If you want to know where New York City’s Christmas Tree (let alone the nation’s) is, just walk about 2 blocks over from Fox News… to Rockefeller Center. That’s a fucking Christmas Tree. It’s huge. It’s beautiful. It’s a wonder to see in person.

Fox couldn’t bother to spring for a real tree, or even an artificial one that resembles a real one. They put together a metal contraption that got wrapped in garlands and lights and call it a tree.

It barely gets a notice by anyone, so when it went up in flames, Fox got the Hannukah miracle of miracles - they can milk this bulkshit for 8 days.

I’m spoiled here in northern NJ. I have a great kosher bakery that does the most amazing challahs. Zayde’s. Moist and delicious, and they do various kinds of challah rolls too.

I’ve tried to do my own challah, but it just doesn’t stack up to that.

Charles:

If you look inside the microwave, there will be a mica panel which is where the microwaves from the magnetron enter the oven.

It will be on the top or side with the controls. Probably about 3 inches square.

If it gets dirty, the microwave will behave like you describe. Clean it carefully. It should also be removable to clean it if needed.

Should fix your problem.

I just went from a $5 toaster to a $100 toaster, to get slots long enough for the only bread Mr. w will eat.

The $5 toaster is down in the lobby on the free office chair with the free fake tree. It has become free.

Unfortunately it was pretty clean - this seems to be a simple issue of something wearing out. There’s a big burn mark on that panel, which is definitely not good.

Agreed. Might be worth your while to remove the mica panel and clean both sides. Might give it a little more life.

The good news is newer microwaves are more powerful and relatively inexpensive.

The bad news is that you’ll have to spend money. 😕

“…What is Project 23?

In 2006, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) began work on a new underground parking garage. During the course of construction, 16 new fossil deposits were discovered, including an almost-complete skeleton of an adult mammoth. How could we get out of the way of the bulldozers but save the fossils? We built large wooden boxes around each deposit, 23 in all. The boxes were moved to their present location at La Brea Tar Pits, and excavation began on “Project 23.” In addition to the boxes, there were 327 buckets of fossil material recovered from the LACMA salvage site for paleontologists to clean and sort through. It’s going to keep us busy for years!”

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) — After being randomly selected by the Department of State, the Traverse City City Commission conducted an extensive audit of the November 2020 election.

The audit, done on December 8, included analysis and examination of documents and procedures used by the City Clerk’s team leading up to the election and the procedures and documentation from a randomly selected voting precinct.

The independent audit also included a hand count of the vote totals in a randomly selected race.

City officials said the hand count resulted in a 100% match with the reported results.

The randomly selected precinct was Precinct 3.

re: #57 Mattand

Panasonic FTW.

Too bad Panasonic stopped making their countertop Induction Oven.. I bought it when it first came out, and the CR review is dead on accurate. I love it. I’m trying to cook bacon in it right now to see how long it actually takes - wish me luck.

How We Tested
We bought our Panasonic Countertop Induction Oven NU-HX100S through abt.com for $600. At 19x9x15 inches, the appliance is about as deep and wide as a typical toaster oven, but it’s a bit shorter in height. That limits the size of the dishes you can cook—no whole roast chicken, for example—only parts.

Though the Panasonic Countertop Induction Oven looks a bit like a toaster oven, it can do a lot more. So although we followed some aspects of our toaster oven testing protocol (toast and frozen pizza, for example), we tested the Panasonic primarily on its own claims, following several recipes from the cookbook that comes with the appliance, along with a handful of standard dishes.

All together, we prepared eight recipes in the oven, including a family chicken and vegetable dinner, grilled steak, stuffing, and a plain old batch of toast. For most of the recipes, we also cooked another version in a standard or convection oven to see how the timing and tastes compared.

CR’s Final Take
Panasonic has been an innovator in the small-appliance category—its FlashXpress NB-G110P toaster oven, with unique quartz and ceramic heating elements, is a CR favorite, with a hardcore consumer following. The Panasonic Countertop Induction Oven continues that tradition. It’s like what a microwave would be if it cooked food the way we wanted it to instead of giving us rubbery chicken, soggy pizza, and a tendency to cook large dishes unevenly.

That’s not to say the Panasonic is for everyone. Cost-conscious consumers will balk at the price. Skilled chefs might take a pass because they can achieve similar results using their cooktop, oven broiler, and other standard cooking equipment. But the oven will appeal to some consumers, including time-pressed parents who need to get weeknight dinners on the table fast, as well as enthusiasts of high-tech kitchen gadgetry.

Regardless of whether the Panasonic oven takes off, its biggest contribution might be proving that the benefits of induction can extend from the cooktop to the oven. We’d like to see it initiate a wave of other helpful uses for the technology.

Looks nasty up in the Fruit Bat lair for the next few days:

FRIDAY NIGHT: Snow arrives Friday evening (locally heavy) into the overnight hours. Along/south of US-10 it may remain all rain. Eventually, the rain/snow line lifts north to around a Charlevoix-Rogers City line overnight with rain south of there and snow north as the night progresses. The heaviest snow Friday night will fall over the Eastern U.P./far Northern Lower Michigan where there won’t be any changeover to rain. Messy travel conditions can be expected Friday night.

SATURDAY (DEC 11): Low pressure will swirl across Northern Michigan with some rain in the morning hours in parts of Lower Michigan with snow over the U.P. As the low passes, colder air will drop back in behind it quickly turning any rain over to snow by midday with a marked increase in a gusty north/northwest wind by the afternoon hours. Either way, messy travel is expected.

SNOW TOTALS FRIDAY NIGHT/SATURDAY: An early look at snow accumulation overnight Friday through Saturday evening shows a broad 6-10” north of a Traverse City-Gaylord-Rogers City line dropping off to around an inch along US-10 including Ludington and Big Rapids.

SUNDAY (DEC 12): Here’s the good news. Saturday’s storm is quick moving and won’t linger so we quickly clear out Saturday night with nearly full sunshine/dry weather back in the forecast for Sunday with highs in the mid-30’s/low-40’s.

I have returned to the habit of doing my shopping at certain times of the day as those stores I go to are most likely to be least occupied during that time frame. Even then I go in masked.

I’m there with you (well, not really since I’m in western Nebraska). My wife and I do the same with shopping, and try to make it as infrequent as possible. We don’t have the benefit of delivery services here, so oddball times for us.

That means that the snowblower is kept on a shelf in the garage during the summer.

We still have some leaves in the yard and planned to use the mower to mulch them.

I guess it’s time to put the mower on the shelf and get down the snow blower.

Sigh.

Between this and the statements that they are making about naming Donald Trump as Speaker of the House after midterms is not an accident. The purpose of elevating him is not to place him as the one setting agenda for the House of Representatives. The goal is to put him directly into succession for President. Given their track record, I do not doubt for a moment that if this is done, that the Republicans will have a January 6 ramped up times a hundred to use every means, including political violence, in an attempt to remove both President Biden and Vice President Harris from office simultaneously and seating him as ruler.
