Get the test formulas from a couple of countries, emergency produce them and then test them using drive through stations like South Korea. Run all three tests side by side to see which works best. Tax the billionaires to pay for it as it will keep the people that earn them their wealth healthy.

Love how Bernie (and supporters) loves to play the outsider card and then carps when the party follows its established precedents and rules and pretty much acts as expected as candidates drop out of the nomination process. You know, acting like political parties in the US act.

And Bernie didn’t hang around as part of the Democratic Party post-2016. He immediately left back to his “independent” shell. And It’s not like a lot of people failed to notice that.

And per his claimed Civil Rights record he is very open to being asked “What have you done for us lately?” since the answer to that is not very flattering either.

For the first time since Trump abandoned the 2015 nuclear deal, Iran appears to have enough enriched uranium to produce a single nuclear weapon, though it would take months or years to manufacture a warhead.

Then we have no choice but to undertake a pre-emptive strike.

Just like we have a such a budget deficit from our tax cuts that we have to start cutting social programs to balance it.

But for Trump’s dumbassery in abrogating the JCPOA, Iran would not have resumed enrichment towards building nuclear weapons. They were contained. Everyone said as much - IAEA, EU-6, Russia, and even Israel and the US. But now? Yeah, they’re going to go nuclear and no one will be able to stop them. They’ll join North Korea as a nuclear power and that’s it.

Trump has given up all the leverage we had in both cases, and gotten precisely nothing more than a photo op in return.

Roberts is presiding over a court that will be regarded in the same breath as Taney. It will be an awful legacy. He’s busy trying to roll back civil and voting rights, regulatory oversight and allow companies to pollute and rip off consumers without any consequences.

Also point out that the prosecutor was an obvious crook who abused his authority and is exactly the sort of crook that Republicans want to saddle us with. Go on the offensive with this.

You have enough hand sanitizer to fill a tank???!!?? You should sell it on Ebay or something.

I did manage to find hand sanitizer on line at Walgreen’s on Monday evening, but I had to order a 12 pack of 16 oz. bottles. It hasn’t shipped yet and I’m concerned that they’re going to cancel the order because the single bottles are so in demand.

Well now you know why Ben Shapiro is Ben Shapiro and doesn’t actively practice law. I imagine Ben would get slapped down by judges if he tried the stuff he does in his “debates” in a court room.

Which is exactly why Rush Limbaugh did not follow his family into Law practice and instead took quick advantage of the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine. Why not pontificate with no limits on your stupidity to a white-grievance audience rather then being immediately slapped down by a judge in a court of law?

I was going to pick up some hand sanitizer about a week ago (because my granddaughter is in day care now and generously shares everything she picks up there) but I didn’t because I was sick (with virus shared by generous granddaughter) and of course, now there is no hope. I’ll just stick to hand washing I guess.

(And no, I don’t have coronavirus-or at least not that coronavirus. If covid-19 had been rampant in day care two weeks ago, I feel sure we’d have heard about it by now.)

Greta Thunberg brands EU’s new climate law ‘surrender’ (BBC)

Swedish teen activist Greta Thunberg has rebuked the EU’s plan for tackling climate change, telling MEPs it amounts to “surrender”.

Ms Thunberg spoke in Brussels on Wednesday as the EU unveiled a proposed law for reducing carbon emissions.

If passed, the law would make it a legal requirement for the EU to be carbon neutral by 2050.

EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen hailed the law as the “heart of the European Green Deal”.

But 17-year-old Ms Thunberg dismissed the law as “empty words”, accusing the EU of “pretending” to be a leader on climate change.

re: #114 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

I am hesitant to be optimistic.

The 2018 midterm was a historic turnout election, when midterms are notorious for low voter turnout.

The 2019 election in Kentucky turned out their GOP governor, and in Virginia flipped control of the legislature to the Democrats, flipping both chambers. (Off-year elections are even worse than midterms for turnout.)

Of the sixteen independents/third party legislative members across the country, in 2019 all but three were wiped out of office (almost all replaced by Republicans, holding on to the adage that an independent is a temporarily embarrassed Republican).

In New Jersey in 2019, the GOP was nearly wiped out of the state legislature.

