disgusting president*, telling progressive Democratic women they should “go back” to their real countries - even though all but one of the women he attacked were born in the United States, and all are citizens.

And as usual, today this vile human being is not only refusing to apologize, but is doubling and tripling down on the racism because “many people agree with me.” What can I even say about this any more?

Nobody in America complains more about America than… Donald Trump.

And by the way…

Many people do agree with him, true and many people in this country are irredeemable bigots. And many more will be happy when he’s out of office.

“many” does not even remotely equate to “most”, though.

The GOP agrees with Trump. This is the deplorable base that Hillary Clinton correctly identified, but incorrectly noted the scope/size of the bigot brigade.

It’s far larger than any of the GOP would care to admit openly. They’re too busy both-siding their way through the latest proof Trump’s a fucking racist grabasstic POS.

When exactly did Ilhan Omar say that “Al Qaeda is wonderful!” and how do we know she “hates Jews”?

TUCKER CARLSON SAID SO!

There is no evidence that Rep. Omar “hates Jews” other than the lame “Benjamins” tweet that she has already apologized for like a bazillion times. However we know that Trump approves of actual nazis (“very fine people,” Seb Gorka) and has never apologized for his Star-of-David on piles of money Tweet which is at least as bad, if not worse, than anything Rep. Omar said.

What has Trump done to make American Jews safer after the Pittsburgh & Poway shootings? NOTHING. He pretends to be a “friend of Israel” because Bibi has bought into Jared’s Mideast peace plan ponzi scam along with MBS and the Emir Of Qatar. For Trump & Jared, it literally really is “all about the Benjamins”

It’s interesting that this time the rest of the Republican enablers are actually being taken to task by the press for staring at their shoes and hiding behind the curtains while the yam does racism in front of the whole planet. Not that this will move them to do the right thing, but just making life uncomfortable for the assholes who could actually put a stop to this is a fucking breath of fresh air.

We’re in the midst of a self-declared national emergency at the border, and Trump doesn’t have a Sec Def or DHS confirmed. They’re acting positions.

We’ve been without a Sec Def that was confirmed by the Senate for 7 months.

McConnell doesn’t give a shit that Trump’s doing an end run around the advise and consent. They want to avoid scrutiny of Trump’s awful picks, so they’ll run out acting people to those positions, instead of seeking confirmation - which requires vetting even though the GOP will rubber stamp Trump picks no matter how extreme or unqualified (or both).

Mitt is probably the worst of the chickenhawks in one respect. The others, Nugent, Trump, Limbaugh, etc. mostly became war-mongers after they had opportunistically dodged the draft. Mitt, though, was a publicly outspoken advocate of the Vietnam War before he skipped out for the missionary position ;) in France. Where someone decides that “actually, hyper biased news is the best and most truthful reporting and trying to have actual objectivity instead of false balance is giving yourself up to a ‘neutral elite’!’

The idea of unbiased, neutral news media is actually a fairly recent innovation in the history of journalism. It dates from the formation of the big wire services, beginning with Reuters in 1851. They fed news to a variety of outlets, with many different points of view, and as neutral a stance as possible was a necessity for marketing the service. Before then, and in fact until well into the 20th century, newspapers had a strong editorial orientation that they often proclaimed from the masthead.

This is the fascism now expressed openly in the USA here in 2019 by the current President, monolithically backed by the Republican Party and 35% of the country. It is fascism wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.

So, Q-anon’s all-pervasive international pedophile ring may be real, except that it’s composed of Republicans. I’ve always gotten a projection vibe from the RWNJ’s eagerness to accuse others of pedophilia on fabricated or non-existent evidence. They do protest too much.

When one looks at Twitter’s top story for the top trend #RacistPresident… the story picked by Twitter is an opinion piece from the SCMP, a news outlet now owned by an organization associated with the Chinese government:

Donald Trump’s racist vitriol appeals to his base. Expect more of it

Now the writer is a regular for the SCMP, though he is a native English speaker not from China.

Still, it’s in the interests of many to highlight problems in the US… and there is no problem bigger than Trump.

He had helped organize pro-administration demonstrations as a counter to peace protests in college.

George Romney was a good governor of Michigan and a good person. As governor of Massachusetts, his son successfully implemented a statewide health care plan that was the template for the ACA. The question is why would a man with serious political credentials, in his first year of office as a Senator, who has wealth that insulates him from any politically motivated financial attacks, why would this man behave in such a craven fashion.

