Really? Who’s still clinging to that narrative?
Besides jarring with his often-bellicose “tough-guy” bluster, Trump’s nominal policies of (i.e. bullshit sloganeering about) “disengagement” and/or “nonintervention” have usually been based mainly on monetary “grounds”, somebody or other not paying us enough, or “getting a free ride” or whatever. And/or coupled with phony I’m-the-only-one-who’s-boosted-the-military blather as well (remember “out of ammunition”?? I know, it was all of 10 days ago(?) ).

I do have first hand experience with NHS in England.
My first husband (RIP) was in end stage Crohn’s Disease and it was his first trip anywhere on a plane.
We were at a B&B in Lancashire and he had an attack at 4 am.
Front desk called in the emergency and an NHS emergency doctor arrived within 20 minutes and got him stabilized.
Next morning we returned to my friend’s vicarage and his neighbor happened to be a physician, who examined hubs and suggested heading to A&E.
We had purchased travel insurance, which covered a private hospital, so we headed off to BMI The Highfield Hospital in Rochdale, where the neighbor physician had admitting privileges.
Total cost of a two-day stay, plus prescriptions, was a fraction of the cost it would have been here in the States.
And by fraction, I mean the total bill at a private hospital before insurance was less than $1,000.

I have 3 road bikes that I switch off riding. I tend to ride one exclusively for a month or more, then bring another one out and ride it for a while. Every time I switch, I remember why I keep that bike, because there’s something I really love about each one. I gave each a name.
“Lots of people name their
swordsbikes.”
“Lots of c**ts.”
You’ve already seen Dreadnought, my Battaglin built from Columbus MAX tubes, painted Ferrari red, with all polished Aluminum Campy Chorus kit. And you’ve seen Plastic Fantastic, my Carbon fiber Bianchi 928 with Veloce kit.
But my first serious road bike is a Ritchey Road Logic I bought new in 1997, at a discount because it had Shimano’s 7410 8 speed Dura Ace kit, which had just been made obsolete. I’ve been riding it for over 22 years now. I had it repainted about 12 years ago, from white to deep blue, but I keep the 8 speed kit, because it was the smoothest shifting drivetrain I ever experienced - one click of the STI and it was in the next gear - no grind, no “Campy Clank”, no sound but the click of the STI and it was instantly and silently in the next gear.
BUT, I got older and fatter, and 25 teeth in the back got to be not enough. I’ve dithered about upgrading it for at least 10 years. Last month I switched to riding it after a year or so not riding it (I’d saved it as a reward for losing weight, but that wasn’t gonna happen!). I finally decided to bite the bullet, and upgrade my 1994 technology to 2004!!! TEN speeds instead of 8! A 28 tooth cog, instead of 25!
I kept as much of the old 7410 kit as I could, replacing only the cassette, STIs and rear derailleur. New cables, of course. I carefully adjusted it on the workstand till it shifted up and down the cassette smoothly. Then, to get the STI placement on the bars right, I put it on the stationary trainer. The shifting was for shit, especially the front! It wouldn’t shift into the big ring, till I adjusted it so far that half the time it threw the chain off to the outside! Shifting to the small ring meant either dropping the chain into the gap between the rings, or throwing it all the way off the small ring! I was downhearted.
So, I put it back on the workstand and adjusted everything so it worked there, and hoped the road would be more like it than the trainer. I went ahead and wrapped the b bars.
Today, I took it for a shakedown cruise, 28 miles of San Mateo County rolling roads, using ALL the gears. It shifted just like the old 8 speed kit, but with 2 more gears! Sometimes, the only way I was sure it shifted was my cadence went up! And I’m in love again.

Love it. I lived with the Campy clank for many years. Sometimes I could get it well calibrated, but when I moved to southern Indiana and had to contend with super-steep hills I had new gears put in and it never worked well again. So a few years ago my brother swapped a Dura-ace system he was no longer using onto my Bianchi Giro steel frame and it worked great (still shift on the frame, but I don’t mind). Unfortunately, I haven’t used it in a couple of years and it needs a thorough overhaul.
My son inherited my aged father’s pristine carbon frame Trek 5500 (bought in the 1990s through my bro who managed a shop at the time) but he’s been disinclined to use it. It’s slightly too big for me, but I’m thinking of confiscating it because I can indeed ride it. It’s pretty sweet (if also out of date, but the shifters are on the brakes instead of the tube).

