I wonder if Bernie-bots will attempt to re-create the glory days of ‘68 by rioting at the Dem convention. Most of the fake nostalgists were not even born then but I was. In fact I was an eyewitness to the Chicago convention riots (my mother was a delegate). To make a long story short, the experience was a big part of the reason I remained a Republican for the rest of the 20th century.

It was an article of faith among young Republicans (like me at the time) that the chaotic ‘68 Dem convention helped elect Richard Nixon. It was certainly a contrast to the smooth and relatively peaceful GOP convention 3 weeks earlier.

The keyboard player I worked with in the mid- to late-70’s had a Hammond Model A that looks a lot like the one in this video. It was made in the 30’s and we took really good care of it when we moved it from gig to gig. It weighed a frickin’ ton and was kind of stressful to transport (we couldn’t afford roadies), but the sound was worth it. We were so spoiled…

My brother-in-law used to collect and repair Hammond organs. I think he’s down to just one, now that he’s married with kids.

I think I could have bought it when the keyboard player moved out to San Francisco in the 90’s, but by then the innards had been transferred to a road case, and the original wood case was still in pristine condition. There was no way that the organ, cabinet and Leslie cabinet would have fit through my doors, let alone fit in the house. And I wasn’t knowledgeable enough to move the organ guts back to the original case.

I was still so tempted, but the guy who did get it was a Hammond repair guy, so there was probably a happy ending. I wonder if it was your BIL. Is he in MN?

The Disinformation Campaign Being Launched Against Biden
There is no data to support the allegation that he is in cognitive decline.
by Nancy LeTourneau, Washington Monthly

Detailed. Worth reading as we are likely to have him as our nominee, and, with luck?, our president.

We are about to be subjected to a massive disinformation campaign against Joe Biden, and this one will be particularly pernicious. But for those of us who are fact-based, it is important to keep in mind that there is no data to support the allegations that are being made.

I’ll vote for Bernie Sanders if he’s the only choice. But I honestly believe he’ll be a disaster, and very likely will lose to Trump. Even if he’s elected, he’ll be a disaster because he’s made so many pie-in-the-sky promises that he simply won’t be able to deliver on. If you think the GOP was obstructionist with Obama, just wait and see what happens if Bernie is president.

I cannot fucking believe it’s coming down to Biden and Sanders. These are the two I LEAST wanted to see as candidates, goddammit.

Who was #1 Biden from the git go? He was way back in the pack for me. Not what we wanted at all. He maybe what we need to get past Tang the Terrible. Biden gives us our best shot now.

The pressure has been building for a woman VP, likely from the Pres Candidate pack. I’m #1 Harris but a bud made a case for Warren that was strong. Klobuchar, OK.

Stacy Harris and Val Demmings, both strong voices but I don’t know if they’ll make the ticket Corn Pop.

We have to win. The Senate too. Then we can argue prog vs moderate on the other side.

Progressive vs. moderate is a battle to be fought AFTER you vanquish the Republicans.

Make them irrelevant. Make them a non-factor. THEN you can fight progressive vs. moderate.

Otherwise, you’re fighting on two fronts…which is STUPID.

Actually, it’s funny you say that, because any right wingers who have honor, decency, a sense of ethics - they’re the ones that came with us on our journey to the left side. Ergo, anyone still clinging to the right is someone who is intrinsically lacking the traits that would cause us to trust them, and when they “convert”, we have to take it with a huge grain of salt.

This is sooooo much my take as well. The only “mistake” you made was not adding Bloomberg to the list of least wanted.

There’s a hard left site that I still check in with (mostly nostalgia, I guess) where the author was initially a Warren guy, but then started leaning Bernie. Partly because his wife was wearing him down, partly because Bernie was hitting his “Bern it all down” funny bone. This guy occasionally fantasizes about lining up rich people for firing squads, despite claiming to be a pacifist (kind of “I’m not endorsing, just sayin’” stuff).

So anyways, despite being Bernie-curious and being straight up “Biden, Obama, Trump and Pol Pot are politically indistinguishable”, the blogger made the mistake of criticizing, and I mean lightly, our Lord and Savior Sanders.

He basically got swarmed like you did, except it was email and there was a lot of “Y U ANTISEMITIC, BRO?” The sad thing is he seems genuinely shocked by this.

This is such a problem with Sanders’ base. It’s not all of them and some Sanders supporters do condemn it, but goddamn if these fuckers aren’t turning into the Frankenstein monster that the MAGAts turned into.

I really don’t want Biden. He’s too old. He’s tone deaf to criticism (stop touching women, Joe). He’s fucking delusional if he thinks the GOP, aka Cult 45, is ever going to work with him if elected. He’s looking a little senile, to be honest.

Quite frankly, the only thing going for him right now, for me at least, is that Trump is terrified of him.

But goddman if the fucking Bern Outs aren’t doing their best to alienate every fucking potential Democrat voter out there.

OT: we’re still using the Apple “airport express” as our wifi (which we’ve used for over a decade), but it ain’t really up to the tasks of the 21st century. I’ve been looking for easy-to-install-and-quickly-use with Macs and have found lots of love for TP Link AX 1500 and Linksys EA 7500. The TP is not as powerful, but would do the job well where we live, and it’s much cheaper. Any thoughts before I purchase?

Both are very nice for the job. However, if you have older devices that are 2.4GHz or issues with 5GHz coverage the Linksys has double the 2.4GHz throughput. If your ISP is stupid low this is not a factor.