Would it be possible that he believes Pence will be either Agnewed or Trumped and that he could assume the role as Trump’s VP — i.e. Trump’s Ford? And then make sure Trump is pushed out so that he could assume the office he’s wanted his entire life? I just cannot figure out any other reasonable motivation for his behavior in office.

Racism didn’t keep slaveholders and their overseers from repeatedly raping the women under their control.

Or quite frankly, having their slaves perform lots of very intimate tasks for them. Most wealthy slaveholding women had slave women act as wet nurses. This didn’t stop with slavery as domestic work became the go to employment for African-American women.

Guardian columnist notes:

From Trump to Boris Johnson, we’re moving from post-truth to post-shame

A confession: I tend not to read the online comments about anything I write for the Guardian. But as I am about to embark on a short “politics of mental health” speaking tour down under, I made an exception for the comments section beneath an interview I did for Guardian Australia. I am glad I did. For there were two comments so good they left me wishing I had written them myself. I shall certainly be using them in future.

I have no idea who sleuthfortruth is, but someone should find them and hire them as a speechwriter. “Voting for a populist party is like diving headfirst into an empty swimming pool, because you’re angry that there’s no water in it.” Brilliant. Trump and Brexit to a tee.

[…]

Johnson and Trump are very much alike. Not as alike as Trump and Farage, but alike enough that the UK is in trouble.

And speaking of Johnson:

PM candidate Johnson declines to say if girlfriend will live with him in Downing St

Boris Johnson, the frontrunner to become Britain’s prime minister this month, declined to say on Monday whether his girlfriend would live with him in the leader’s official residence if he wins the contest.

Johnson, who is currently divorcing his second wife, has avoided answering questions about a late-night row with his girlfriend Carrie Symonds last month that led to neighbours calling police to his home.

[…]

“Post-shame” indeed.

If it’s for medical reasons, there’s no time limit and the government health service will perform the procedure.

If there’s no medical reason, if it’s purely elective, the government will still do it until 18 weeks if the woman in question is under 18, over 40, active-duty military, or if the pregnancy came from rape, incest or adultery. If she doesn’t fit any of those categories but wants the abortion for whatever her own reasons might be… she has to go to a private doctor and pay for it herself.

One thing I’ve noticed about the Apollo denialists. Many of them have no idea that this was a major program that was carried on in public for many years before Apollo 11. They assume (and are invited to assume) that NASA simply announced they were about to land on the Moon, provided a video feed, and then passed out some pictures. Some even think the first public claim of a Moon landing wasn’t made until after the fact.
At least one denialist dupe I’ve met changed his mind when I informed him just how big it was, with half a million people working on it and Congress publicly voting huge budgets for it year after year. This is rare though, most of the denialists are just assholes who do not care about the truth of their position, so long as it gives them a chance to disparage the achievements of others.

The problem is that his legacy will live on after he’s gone - the divisiveness that started with the Republicans in the Clinton Administration is finally coming to full fruition, and now “partisan politics” is the standard operating procedure. It will take a long time to undo all the damage, though I have little doubt that America will bounce back quickly.

It must royally chap the duplicitous asses of the Russian conspiracy lords that they cannot join in Moon landing denial, at least not officially, since to do so would impugn the intelligence and loyalty of their own revered space scientists, none of whom ever expressed the slightest doubt about the reality of the Apollo landings.

Romney’s mealy “I certainly feel a number of these new members of Congress have views that are not consistent with my experience and not consistent with building a strong America.” is in and of itself a reasonably civil comment.

But it ignores the fact that the GOP President has called for three native-born Americans and a woman who has been here longer than his current wife to go back where they came from.

A totally uncivil comment, and that is what he was being called to respond to.

It’s a dog-whistle, basically describing these women as alien. Mitt doesn’t get a pass because he is polite in his racism.

The conservative movement became a reactionary movement. When that happened is up for debate, but it clearly happened. It is slowly eating itself in the process, as well, playing a game of No True Scotsman… There was a time when you could reach different conclusions within the movement and still get along - there were once, pro-choice Republicans/conservatives and people even favored things like a carbon tax within the party/movement. But those days are gone. Now they crave power for it’s own sake.

Fuck “great.” I’ll just take “not racist” to begin with.