In Mississippi, the Dems gained a couple seats in the state House, breaking the 2/3 majority of GOP there.

In special state legislative elections in 2019 (even lower turn out than off-year elections), Democrats flipped five seats, Republicans flipped two seats, and independents flipped one seat (from a Republican).

Last night’s voter turn out and determination in places like Texas and North Carolina to wrest the right to vote from Republican suppression leaves me very hopeful.

The other was the ship buying tortellini in Naples and serving it every day from then on until we returned home. We made an emergency stop in Bermuda to off-load a bunch of crew because of food poisoning.

Every shop supervisor in my division (IM-3) but me got to spend time in a Bermuda hospital; I was very sick but still able to perform my duties.

It turns out when you put tortellini stuffed with meat and cheese out on a salad bar every day for three weeks, then put it back in a refrigerator, it goes bad.

He’s desperate. He’s looking for any scapegoat if he’s going for President Obama on this one.

The absolute disaster of a response to a real crisis combined with a crashing stock market might undo this choad.

I don’t want anyone else to get sick or lose any money on his horrid financial decisions, but someone needs to stick these to him where he can’t get away from them.

When my wife was at the doc, and her doc noted she’d love to put the whole country in quarantine for three weeks to end this outbreak, I was right in to note if we didn’t have conservatives and Trump making policy we probably wouldn’t be in this mess now and wouldn’t it be nice if the Democrats were in charge of this?

I had a norovirus the beginning of the year. I’m still not 100%. I spent seven hours in the ER.

For weeks I only ate white rice and chicken, neither of which I really like. Even now I want rice and little else.

I couldn’t drink coffee (my life blood) for six weeks. And I’ve just last week started drinking my fav, diet Pepsi again.

It’s like everything inside of me has been altered.

Exactly. It’s just smart. Super Tuesday Not So Super For These Religious-Right Candidates

The most successful of the candidates RWW highlighted this week was Young Kim, who is making her second run in California’s 39th Congressional District. The GOP desperately wants to take back this Orange County seat.

In 2018, Kim appeared to be leading on election night, but lost in a squeaker after all the early and absentee ballots were counted. As of this morning, with 98 percent of precincts reporting, the California Secretary of State shows Kim leading Rep. Gil Cisneros by about 6,800 votes, setting up a November rematch between Kim and Cisneros. Kim has been backed by Lane and Pastor Jack Hibbs, whose Calvary Chapel Chino Hills megachurch ran its own ballot harvesting operation this year. A few weeks ago, Hibbs announced on Facebook, “I just voted for Young Kim.”

Candidates who fell short in California primaries included Sean Feucht in the 3rd Congressional District, Deanna Lorraine in the 12th Congressional District, and Amy Phan West in the 47th Congressional District. West and Lorraine were both endorsed by Hibbs at a Feb. 19 event with Turning Point USA founder and president Charlie Kirk at Hibbs’ church. Feucht had prayed with Trump at the White House in December and was endorsed by Lane and Kirk as well as dominionists Cindy Jacobs and Ché Ahn.

In Texas, young oil-and-gas businessman Jeff McFarlin was part of a crowded Republican primary field in the 23rd Congressional District. McFarlin was seeking the nomination to replace Republican Rep. Will Hurd, who decided not to run for reelection. McFarlin’s candidacy was promoted by Lance Wallnau, a Trump-boosting “prophetic” author and proponent of Seven Mountains dominionism. But unofficial results posted by the Texas Secretary of State office this morning show McFarlin in fifth place, with about 10 percent of the vote.

Besides his endorsement from Loathesome Charlie Kirk, Feucht was the candidate of the Bethel freak show in Redding.

Feds tell Nebraska educators how coronavirus could disrupt schools (Goes to the Omaha World-Herald, eight hours ago):

If confirmed cases of coronavirus disease turn up in Nebraska cities and towns, schools may have to cancel large events or dismiss classes for 14 days or longer, according to new federal guidelines.

Schools then might consider canceling or postponing after-school assemblies and pep rallies, field trips and sporting events, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

School officials should plan for how they would teach kids during a closure, the CDC said, such as providing lessons online. They also should think about how to deal with children who don’t have the Internet or computers at home.

