A “well, actually” defending Donald Trump which is wrong.

Well, actually it is in fact former President Trump.

No title was used when George Washington was sworn in, the proclamation at the conclusion of the oath of office being “Long live George Washington, President of the United States.”

A committee was set up under President Washington to determine the correct address for the President by the US House.

There was concern the Office of the President did not get sufficient deference. Vice-President John Adams suggested at first “Highness” and “Protector of Their United States’s Liberties.”

Others favoured “Elected Highness” or the lesser “Excellency” (which was used at the time by the Governor of Massachusetts and the President of Pennsylvania). Adams then thought “Highness” was insufficient and recommended “Majesty” for the President.

James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson all thought John Adams and his supporters were being foolish.

In the end, President Washington accepted the recommendation of James Madison and the US House that the title of address be “Mr. President.”

Throughout history, “President” has been reserved for the current officeholder, and is considered improper for a former officeholder to use the title reserved by the US House and President Washington for the current President.

Years ago, Evil Santa gifted my older daughter a planter with a reclining cat body but it had a human baby face.

Similar to this:

Human baby faces on animal bodies.

When my daughter opened it, she shrieked then kept repeating “this is not acceptable”.

She hid it in a closet until the next year’s white elephant gift exchange at work.

Got quite a reaction. For years after, that planter reappeared at the gift exchange and became part of that companies tradition.

Tell me about it. Southern Idaho, masked and vaxed to the max. I’ve had it with these covidiots. If they want to off themselves and their families, so be it. The only people I feel sorry for anymore is those who can’t take the vax and catch this thing.

I have returned to the habit of doing my shopping at certain times of the day as those stores I go to are most likely to be least occupied during that time frame. Even then I go in masked.