There is and has always been a racist element in the US. See Drumpf and his daddy Fred (who was arrested at a KKK rally in Long Island). Drumpf has emboldened the majority of them to come out of the dark, putrid slime of their collective id and say things behind a nick on social media that most would never say in public.

Many would, of course, but those were the ODs (Original Deplorables) that HRC called out.

I think the proper meme should be “Make America Less Blatantly Racist Again”. It’s probably, at this point, the best we can possibly hope for.

We could use more aggressive media on our side, this is something I will always believe. But this creeps just dangerously close to a relativism where literally nothing matters except the win, where there’s no verifiable truth except what wins the ‘debate’, and who shouts loudest wins.

And it’s easy to always shout loudest when you have the fucking state megaphone on your side. Fox knows this well.

Having lived in Japan, I learnt the importance of “face” to people in that culture.

Not that there aren’t Japanese who are racists - there are many.

But the idea that one can be crude in public is very much a no-no, and doing so is a real problem. And results in the loss of face.

GOPers think he’s made progress towards improving? By doing what? Be specific. Name one thing he’s done that can be construed as making progress.

Equivocating between goddamned Nazis and the people protesting them?
Letting white supremacists come out from under the sheets?

Add up those numbers: 15% improved, 13% tried-and-failed (28%).

Within the margin-of-error of the 27% conservative crasification factor.

284
KGxvi  Jul 15, 2019 • 4:28:25pm

Earlier today I saw Rick Wilson on twitter talking about how the GOP playbook calls for basically going after the most far left members of Congress and trying to wed them to whomever the eventual nominee is. It got me thinking…

They’re using that play with AOC/Omar/Tlaib. What’s interesting is that they’re going after Democrats who are in very solid Democratic district. Notice, for example, they’re not going after Katie Porter who won a seat in south Orange County (in fact, they aren’t going after any of the Democrats from Orange County). Porter is fairly progressive, a student of Elizabeth Warren and all that. Yet they won’t attack her or try and paint her as the face of the terrors of socialism.

There’s a couple of possible explanations for this. First is that they’re just going after women of color because they’re racist assholes (that’s obviously the case for Trump, so as a corollary, they may just be following the boss’s lead). The second is that this only works if the Democrat doesn’t represent a swing/moderate district. Porter, for example, represents a district that is 35/30/29 R/D/I, her voters know her and aren’t necessarily going to buy the claims of her being some crazy leftist whatever.

I’d argue that Democrats should employ this same philosophy - try tying the most reactionary over the edge Republican to their agenda. But then I remember their craziest asshole is actually the president. I do wonder though, if Jeb or Rubio had been the nominee, would the Dems have been able/willing to make Steve King an albatross for the GOP?

When one looks at Twitter’s top story for the top trend #RacistPresident… the story picked by Twitter is an opinion piece from the SCMP, a news outlet now owned by an organization associated with the Chinese government:

Donald Trump’s racist vitriol appeals to his base. Expect more of it

Now the writer is a regular for the SCMP, though he is a native English speaker not from China.

Still, it’s in the interests of many to highlight problems in the US… and there is no problem bigger than Trump.

The Soviet Union pretty much invented whataboutism by deflecting from its human rights abuses by pointing to American Jim Crow to assert we had no moral authority lecturing them.

There’s no reason to think Communist China wouldn’t do the same with the racism of the Republican Party.

Or, he’s contemplating another run at the Presidency in an election, and Mr 47% and Self-Deport needs to maintain the racist conservative base voters.

Romney is a racist too and that Self-Deport comment in his campaign showed it.

Romney is 72, unless he’s running in 2020, there’s little chance he gets another bite at the apple. He’ll be 77 on election day in 2024, Trump was the oldest man to take office and he was “only” 70.

Cruz on the other hand, at 48 has 4-5 presidential cycles left to be rejected by voters.

Romney is the face of the Republican party as it wished it could be. Remember what I wrote earlier about “face” in Japan? Mitt Romney has a tinge of that idea in his own practice of politics, that is, the appearance publicly of oneself is as important as anything else.

There’s one youngish one in the backyard that has become friends with out goofy coonhound. Glory (the hound) carries the possum around. One evening, when it was raining really hard, the possum knocked on the kitchen door asking if Glory was going to come out and play.

Glory doesn’t like lightning and thunder and rain, and gave me this look that said “can’t the possum come inside for while?”

