Biden just caught himself stuttering speaking in Philly, something he has done his entire life. Personally, I think it humanizes Biden. Trump has been playing a doctored clip of Biden stuttering at his campaign cross burnings, and the red hats just eat that shit up. I hate Trump and his supporters with the power of a thousand suns, and I hope Biden kicks that motherfucker’s fat ass tomorrow.

I have to ask, why blue Ohio but red Pennsylvania? Aren’t those two a lot alike, except Pennsylvania has more high democrat urban areas thus making it hard to imagine a situation where Biden wins the former but looses the latter?

I did phonebanking during the last 3 weekends. Did calls in Pennsylvania and lots of the callers were shifting to Trump over fracking and the Philadelphia incidents.
Ohio callers are REALLY PISSED OFF at the multiple GOP scandals going on in the state.

That would be an Extinction Level Event! And one that would cause GOP House and Senate members to say, “Trump? Not sure that I knew him. He may have been a coffee boy at one point.”

I think Biden is quite honestly for me the most relatable I’ve felt with a presidential candidate. I have a stutter that comes out when I’m nervous or agitated. I also share his love and wonder of history. I’ve been noticing that him and Kamala have stressed that we need to talk about mental health as much our physical health during hte pandemic. Clyburn had it right with the phrase that I’ll always remember and I think why Biden will be President elect. “Joe knows us and we know Joe.” I’ve never met the man but he’s a decent guy who has understands not only the institutions of government but the psychology of the men and women who work in our governments. There’s no superiority complex to the guy.

I get you’ve grown cynical about Pennsylvania but there’s no way that Ohio flips to Biden after Trump won it by nearly 10% last time and Pa doesn’t which was much closer. Other than that, I like your map though. Chin up on Pa. Biden’s gonna take it home.

I think Utah is pretty pissed about what Mike Lee said. That will be interesting to watch.
And his “clarification” sucked.
I’m pretty sure the 335 map on 270towin is the base result.
I want to say that GA and TX could flip. I rate IA and OH a bit less likely than that. Montana is a longer shot, but some of the numbers I’ve seen about early voting there make me think it could happen.
The thing is, I think that the polls are either: Basically right, with Trump maybe picking up 1-2 points from undecideds - who are actually idiots and thus likely Trump voters. Alternatively this could be a massive blowout because the polling companies are fighting the last war and have modeled everything completely wrong. I think 416 can happen.
But I’m just sick with tension and worry tonight.
Great closing ad by Biden on Monday Night Football! And perfectly timed to catch all time zones.

The very large turnout makes me optimistic about that possibility. Trump could well under-perform the polls because the pollsters have not accurately analyzed the nature and significance of that extra turnout. We shall see.

No way Biden picks up Mississippi. Texas and Georgia are both a long shot because of the states’ GOP shenanigans (they have voter disenfranchisement down to an art, and still have a ton of items in their bag of tricks), and Ohio and Pennsylvania can be swapped because Biden does still have home-field advantage there. Florida will flip blue, but just barely.

Lonesome Rhodes: Listen, I’m not through yet. You know what’s gonna to happen to me?
Mel Miller: Suppose I tell you exactly what’s gonna happen to you. You’re gonna be back in television. Only it won’t be quite the same as it was before. There’ll be a reasonable cooling-off period and then somebody will say: “Why don’t we try him again in a inexpensive format. People’s memories aren’t too long.”
And you know, in a way, he’ll be right. Some of the people will forget, and some of them won’t. Oh, you’ll have a show. Maybe not the best hour or, you know, top 10. Maybe not even in the top 35. But you’ll have a show. It just won’t be quite the same as it was before. Then a couple of new fellas will come along. And pretty soon, a lot of your fans will be flocking around them.
And then one day, somebody’ll ask: “Whatever happened to, a, whatshisname? You know, the one who was so big. The number-one fella a couple of years ago. He was famous. How can we forget a name like that? Oh by the way, have you seen, a, Barry Mills? I think he’s the greatest thing since Will Rogers.”