The Linksys doesn’t display sensitivity and outpout power so that’s hard to compare.

As the COVID-19 crisis unfolds one of its unique dynamics is the surge of new medical studies being rushed into print because of the extenuating circumstances of a global pandemic. To be crystal clear, these are studies produced using expert, scientific methodologies and conducted by credentialed epidemiologists and clinicians. But many have relatively small sample sizes and they’re being performed - many in China - under crisis conditions. So they don’t necessarily ‘prove’ things even in the limited way that larger, more organized studies can. But they’re giving us key information.

One ray of light in the whole covid-19 thing is the number of clinical trials for treatments going on. According to my brother who is usually a reliable source of information, Gilead wants to test Remdesivir (an existing antiviral) on people with covid-19 in China. Their problem? Finding enough people to participate because there are already something like 30 drugs undergoing clinical trials. Not as good as a vaccine, and probably nothing that you can just pop as a pill, but treatments none the less.

It worked, at least mostly, it appears, though that type of control does have its blowback, and many Chinese appear to be angry at how they are treated.

I get the impression a lot of his supporters really don’t understand how party politics works. The idea is people in a political party, while they might have different ideas, are working together for a common goal.

So when a candidate sees no path forward, they end their campaign. Sanders seems to be in it more for the grift and attention.

One of the things that Bernie boasts about is how he was against NAFTA and TPP. He says they ripped American jobs away from Americans. I don’t know enough about that to contradict him, but my personal memory is that jobs were already leaving and that is why those diplomatic structures were either passed or considered.

I guess TPP was problematic because it gave too much power to multinational corporations. They seem to have considerable power anyway, and it was meant to offset and ease Chinese dominance in Asia. Few of us understood it—it may have been as bad as Bernie says, but I’m not sure given the care Obama’s teams took on things like this and the Iran deal—but we wasted a chance to create an alliance that would have been able to counter Chinese power. Now America is just another country, one that can’t even manage a response to pandemic.

Killian also reported that 70 of their 180 employees have shown symptoms of coronavirus and are not coming in to work.

He said the facility has received 45 test kits for in-house testing, but needs many more.

When asked why the facility did not ask for help sooner, he said they’ve been asking the local and federal government for “help every five minutes of every day since this became apparent here within the facility”.

The nursing homes around this country are sitting ducks. The lack of blanket testing and rapid action is killing people.

For Immediate Release

Cheyenne VA Working to Keep Veterans and Visitors Safe from Coronavirus
Screening measures in place for all VA medical facilities and VA Clinics

CHEYENNE, Wyo.— VA has a comprehensive plan in place to protect the health of everyone who visits or works at one of our facilities. Using an abundance of caution, all VA medical facilities are implementing screening measures for signs of respiratory illness and exposure to COVID-19.

“This protocol will be in place until further notice,” said Paul Roberts, medical center director. “To be clear, our providers have not encountered anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19. This is just a precautionary measure. Onsite, we will use standardized screening questions at strategic entry points and during initial clinical screening.”

The facility is also asking that anyone with respiratory illness symptions to call[no phone numbers allowed] and press 3, before visiting a VA hospital or clinic. Veterans also have an option of signing into myhealth.va.gov to send a message to their health care team.

“Our facility is fully staffed, supplied and committed to helping keep Veterans safe,” said Roberts. “We have been collaborating with the Department of Health and Human Services, state public health officials and the Centers for Disease Control to ensure Veterans benefit from the latest prevention, testing and treatment protocols.”

“The good news is,” Roberts said, “simple infection control techniques, like handwashing, covering your mouth and nose while sneezing, and not touching your face appear to help control the spread of the virus.”

Employees are being told not to report to work if they show any flu-like symptons, Roberts said.

Cheyenne VA Healthcare System will continue to update Veterans and the public on their response and treatment efforts. Roberts recommends that Veterans try to arrive for your appointment early and please try limit the number of people you bring with you.

For the most up-to-date information, go to cdc.gov.

In other words, nearly all of DC elites have been potentially exposed - from Trump on down. We’re talking about 1000s of attendees in both cases, and 2/3 of Congress was involved in AIPAC in some fashion, and a shit-ton of the right wing GOPers were at CPAC.

Coronavirus forces churches to make changes to holy communion practices

The Anglican church has advised its members that receiving communion by intinction - dipping of the bread into wine - is not acceptable for public worship in the current Covid-19 situation.

The advice has been posted in a “guidelines for when we gather at worship” page on the Anglican Life website.

“A combination of current literature and expert medical advice concludes that sipping from the common cup and sharing a handshake represent minimal risk of transmission of contagion and fall within the parameters of the normal risks of daily living.

Just a guess, but it may have something to do with the fact that Canada Geese are legendarily insane. They’re outlandishly territorial and can be extremely aggressive towards other animals, people, and inanimate objects.

This should happen whether Republicans make an issue out of Hunter Biden or not. They ought to dump everything they have in the oppo file.

Yes, but they want to be in response to Trump’s choice rather than an attack on Hunter be in response to theirs.

Not everyone in health care is intelligent:

Research doctors (MD + PhD) tend to be pretty smart, but there is no reason to believe that the typical health care worker is any different than the rest of the US.

Well, shit that’s everything north of a line from Genoa to Venice.

The world Alpine Skiing Championships were supposed to be held in the Dolomites. I suppose that’s over.

“Blew it” presumes he made an effort to maintain it and just failed.

He purposefully dismantled it, because Obama did it, and anything Obama did is inherently tainted with his Obamaness. Therefore, it must be excised.