A local (in Omaha) infectious disease expert told officials that large gatherings might need to be cancelled and schools in the state closed if the outbreak spreads into the state here.

What’s new with Trump is ongoing damage from the political appointees, combined with an Orwellian propaganda operation run directly out of the Blight House.

Local media trying to calm fears here.

Coronavirus Needs Caution, Not Fear (Goes to the Sidney, Nebr. Sun-Telegraph, more at the link):

He [Sidney Regional Medical Center Infection Control and Quality Manager Bob Kentner, RN] said much of the treatments and preventions are similar to what most people are taught as children: wash your hands, cover your mouth when coughing and stay home when sick.

He said the big concern is for children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems. The CDC says “it may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.” The website further says people are believed to be most contagious when they are the most symptomatic (sickest). It is, however, possible to spread the virus before symptoms are identified.

The Real Reason Whales Take Tropical Trips Each Year
No migration is too far for healthy skin. Atlas Obscura

Analyses of the whales’ behavior strongly suggests that sloughing the skin—and thereby letting loose a heavy film of microorganisms that congregate on whales in cold water—is what drives the mammals’ movements. It’s the whale’s version of a spa vacation (complete with a good all-over scrubbing) in the tropics.

It may even be related to the behavior when whales leap out of the water and smack back down hard. Skin care: who knew?

I don’t like acting like one man is supposed to fix that problem. If Sanders actually read his economic history, he’d know you fix that by building coalitions. Instead he shits on people whose votes he’ll need. That’s my problem with him. And I have a big problem with him lying about being the leader of the opposition to the war in Iraq. That’s a lie.

I just want him to actually A) show his work like Warren does and B) actually acknowledge that he’s going to need a strong Democratic congress to do it but because he acts like he’s running against everyone and everything, he’d be ineffective and it would be an open invitation for a right wing backlash and that’s the last thing we want. I’m sorry but if you want change, you want to go with the person who will give us the most Democrats in Congress. That’s going to be very important especially if we can get McConnell defeated.

The Log Cabin Republicans have tried for 15 years to have a booth at the State Republican Convention. Honey, as long as there are white headed chubby old Republican women living in absolute terror that their husbands are going to leave them for Jake at State Farm, Log Cabin Republicans cannot defile their State Republican Convention.

Sue Evenwel just ain’t having that stuff. She says that Log Cabin Republicans is an “advocacy group,” which is a discovery that they don’t deny. They favor love, and, you know, mattress thrashing.

Minus: This is the time of year that gas companies make their pitches (along with things that have nothing to do with gas, such as “internal electrical wiring insurance”).

I must point out (good thing the ship hasn’t sailed) that the “outbreaks” you hear about are reported when 3% of the ship — or maybe 100 people — get sick. I’m sure that happens all the time on shore, but how would you know?

If 3% of 320,000,000 people came down with the same illness, I think you would know.

Trump hails ‘positive impact’ of coronavirus: “It’s affecting the airline business…people are staying in our country and they’re shopping and they’re using our hotels…so from that same point I think…there’s a positive impact,”

Besides being horrific, it’s just wrong. People aren’t going to malls or hotels during an epidemic.

At least Sanders was technically right about literacy in Cuba.

Montana’s Democratic governor plans last-minute run for Senate

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock (D) is likely to challenge Sen. Steve Daines (R) this year, reversing his position after a ferocious lobbying campaign from top Democrats who hope he can put another Senate seat in play.

NO SMOCKING GUN!  Mar 4, 2020 • 3:34:36pm

This article argues that the Democrats should consider the risk of nominating Biden because the right-wing will smear him with false accusations of corruption based on a small kernel of truth (Hunter was hired by Burisma because his last name was Biden) which the mainstream media will credulously report like they did in 2016. The problem with this argument is that they would do that to Sanders (he’s a commie!) or Warren (Pocahontas!) as well.

And the Diamond Princess lethality is 6 out of 706 cases, so far, so a little less than 1%.

But again, the lethality of these kind of sicknesses depends upon the quality of healthcare, and the Diamond Princess cases are cared for in Japan, so first world healthcare.