One thing to keep in mind about North Carolina: The State Board of Elections and all of the county Boards are controlled by Democrats.
From my local experience, the Democrats on the county board have in the past bent over backwards to count every vote, regardless of party. They want every voter to be able to participate and have that vote be tabulated.
A far cry from 4 years ago when - under Republican control - the board chairman called the cops on a church bus of African-American voters AND the city mayor’s wife. As the newspaper editorialized, “What was her crime? Hugging people too hard?”
The only rat-fornicating would be the Republican-controlled General Assembly voting to send a FFVCS slate of electors to gum up the works.

FiveThirtyEight says MS breaking for Biden is only slightly less likely than Trump winning, 9% vs. 10%.

MS is hard because the white vote is so Republican. I do think the South is gradually growing more competitive though. Harrison being competitive, Abrams/Gilllum nearly winning for Governor. The base and leadership of the party in the South is African American. Lots of great up coming leaders down there.
🚨BREAKING: Texas Republicans appeal Harris County voting case to 5th Circuit. BUT—They are only seeking to block it for tomorrow (E-Day) no mention of past voting during early vote period.https://t.co/ugntk4x2F9

They must be only trying to block tomorrow because they know they’d get tossed out of court if they tried to get 127K votes thrown out.

Yes we are.
The counties that I serve are flatling or losing population (and, like all of us, growing older). The urban areas are where the fastest growth is … and where our bright young people remain after going to college. Even our largest city in the region is beginning to trend toward the Democrats. I was amazed the other day to see all of the Biden signs in the higher-rent districts of Hickory. It’s the reason why the 5th and 10th Congressional districts were split up in order to dilute the Democratic vote.

…but how could you do better on a piece of paper? Maybe with shading, like altitude maps…
In geology, a slice is usually given along with a plan map. Sometimes more than one.
In regards to Star Trek, though, that fictional universe is set in our galaxy. As such, incorporating our knowledge of our galaxy would be a rather straight forward thing.
And here’s one thing often missed: ST, until the very recent version, has pretty much limited the Federation to only about a thousand lightyears from Earth. (Voyager was set far way, but its travels are explicitly outside of the Federation.)
The depth of the main plane of our galaxy is about a 1000 light years… which means that the Federation may be more likely to be oriented vertically (with respect to the galactic plane) then along a spiral arm.
And strangely, it is the often maligned ST:Enterprise who got one thing right - our solar system is close to an expanse of low stellar density in the galaxy.
We are not located in a major spiral arm, but on an branch of stars off of a major arm. So in one direction (parallel to the galactic plane) a space ship traveling will encounter a very low density region of space.
Anyway, TV “scifi” shows are rarely concerned with accurately portraying reality. Most are filled with more religion than science (including Star Trek.)

Dick Morris is always wrong. Good.
As for the Star Trek map… the thing to realize is that it’s trying to deal with fifty years of garbled continuity. The TNG technical manual aside, most of it was just writers writing whatever they wanted and not caring about practicalities of space. And frankly, simplifying the map allows for better storytelling. A good story is never quite as fraught as reality.
re: #105 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus
I always loved the map for the RPG 2300AD as it was done in a 3D projection onto paper. However for all the effort they put into the map and it was as accurate as possible when printed in 1986 it was rapidly outpaced by new discoveries. The really unfortunate part of that is that several key plot points depended on the map so to use an accurate map now would totally change the completion of the game.
The original highly abstract 2D maps used in Traveller don’t have that problem.
Pick your poison and enjoy!

In Judge Hanen’s no standing ruling he specifically mentioned election day drive up voting.
Texas law requires structures during early voting, but buildings on election day.
He stated that the drive up tents met the standard during early voting, but that he would not vote drive up on election day, and stated others shouldn’t.
So, he basically told Harris County, “Don’t do that”
Hopefully they were listening
Earlier today not one but two hurricane observing aircraft had problems (note: perhaps Trump’s malfeasance towards effective governance is at work here?) But one aircraft did make it to Eta tonight and sure enough Eta is a strong cat4.

