Speaking of vax craziness:

Found out this morning the head press guy at our printer in IA just quit. If I’m reading between the lines correctly, his wife just finished a two week ICU stint thanks to COVID, and she may have signed up for a long haul pass. They also have a special needs kid in a wheelchair.

I’m guessing between caring for her and the kid, he literally can’t hold a full time job for the time being.

I have no idea if they were anti-vaxxers or not. If there were? The idea that they refused the vax and risked this outcome, despite caring for a special needs kid, makes me want to both punch a wall and cry.

Seeing as it’s IA, I’m guessing they were.

These people are literally killing themselves and destroying their families because..

…I just don’t know anymore. They’re doing it because Trump told them to? Fox News? They think American freedom includes ignoring reality because that’s God’s will?

I keep thinking we’re going to have a situation in the US where we have COVID refugees; people fleeing states who wrecked their health care systems by refusing vaccinations.

Ugh…

Josh Duggar leaves court with pregnant wife after failed attempt to get child porn charges dropped

Josh Duggar was all smiles as he exited an Arkansas courtroom, his pregnant wife by his side, despite his latest failed attempt to have child pornography charges dismissed. The “19 Kids and Counting” star is accused of downloading child pornography files onto a computer at his now-closed car dealership over the course of three days in May 2019. He was arrested in April on charges of receiving and possessing child sex abuse material and pleaded not guilty to both counts the following month. Prosecutors have said he had more than 200 images on his computer.

There was an infuriating segment on Maddow last night about the negligible charges being filed against the Jan. 6 rioters by prosecutors.

Why, it’s almost as if the DA offices across the country were stocked with right-wing operatives determined to under-charge right-wing terrorists to signal to upcoming coup attempts that there would be no consequences for their actions.

OK, the details from the story about how the dimwit Instagram “Influencer” shit away $7MM+ trying to evacuate refugees from Afghanistan are LIT:

“In March 2018, a state judge in Los Angeles ordered Steele and his wife, Lilia Stepanova Steele, a Soviet-born contortionist who has appeared on “America’s Got Talent,” to pay $7.2 million to a former business partner who had sued them. The judge ruled against Steele and his wife on multiple counts, finding that Steele fraudulently induced the partner to invest by falsely promising him a share of future profits. Steele and his wife declared bankruptcy six months later.”

This is what Kristi Noem cheats on her husband with.

A Donald Trump donor is accusing Corey Lewandowski, one of the former president’s longtime top aides, of making unwanted sexual advances toward her at a Las Vegas charity event over the weekend.

Trashelle Odom, the wife of Idaho construction executive John Odom, alleges that Lewandowski repeatedly touched her, including on her leg and buttocks, and spoke to her in sexually graphic terms. Odom said that Lewandowski “stalked” her throughout the evening.

PBS this week had a biography of William Randolph Hearst. Fascinating.

Among the things I never knew about him:

1) He didn’t earn very much of his wealth at all. He was the only child of a miner who struck it rich in 1849.

2) He and his newspapers are substantially responsible for the elections of both Presidents Roosevelt. In 1931, he started running editorials demanding large public works to provide employment; this may be where FDR’s team got the idea for the WPA.

3) His mother was an amazing philanthropist. She paid for, among other things, UC Berkeley. And all the elementary schools, and a teacher training academy, in San Francisco. She founded the PTA. She funded archaeological expeditions and museums. She died in the Flu Pandemic.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), a moderate and co-chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus who’s been at odds with progressives for their commitment to passing both infrastructure bills in tandem, offered a rosy outlook on tomorrow’s vote on the bipartisan bill — which, he thinks, will definitely happen.

“We’ll be drinking a nice glass of champagne over here,” Gottheimer said, according to Politico.

Gottheimer reportedly also refused to concede that the bipartisan infrastructure bill could be delayed tomorrow, despite progressives’ refusal to back down on tanking the legislation if it gets a vote before the reconciliation package.