Much as I have become accustomed to sharing TheBackwoods space with wildlife, I really had to draw the line at that.

Up around these parts, possums are considered a nuisance. In some places, they’re shot on sight. I’m kinda indifferent, for the most part, but I would not call them cute.

also, baby raccoons are ridiculously cute, but those need to go far far away, along with the rest of their gaze.

I have seen possums in our backyard and sometimes they even come up on the porch but the badgers run them off. The badgers live under the porch but they come up topside for “date night.”

Every raccoon birth cohort has at least four individuals, each of whom are, to varying degrees, friendly or afraid of “the other”. The spread of behavior possibilities in each litter is quite remarkable:

One VERY friendly,
One friendly,
One shy, and
One VERY afraid!

Sadly, if they are begging at your back door that means their mother is probably already dead. 😣

We’ve seen it year after year after year.

My dad would trap the things in a live trap. One time he went on a business trip and left a baited trap on the fence row. I come home from school the next day, and wouldn’t you know it, a very large and very angry female trash panda is sitting in the trap, glaring at me. I had to listen to it for two more days when escorting the cats to their home in the barn, until he finally came home and dispatched it.

re: #204 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

We are overdue for a party system collapse (usually identified by either the collapse of a major party or a realignment after three successive US House losses and the Presidency). I would be very happy to see the Greed over People party go away for good.

We need to remember also that Romney’s daughter is a big cheese in the RNC apparatus. And that the Romney family’s connections run throughout corporate America, the LDS, and the Republican party.

Romney is the face of the Republican party as it wished it could be. Remember what I wrote earlier about “face” in Japan? Mitt Romney has a tinge of that idea in his own practice of politics, that is, the appearance publicly of oneself is as important as anything else.

Many never-Trumpers wish dearly that Mitt was the leader. Proper on the outside, but just as atavistic on the inside as the next religious right senior.

Interestingly in Pew Research’s polling after the election, Mormons were one of only three Christian groups which shifted dramatically to the Democrats.

As a huge fan of bats, I hate to hear this.

I got bit in my sleep about 10 years ago, on my scalp, and the crunch of the teeth woke me up. Just a bit of blood where the bite was. No sign of whatever bit me, so we went to ER. They found two punctures, and I pushed for a rabies series (which is not bad now, BTW!). Took the lead in getting the serum from the state for both my husband and I, since he was technically exposed. After we started the series, we discovered what did it, and trapped the SOB. The biggest, fattest rat I have ever seen. Then I got the bill. My husband was on Medicare, and the bill was covered. My bill was over $20000. !!! I threw an absolute hissy fit, pointing out that the state furnished the serum, and all I did was walk into the ER at the prescribed time and get the needle. Fought it for months, and finally ended up paying about $950. Amazing.

OK. Cats downstairs getting a snack or sleeping in the other room. I close the door in the office and quietly open a tin I keep cat treats in so that I can load up two “treat mice” so I can hide those around the apartment for the cats to look for. Plus a few treats to put around here and there to find in addition to that.

About 30 seconds after I open the tin Chat Noir and Fat Cat* push open the door and say “we hear you got treats out for us!”

And Chat Noir started following me around once he saw the treat mice.

No, conservatives would deport him. “Choose between Mary and Joseph, and we’ll deport the other back to Egypt.”

They sent me a list of “rules” and invited me to pick the one I allegedly violated.

How about, “None of them, Katie.”

This is like the gun humper argument when you misspeak about some minute point of tech

You used the word “the” wrong so everything you said is wrong

That logic doesn’t apply to “blastocyst,” “foetus,” and “baby” though because reasons.

re: #437 Anymouse 🌹

I just point out a “magazine” is the place on a US Navy vessel where ordinance and small arms are stored. The thing you put in an automatic or semi-automatic rifle in the Navy is called a “clip.”

Therefore their argument is invalid, since they clearly don’t know the correct terms for weapons.

A clip in gun terms is generally a metal strip that is grooved to hold several cartridges as a storage medium and were generally bound in bandoliers or webbing to aid in quick reloading of early semi automatic rifles that did not have detachable magazines. The M1 Garand and early model SKS used stripper clips for fast reloading.

I’m blocked by Harry Turdledove and I have no idea why. This suck. maybe it was a mistake. I conversed with him many times, he has liked some of my tweets, I don’t remember saying anything at all offensive.