Amusing sidebar on the Trump effort to persuade Republicans to vote for Bernie in the Democratic primary. Matt Lewis, a conservative Republican who is not going to vote for the Democrat in the general, voted in the Democratic primary in Virginia — but not for Bernie, but for Biden, his rationale being that Biden has the best chance of defeating Trump. Matt will not be voting for President but his intent was to try to stop a Sanders-Trump match-up. And he clearly feels that Biden would make a much better President than Trump, though he cannot bring himself to vote for a Democrat.

One thing that drew me to Obama 12 years ago was the diversity of the campaign. At the time I probably favored more populist economic policies but I was and always am a social liberal first. I’m fine with criticizing corporate power, government power, etc but I’m not fond of populism especially as it has become vocally nativist. And Sanders until very recently was fine with nativism. And yes that’s a great one. Shows that it’s Biden with the diverse coalition behind him.

Roberts is just as much of a GOP apparatchik as any of the other wingnut tools on SCOTUS.

The only difference is that he tries to hide it more than the others do, which seems like a quaint and wholly unnecessary pretense from the distant past.

Even so, it is useful, since this means sometimes he will not mindlessly vote the GOP party line in cases where he can’t find (or isn’t even given by counsel) a plausible excuse for voting that way.

Soap may be better, but some of us have sensitive noses and the soap available most places gives me a headache if I absolutely don’t scrub hard enough to remove traces from my skin.

It’s my granddaughter’s 10th birthday and my son has suggested that she loves to read & would love a book set. What books are popular with 10 year olds? She already has the Harry Potter series & I think she is not ready for LOTR (which were my favorites as a kid). My daughters loved “Anne of Green Gables” and “Little House on the Prairie” but that was 30 years ago. What’s popular with kids today?

“Harriet the Spy,” if she hasn’t read it already. One of the most subversive kids’ books out there, even though it’s over a half-century old. Also has the related books “The Long Secret” and “Sport.”

Hmm…
Hunger Games
Percy Jackson
His Dark Materials
OH, better yet, The Vorkosigan Series. Start with Cordelia’s Honor. Er… OTOH, if she’s not ready for LOTR, then there are bits in that book that might well be too adult. Keep in mind for when she is ready because Cordelia is a hell of a role model for a young woman.
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Dune
Discworld

Yep and his opponents if they have their own weaknesses with voter blocs see that, they’re well within their right to drop out and throw their support behind someone who will. Bernie really showed how poor his political instincts were when he decided to declare that the nominee should have a plurality of the vote. Wouldn’t it be something if Biden eventually beat him with a majority? He’s the heads I win, tails you lose candidate.

Try just the Hobbit. It’s a much easier book to get a grasp of than the full LOTR.

Or Le Guin’s “A Wizard of Earthsea”. Glorious.

Plus: The state of Nebraska designated gas lines in the state a common carrier owned by a single regulated corporation, and therefore every gas company in the nation could compete to supply gas to your home.

Minus: This is the time of year that gas companies make their pitches (along with things that have nothing to do with gas, such as “internal electrical wiring insurance”).

Got another call just now from a gas company neither of us ever heard of asking us to switch companies.

I see that every year about now about my electricity since the carrier is standard, but the provider can vary. Had a person from one of them going door-to-door* and I chewed on them about how they were carrying badges**, information, and their mailers, were labeled deceptively to imply they worked for the carrier itself. Started when the guy asked to see my electric bill. (Which is a de facto no-no.)

* - Which is frowned upon in this apartment complex. Very clear No Solicitation signs about, and a few residents actively call the office when they see people like these about.

** - Badge has the abbreviation of the utility carrier on it in large letters, with the actual company info under it in smaller lettering. Kind of thing that sets the BS detector off. And I open what I think are solicitation mailings every so often just to see what the current tricks are. Like using labeling and letter codes that make it look like Federal Tax information. (“Form T-2” and having “2020” in different colors.)

_The Hobbit_ is lower key and a more youth-friendly tale than LOTR.

I’d also recommend some of Pratchett’s Disc World books:
_The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents_

And the Tiffany Aching series that starts with _Wee Free Men_.
