Jon Gomm and His Fabulous Tuning Pegs: “Cocoon”

Music • Views: 15,294

YouTube

He’s probably not the first to do it, but Jon Gomm has turned his guitar’s tuning pegs into an essential part of his compositions.

My first new single in 7 years, Cocoon, is out today on all streaming platforms. From the forthcoming album The Faintest Idea out 16th October. Listen and pre-order here: jongomm.lnk.to

Full guitar tab with all techniques explained, here: jongomm.com

If it’s your job to protect another person, and that overwhelms you with anxiety sometimes, remember that the most important job a cocoon has, is to break open and let the being inside it go free. And if you’re a cocoon for yourself: Remember that the caterpillar has to dissolve itself into mush to become a beautiful, rule-breaking moth. So if you’re a sobbing mess wrapped up in your bed right now: Keep going, you’re gonna turn out amazing.

This song is for my intrepid daughter, Indigo. “Stop worrying dad.” - Indi, aged 3. I will try.

Another new single will be out next month. I’m so happy to be releasing music again. Thank you so so much for watching, sharing and supporting it. With your help I can survive these insane times and still be a musician at the other end.

An awful lot of people don’t understand how the Post Office works. So-called junk mail is one of the most profitable parts of the postal service. Bulk mailers (the correct term) label all their mail in a manner prescribed by the Post Office and pre-sort it before putting it out for delivery by 3 or 5-digit Zip Code (generally three digit for rural areas), saving the Post Office a lot of time and money.

MyPillow guy gets Trump to trade in his advocacy for hydroxychloroquine for a flower oil to cure COVID-19

“Trump has expressed enthusiasm for the Food and Drug Administration to approve an extract from the oleander plant as a dietary supplement to cure COVID-19, despite lack of proof that it works,” said Axios in the Sunday report.

According to the report, Trump got the idea from an Oval Office meeting with the My Pillow guy and Dr. Ben Carson, a brain surgeon who runs the Department of Housing and Urban Development. MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell owns a financial stake in the country using the flower oil.

AND ARE WE SURPRISED THAT…

During the meeting, Trump “basically said: …’The FDA should be approving it,’” Lindell told Axios.

When Trump said, he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and not lose any support, he was serious. He is able to kill 170,000 Americans and counting without upsetting his voters because the deaths are disproportionately among people of color, and if there’s anyone they don’t care about, it’s people of color. It really hit home to me during our conversation with our Dallas area brother, when he was said the pandemic really hasn’t affected them — that cases are primarily in the inner city. It is the traditional conservative mindset: they generally don’t care about an issue unless it affects them personally.

If Biden didn’t do it, wingnuts would be outraged at his lack of support for the troops.

This was another faux-patriotic display started by Ronald Reagan.

The US Army regulation on returning salutes reads:

“The President of the United States, as the commander in chief, will be saluted by Army personnel in uniform.

“Civilian personnel, to include civilian guards, are not required to render the hand salute to military personnel or other civilian personnel.

“Salutes are not required to be rendered or returned when the senior or subordinate, or both are in civilian attire.”

Oleandrin is a toxic cardiac glycoside found in oleander (Nerium oleander L.). Along with conessine it is primarily responsible for the toxicity of the sap of oleander. Oleandrin has been used for many years in China and Russia for its properties as a cardiac glycoside, for both suicidal and therapeutic purposes as in treatment of cardiac insufficiency.

re: #235 Quoth the raven, Covfefe.

I was growling this morning because our church band was complaining that we need to just let the pandemic play out, open everything wide open, we all catch the disease and earn the fabled herd immunity. The thing these people don’t think about - well, besides the fact that that would lead to more than 70 million people dead worldwide based on current mortality rates - is that this isn’t the goddamn flu. You don’t just get sick, recover, and go on with your life. There are a number of long-term effects that are poorly understood that could leave you moderately or severely disabled for the rest of your (probably shortened) life. But, you know, COVID-19 is no big deal, because they don’t think they’re in an at-risk group.

If that sort of thinking continues in your church, you might want to consider a different church. These don’t sound like the sort of people who would take necessary precautions outside of church.

The church in my town is still voluntarily closed (as are most in the state if they don’t start with Roman Catholic or have Baptist somewhere in them). The state governor is trying to bully churches to open, but they’d prefer not to sicken their parishioners or the towns they are in.

Did a troop of Boy Scouts die after roasting hot dogs on oleander branches?

Short version: Actual experiments showed that oleandrin content from cooking with oleander sticks was orders of magnitude below the level that would be dangerous to humans. Eating the flowers and leaves will definitely kill you, though, and there are many documented cases.