A judge in New York has declined to dismiss Eddy Grant’s copyright infringement lawsuit against Donald Trump over the use of the former’s track ‘Electric Avenue’ in one of the latter’s campaign videos last year. Team Trump claimed that their use of the song was ‘transformative’ and therefore covered by the ‘fair use’ principle in US copyright law, but judge John G Koeltl has concluded that the former President is yet to demonstrate that his use of Grant’s track was, in fact, fair use.

Josh is saying that Manchin can be negotiated with. He’ll demand something (a’haircut’, ie some sort of reduction)and then will support the reconciliation bill.

He is saying that Sinema is appears to be acting irrationally and may not be reachable by the Democrats. She may trash the entire thing simply because… no good reason and with no particular benefit to her.

I had to take one of our cats to urgent care last November, and they weren’t even letting people in for euthanasia as far as I could tell.

There was a family in a car a couple spots from us who’s dog apparently wasn’t responding to the treatment or surgery and wasn’t going to make it and it sounded like they weren’t going to be able to go in and say goodbye. That would be horrific and soul crushing for me.

Gottheimer Thinks Champagne Toasts Will Be In Store After Tomorrow’s Vote On Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill

Gottheimer reportedly also refused to concede that the bipartisan infrastructure bill could be delayed tomorrow, despite progressives’ refusal to back down on tanking the legislation if it gets a vote before the reconciliation package.

uh, DINO you won’t be cracking that bottle of Cristal open…

talkingpointsmemo.com

And this is what I was talking about yesterday. Progressives agreed to split the bills rather than blocking the bill because some of the spending they wanted wasn’t in a big one. They were guaranteed to have a vote on it. Now, moderates and Republicans are forcing the vote to be on just one bill, and it will be the progressives that will either get screwed or blamed for nothing passing.

When I lost two cats last summer you did not get to go into the urgent care clinic. They picked up the animals at the front door and you waited out in your car for a phone call.

The last two times Floof Cat went to the vet for a check-up or treatment it was also dropping them off at the door.

Belafon  Sep 29, 2021 • 1:23:57pm

From Betty Cracker:

Like I said, maybe it’ll work out in the end. I can easily envision Dems reaching some sort of painful accommodation that forces removal of most reconciliation provisions that offend No Labels donors. If that leaves a package that fucks Americans out of the desperately needed social spending Biden and the Democrats campaigned on (including the obstructionists!) but still seriously addresses the existential threat of climate change, the overwhelming majority of Democrats who support the Biden agenda, i.e., all but a dozen or so show ponies, would probably pass that bill, and we’d end up with the usual shit sandwich that everyone is used to choking down.

But it looks like there’s a serious possibility that Sinemanchin will refuse to budge until the infrastructure bill passes. If Sinema and/or Manchin do insist on passage of the infrastructure bill without committing to passing a broadly acceptable reconciliation bill too, Democrats should tank the goddamn bipartisan bill — preferably with Biden’s explicit blessing. The obstructionists can’t be trusted since they already broke the two-track agreement, so they shouldn’t get to play Lucy the football holder.

I’m usually a “half a loaf is better than none” person, but this behavior from the obstructionists is intolerable and cannot be allowed to succeed. Obviously, it will be terrible if the whole thing blows up and nothing passes. In that scenario, 100% of the Beltway press and many loosely affiliated voters will conclude that Democrats can’t govern. But IMO, caving in to the obstructionists’ demands would be worse for the party than acquiescing for what is essentially a glorified “bipartisan” highway bill because it would brand us as the party of Manchin and Sinema.

Better to tank the bill and run as the anti-fascist, anti-corruption party that needs more seats so it can govern effectively than to make those two corrupt and vain shit-stains the face of the party. The first look is weak, and that’s not good, but at least there’s a possibility for strengthening. The second confirms regular people’s worst fears about politics and will make the ubiquitous “both sides” lies ring true.

Enough of this bullshit already. Pass both, or pass none.

I can’t help but admire and loathe actors who convincingly portray psychopathy. Admiration for the acting job, loathing for letting themselves turn into monsters so easily. Michael Rooker said it best when he was interviewed about “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.” He said “You DO NOT want to take that shit home with you.”