Two more weird things about Tulsi that I didn’t know until recently:
1. The Daily Stormer took credit for getting her into the debates:
“We got Tulsi in the debates,” the website’s founder wrote earlier this year. “I kind of didn’t really want to do the whole big push on this site and have her linked to us if she was going to make it without us (both because I don’t want the media attention and I doubt she wants to be considered a nazi [sic] candidate), but as it was clear she wasn’t going to make it without us, I figured it didn’t matter.”
(I thought Anglin was among the missing, hiding out in some foreign location, to avoid various lawsuits and indictments.)
2. Tulsi has some weirdo internet consultant who she pays big bucks (just since January, $259,000), who lives on some remote lake in the Pacific Northwest in a cabin owned by the Science of Identity Foundation. The guy supposedly has no political background.
(h/t to DailyKos, where I found the links to this second bit of weirdness)

That’s just it. Trump has the cult of personality to defend and protect him. His cronies don’t so when they fuck up bad there’s no safety net for them, just a one way ticket to the underside of the nearest bus.
re: #92 HappyWarrior
I saw a clip of Kamala Harris explaining this all from a prosecutor’s perspective. The media wants to make it all more complicated than it is. A crime happened. Trump admitted it.
That’s why I think her role should be going after Trump as AG, and while she’s at it, Elaine Chao.

She’d be great at it.
My toaster oven just died. I turned it on to pre heat it for my dinner and it heated up but the light went out and it made no clicking noise when I moved the temperature dial down. So I put my chicken pot pie in the Breville Smart Oven and for the first time and it was very good. Now I have to figure out if I want to leave the Smart oven on the cart I bought for it or put it on my counter.
Gah. Suspected that the old thread had to be dead, but Auto was turned on and I didn’t see a link to a new one, so I still posted.
In a sane world, I would not have noticed “ultimate solution” trending and then been driven to search “Kurdish Problem”.
But this is the world that’s determined to replay WWII and seems to hope for an outcome where all countries everywhere are made safe for authoritarianism, sooo:
ISIS is a Kurdish problem also. The western world cannot be responsible for the worlds violence. China doesn’t have these religious issues
— Drunken Angel (@TitteringA) October 20, 2019
—so the Kurds-in-Turkey actually had more autonomy in 1912 than they did after Ataturk. And that was STILL more than #SultanTayyip intends for them because he plans a unitary Sunni state.

I’m hoping it turns out to be something simple like the power supply. I don’t use that computer hardly at all, but I still love it.

So do I. If it’s the board or even “just” the CPU you’re boned because nobody makes bare Power architecture for anything other than integrated units anymore. I take it you have the tools to open the case? I think Apple was using those weird screws that need a six-pointed driver in 2K…

Cart is good as it allows more counter space unless cart takes up valuable floor space.

That is what I decided to do. The Smart oven will be on the counter where the toaster oven was.

(Suggestion from the web)
There is a “power OK” LED inside the cube. It is green. It can be seen when you peer into the gets from the outside. Disconnect the power supply and it goes out, reconnect and its back.
Electronic stuff always smells dusty/burnt. If you had fried something, there would be nothing vague about the smell. (It will smell awful and means the magic smoke has escaped)
The most likely problem is a dead PRAM battery. The battery is accessible if you pull the “core” out of the acrylic shell. Many problems like this are solved in other Macs by resetting the PRAM. To reset the pRAM in this Mac, the Video card may have to be removed. The first part of the troubleshooting procedure from the service manual is in the next post.

Try this!
US officials tell me ALARM BELL RINGING among diplomats in DC that U.S. could one day be held responsible for Crimes Against Humanity for ethnic cleansing of Syrian Kurds by opening the door to it, watching it, encouraging it (Trump’s tweets and statements) and not stopping it.

It’s still in production, for at least one more season:
The series will air a sixth and final season consisting of 14 episodes beginning on January 7, 2020.[5][6] The show airs on the cable network Pop TV in the United States.
Great cast…can’t go wrong with Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, and Chris Elliott.

Was really disheartened earlier to see some people I grew up with saying they intended to vote for Trump again. One of my friends called out Trump and anyone who voted for him. I just don’t get it sigh. No one I was close with obviously but it makes me queasy as hell seeing Trump supporters cry about how no one understands them and people should be tolerant of them.

Mostly I40 to Flagstaff with a diversion to Denver, then dropped down to I10 and drove its length from Tucson back to AL.

I got here slightly after GJ/FB’s post, and I was frightened by my lack of interest. Everybody and his or her dog and/or/cat is a bike mechanic here, so I am of a reduced specialness. My partial employment is in a Thai restaurant. I have an interview a block away from that employer a half an hour after my shift there tomorrow. Maybe something better, maybe something additional.