My grandpa came home from work one day, said he didn’t feel well and was going to lie down. He never got up. He was 29 years old.

I’ve heard similar stories from my dad, who’d heard them from his father who was still living in Italy at the time of the Spanish Flu pandemic (he left for America in late 1920, arriving there before the 1921 Immigration Act took effect). People would get up, maybe feeling like they were coming down with something around lunchtime, and they’d be dead before the Sun went down.

Oleander Poisoning-Snopes.com

Short version: Actual experiments showed that oleandrin content from cooking with oleander sticks was orders of magnitude below the level that would be dangerous to humans. Eating the flowers and leaves will definitely kill you, though, and there are many documented cases.

Died from drinking oleander tea will be on the menu in 2 weeks time. Y’all watch and see.

Only two towns in PPHD have not had at least one case (mine and Gurley in Cheyenne County).

Deaths remain at 6.
Hospitalisations are at 3 (+2).

Melania undoubtedly is getting very tired of the constant “your husband is a joke and a monster” over and over from the artistic and academic elite she so desperately wants to be a part of.

She of course has none of the attributes or personal history necessary to be actually part of this particular subculture in the world- a subculture often borne out of sacrifice, hard academic and internship work, reliance on exercised talent and intelligence over pure personal physical looks and not looking for the most vulgar pathway to success.

My wife is reading Junior Skeptic (part of Skeptic Magazine). They have an interesting series of articles (PDF, ten pages):

#76: Plagued by Nonsense: How Mistakes, Fakes, and Missing Facts Make Epidemics Worse

It talks about plagues ancient and modern, and how as the title says, bad or misinformation makes them worse.

The magazine is intended for teenagers, but this issue is very informative for those who are unaware of the long history of bad information during pandemics.

So I have a Trumper friend. I’ve known him more than 30 years. He’s always been conservative, and more than kind of bullheaded when it comes to politics, but he’s always been a decent guy. But he’s become fanatical in the past couple of months with the rise of Black Lives Matter in the wake of George Floyd’s murder. We’d needle each other about what was happening in the news, but now he’s gotten downright ugly. His Instagram is almost entirely right wing memes, many of which are flat out racist - one is about Cannon Hinnant, the five year old who was shot, and the caption on it says “This is BLM.”

I dread hearing from him because he’s so incredibly toxic. I’ve essentially muted him on Insta. It makes me sad.

Commercial traffic is strictly forbidden on Mt. Evans Road. Besides, the road is closed to all vehicles this summer due to COVID-19. It was nice to be able to ride in the middle of the road all the way up and down.

4.4% average grade sounds about right. Though there were definitely places where it was 10%.

At a 4.4% average grade, and assuming it’s not at all a uniform climb like an interstate, I can see why. The grade probably exceeds 6% in places, which is a great workout for you, and some scary shit for a guy with a loaded trailer and a 6-71.

We normally drop into the low 60°s at night at this time of year. Lets the house cool off before the next round. Highs should be mid to upper 80°s. And back in the day, “hot spells” would last 3 days, 4 at the most. Now it’s often 5, and in this case, a full week of this nonsense.

I saw something briefly about this, but Axios reports more deeply on the possibility that Trump may armtwist the FDA to allow “oleandrin,” an untested substance, to be sold as a treatment for COVID-19 or, worse yet, as a “dietary supplement.”

To the alarm of some government health officials, President Trump has expressed enthusiasm for the Food and Drug Administration to permit an extract from the oleander plant to be marketed as a dietary supplement or, alternatively, approved as a drug to cure COVID-19, despite lack of proof that it works.

Driving the news: The experimental botanical extract, oleandrin, was promoted to Trump during an Oval Office meeting in July. It’s embraced by Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and MyPillow founder and CEO Mike Lindell, a big Trump backer, who recently took a financial stake in the company that develops the product.

The article is worth a read. And if it gets approved as a dietary supplement, there are NO FUCKING REGULATIONS WHATSOFUCKINGEVER. It’s the perfect scam: Trump buddies invested in it, expensive, potentially deadly and with the Trump seal of approval.

For the first few days, chicks live off their yolk sacs. They do not need food or water. That is why it’s safe to mail chicks. The Post Office moves chicks, ducklings, bees, and other critters they allow to mail quickly through the system.

If chicks are kept by the Post Office long enough to kill them, insulin is also being kept long enough to destroy it.

I was thinking more in terms of being tossed about and feeling distress. A box moving through the postal system is not a chick’s natural habitat. It may be fine for them and it’s not something I’d be concerned about with, say, bees.
I’d imagine their living conditions when they get where they’re going is more important and if you have a dozen chickens in your yard they are a lot happier than laying hens in battery cages.
