So I go on Twitter and see that Sullivan is trending… I go to check it out, and this is all I need to know:

Derek Chauvin sure has some dipshit lawyers. I wonder if that could be the basis for a appeal? “Your Honor, I request a new trial on the grounds that my original counsel were dipshits.”

I don’t know. From the sounds of it, he made the best of a bad situation, and let’s face it - all he needs is one juror who buys his interpretation of the situation. I am not confident in a jury of my peers convicting someone whom even my wingnut best friend admitted is a total asshole who deserves to have the book thrown at him.

So Sullivan and cohorts are really gearing up for a battle (against …???)

Bari Weiss, McWhorter, etc. who all cringe at the proposal that systemic racism exists even to this day are really, as in really really, bothered.

I don’t know where all of this is headed. I gather that there is a religious connection. You will find words like “spirit” and “soul” intertwined in these protestations.

The problem I have is knowing how to even confront those who are really just riding the tails of the fundamentalist white nationalists, but are wearing garbs of “liberalism”.

I do think this is an outcome of our worldview collapse problem.

There is no easy way around this. Since so many Americans are seeking self-identities and new affiliations, badness will lurk around every corner.

It also seems to me that some self-declared liberals are crying about “marxism”, so much that I can confuse them with the JBS.

Marxism - where’s the marxism? Marxism is dead. It’s not been a dominant thought in major societies/nations for some time.

Instead, what I think those crying about “marxism!!” really mean is “atheism”, or, at least “anti-religionism”.

The disestablishing of theism from the central framework of society is bothering a lot of people these days, because now it’s become inescapable.

McWhorter is a good example of someone who just can’t come to grips with the idea that his form of liberalism itself is rife with problems, problems that have been bred into American society (and thus McWhorter’s background) by our religiosity.

There is still a deep connection between “the state” and “the church” in American society. This is because the dominant (i.e. that which won) cultural background of the US is from old Christian Europe, where the king is seen as anointed by God to lead.

See the Je$u$ marks and Trump for the current iteration of this.

Those who deny systemic racism are not confronting these systemic religious beliefs, which are then tied into nations, and then into the differences between people, even “race” as a social construct.

We’ve seen way too many trials that have successfully become trials on the victims’ humanity rather than the defendants’ culpability. And the judge going out of his way to shit on Rep. Waters feels way too much like a bellwether to me.

His lawyers can be the biggest dipshits ever - it doesn’t matter. As long as they can pick one Trumper on the jury victory is assured.

Unfortunately, the same issue will come up in the trials of the MAGA terrorists from Jan 6. Those cases will all depend critically on jury selection.

Want to shut down a police force. Overwhelm them with numbers. They can’t jail everyone.

And this idiocy applies just as much to right wing lunatics protesting in street getting run over by the mythical antifa as it does BLM getting run over by right wing domestic terrorists (as they’ve done in several notable incidents in just the past four years).

The hard-core Nazi fraction of the US right have already thought of this problem and have a ‘solution’.

As always, the rest of the US right was just along for the ride, if this ends up happening.

Yeah, but as we’ve seen during the protests last year…the people enforcing the rules don’t enforce them equally.

That too goes to the unconstitutional nature of these laws - and they should be thrown out on violation of the 1A and the state constitution protections for free assembly.

Not really creative, since it has been done before — the Nazi solution to ‘you can’t jail them all’ is ‘kill them all’.