It’s a masterpiece. One of the finest pieces of Hollywood cinema to be made in the last 40 years, I’d say. Everything about it, the script, the acting, the set pieces, the cinematography, the direction, it’s damn near perfect. “Titanic” robbed it of Best Picture.

I saw a brief note from @Popehat, I think, that prosecutors are used to clearing dockets by encouraging plea deals and dropping lesser charges, but that that may not be as appropriate in these cases. Their job shouldn’t be to clear the docket here, but to throw the book at them.

New leak of Epik data exposes company’s entire server
Anonymous is calling the second leak ‘the /b/ sides.’
dailydot.com

“…Epik CEO Rob Monster, who did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Dot, would go on to hold a more than four hour long live video conference online to address the initial hack. The meeting would see Monster break out into prayer numerous times, make attempts to vanquish demons, and warn viewers that their hard drives could burst into flames due to “curses” placed on the hacked data.
………….
The second leak of Epik data comes just days after the Oath Keepers militia, a group who began using Epik’s services in January, was allegedly hacked as well. The paramilitary group’s emails, internal chats and data on members and donors, including those who work for the U.S. government and military, would be exposed as a result. “

This may have baring TFG’s suit against Mary Trump

Trump loses bid to enforce Omarosa Manigault Newman’s NDA

“… The arbitrator, Andrew Brown, wrote in a decision dated on Friday and handed down on Monday that the definition of what kind of comment was protected by the NDA was so vague that it was rendered meaningless.

He also reportedly said statements from Manigault Newman were hardly included in privileged information.

The decision orders Manigault Newman to receive legal fees from the Trump campaign.

“The statements do not disclose hard data such as internal polling results or donor financial information,” Brown wrote

“Rather, they are for the most part simply expressions of unflattering opinions, which are deemed ‘confidential information’ based solely upon the designation of Mr. Trump. This is exactly the kind of indefiniteness which New York courts do not allow to form the terms of a binding contract,” he added. …”

re: #284 William Lewis

The universe is laughing at me again.

Seems my lady in Memphis got an ad in the mail “reminding” her to sign up for the wedding registry at their store… ;)

LOL. I’m actually laughing.

Now, if y’all do wind up getting married later on, you’re gonna have to tell this story at your wedding… ;)

Allegations made and acted upon within 24 hours, instead of a flat denial and promises to withhold judgment until “all the facts come out”?

Sounds like somebody was looking for an excuse to get rid of him.

Jared Benjamin Lafer, who last September drove his SUV through a tiny assemblage of Black Lives Matter protesters in Johnson City, Tennessee, and then sped away — leaving behind a man with a concussion, brain bleed, and two broken legs — will face no charges.

On Monday, a Tennessee grand jury returned a “no true” bill — a declaration by jurors that there was not enough evidence to indict the 27-year-old even after a judge had reduced the charges against him from aggravated assault, a Class C felony, to reckless aggravated assault, a Class D felony. Among the materials that apparently left the grand jurors unmoved was cellphone video documenting Lafer rolling over the protester with his truck, narrowly missing the protester’s dog, and almost striking a second person who jumped out of the car’s unswerving path before it accelerated away from the scene.

The Grey Lady accurately attributing not only the reason we’re about to careen over a cliff, but also naming the people responsible rather than just saying “Congress”?

Guess the reality of what’s about to happen finally dawned upon them.

Too little, too late. The media are complicit in the impending disaster. I wish we could saddle them with the bill.

MT. DORA, Fla (WKRC) - An incredible video, that you will not be surprised to hear was filmed in Florida, is making the rounds on social media.

In short summary, it features a very brave individual successfully wrangling a visibly unhappy, alligator by creative use of a garbage bin.

That brave individual is none other than Abdul Gene Malik, a United States Army veteran.

Rachel Maddow is talking right now about an attempted firebombing of the Travis County TX Democratic Party headquarters. The FBI is treating it is a.”credible threat.”

It’s good, obviously, that they are acting quickly. But the FBI, and local authorities did nothing when Trump supporters tried to run a Biden campaign bus off I-35 last year. Volunteers on the bus repeatedly called 911, but no police showed up!
