The housing agency was supposed to issue funding notices to 18 states affected by disasters on Sept. 4. They published all the notices except Puerto Rico’s. The publication of the notice would have allowed Puerto Rico to start drafting a plan that would create the structures needed to manage the much-needed funds.

At least Trump sent only one letter.

Boris sends two and an underling sends one to explain the first Boris letter:

Brexit: UK sends three letters to the EU - what they say, and what they mean

Not an asshole, just a moron. I have no idea how many Texans I have seen pour flammable liquids down fire ant mounds and then the light them, not realizing that hydrocarbons, in and of themselves being toxic to the mound.

It’s a hell of a show, though.

After days of insisting Doral was the best and cheapest place to hold the G7 Summit, Donny comes out today and whines that he’s gonna have to order a search for a new place. So not only do we have an admission that there was never a vetting process in the first place (else they could just go to option B, C, D, etc), but all those suckers in the Repub ranks who crawled out from under his bootheel to sing the praises of his roach motel of a golf course now realize just how cheap the going rate was for their souls.

The truly sad part? Wherever he sends it next will still be declared the “best” site” and no matter how fucked things get, he’ll still be praised for how he “handled it.”

It seems to be a consensus.

The flip side to that is 40%+ of the American population not only believe that these events have either had no effect on America’s reputation or actually increased it. They think Doral was a symbol of Trump’s charity because he was going to allow the summit to happen on his property without making a dime off it, that the business in Ukraine shows he’s dedicated to rooting out corruption (particularly that done by Dems), that the whole business with the Kurds shows Trump keeps his promises by getting troops out of Syria, and that the business with the Taliban being invited to Camp David shows he’s a man of peace because he was trying to negotiate a deal to bring the fighting to an end.

And how do they explain his abysmal poll numbers? “FAKE NEWS!”

It’s the sort of brainwashing that would make Orwell applaud.

A farming business owned by the family of West Virginia’s billionaire governor has received $125,000 in soybean and corn subsidies, the maximum allowed from a federal program meant to help American farmers through the U.S. trade war with China,” the AP reports.

“There is no evidence Gov. Jim Justice did anything illegal. But at least one analyst said the payments to the richest man in West Virginia are unseemly, given his wealth. And the subsidies have thrown the spotlight again on his business empire and the potential conflicts of interest it poses

See, I would have been compelled to tell this moron that Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat. He runs in their primaries, but only until he’s won the nomination, at which time he spins a deal to run unopposed by them as an “Independent” on the promise that he’ll caucus with Senate Dems. He has no loyalty to the party, he’s willing to sell out the “working class” when it suits him (like signing off on dumping toxic waste in their backyards if their minorities), and he live every bit as richly as his “establishment” counterparts.

Developing the sensor was a challenge, says Teyssier.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

The next step is to make the skin more realistic, including with embedded hair and temperature features. Previously, Teyssier designed a robotic finger which enables smartphones to crawl across a table.

Ibid. But the crawl across a surface feature is pretty cool.

Tulsi lied about the Mueller report. She continues to mischaracterize what happened in 2016. She continues to portray herself as a true progressive and smear others who have been helping progressive causes a long time. And impeachment is about holding him accountable for systemic abuse of power.

It won’t shock when lots of Tumpers and Trump-adjacents refuse to believe the charges brought against Trump. I guess Dems are hoping the hearings will speak for themselves. That’s foolish.

There’s some good points to be taken from that, but there are a number of things that won’t apply. For one, we’ve already tried the idea that it would be better for children to have two parents of the same sex than to be stuck in an institution. That has been dismissed by the Right, and they’re still working to ban gays from adopting.

For another, Democratic policies poll far better than Republican ones, and get majorities across the board. But all you have to do is attach them to Democrats and Republicans will block them out of spite.

I think you do have to go with what Warren is doing, talk about the problems and solutions, and try to bring people on board, because, as I said, Democratic proposals are popular. But we’re not going to be able to count on GOP votes, and there’s no reason to water them down just to get votes.

Here’s a thought: we should change the path of office for any public office to include the words “I shall tell the truth, because my words can be used against me as if I were in a court of law.” Let’s just make it explicit that their words carry extra meaning, and that those words are treated as legal statements.

I swear an oath every few years as an appointed official in my town. I would always say to myself something like this: “Let me remember to measure my words, because it is not what I say, but what others hear, that is truly important.”

I caught the tail end of Nancy Pelosi on the New Yorker radio hour interviewed by Jane Mayer. Mayer said she had anonymous conversations with Republicans who said if an impeachment vote were anonymous at least 30 senators would vote to convict. Pelosi said something like “don’t get caught up in that; Trump is their man; he’s doing what they’ve wanted to do since long before he was elected [then she listed things like taking away women’s right to choose, deregulate environment, drop taxes on the rich, etc.].’ She went on, ‘one term we can eventually repair the damage; two terms will be irreparable—I’m doing everything I can to win; we have to win.’ She’s won back some faith I was starting to lose recently and I believe her. I hope the Dems are fighting for the senate as hard.