Eta is a devastatingly strong hurricane, and it is slow moving. Nicaragua and Honduras are going to see a lot of problems.

Lizards: I’m stressed, pissed, happy, sad, worried, hopeful.
Even after all this time I can’t understand how fellow Americans support the obvious criminal running our country. I’m throwing my hat in the ring of opinions to say Biden will crush Trump so roundly all his and Barr’s bullshit will fall as short as Rudy’s last minute Hunter laptop scams. I can dream can’t I?
Big thanks to the LGF community for a guide of sanity through the last 4 years of inanity. I have lingered for many years and rarely post but I read daily and this group is my rock in a lot of ways. Thank you Charles for hosting this forum, and thanks to all the Lizards who participate. +1 for democracy prevailing.
Trump, again, today was repeating a new line about Biden: That he’s not a nice person.
Think about that. Donald Trump accusing some other human being of not being nice.

As a poli/sci grad, it will always disturb me - and from a harrowing academic perspective alarm me - how a clearly mentally ill individual won the presidency, let alone was allowed by a major party to be the nominee.
In its mind, it didn’t win just 46.1 percent of the popular vote, it won 80 percent. It always catered to “The Base,” and it refused to consider otherwise.
A sane person would have recognized the electorate and moderated. Govern like Ike. Play golf, make deals with Democrats and Republicans, and understand your role as the leader of ALL Americans.
Just listen to the scientists when an pandemic struck and cruise to re-election with 55 percent of the popular vote.
BTW, if Biden cracks 53 percent of the popular vote, it will be the highest percentage for a Democrat since Johnson got 61.05. Obama had 52.93 in 2008.

Charlie Cook of the Cook Political Report thinks Biden could have a big night. There’s a clip of him being interviewed by Stephanie Ruhle and saying it could even be a 1980 style landslide. I pray he’s right.
Joe Biden’s path to 270 electoral votes seems pretty straightforward: Hold all 20 states (plus the District of Columbia) that Hillary Clinton carried four years ago, which total 232 electoral votes, just 38 short of the majority threshold of 270. Then win each of the three states that Clinton lost by eight-tenths of a point or less: Michigan (0.2 percentage points) Pennsylvania (0.7), and Wisconsin (0.8). That gives him 278 electoral votes, eight more than needed. Biden will likely also carry two congressional districts that eluded Clinton in 2016, Nebraska’s 2nd District and Maine’s 2nd, giving him 280 electoral votes. That would represent a “skinny” Biden win.
A big Biden win would bring in Arizona, Florida, and North Carolina, and might also include one or two states from the next tier, mostly likely Georgia or Iowa, although don’t count out Ohio or Texas. Generally speaking, Trump is underperforming his 2016 pace by 3 to 8 points, depending upon the state or district.
The RealClearPolitics average of national polls pegs Biden’s lead at 7.4 points, 51.1 to 43.7 percent. But that’s a less discriminating measure, including as it does some mediocre surveys, some that seemed congenitally slanted toward one side or the other, and some that would be better utilized lining hamster cages. The FiveThirtyEight modeled average of national polls, which is more selective than the RCP average but still includes some surveys that I consider rather sketchy, puts the Biden lead at 8.8 points, 52 to 43.2 percent.
I believe his actual lead is more like 9 or 10 points, based on the higher-quality, live-telephone-interview national polls conducted since the first debate, as well as the gold standard of online polling, the Pew Research Center’s mammoth poll of 11,929 voters released two weeks ago.
Any way you slice it, these are pretty good leads, considerably higher than the 3.2-point national margin that Hillary Clinton had over Trump in the RCP average on Oct. 29, 2016. When all the votes were counted, the margin ended up being 2.1 percent.
