Blurb:
In the The Dead South’s version of Chop Suey music video, we wanted to take elements of their live show and piece it together in an interesting way. Taking inspiration from System of a Down‘s video, we used blending layers and different motion graphics to give the illusion the band was morphing into one another. We took that inspiration with our version to the extreme by incorporating things like VHS film emulation and film scratches sampled from actual vintage film stock. Combining green screen footage of the band playing live, footage from the Mile Zero Fest in Key West Florida and concert clips from all over the world on tour, this video is a static mess of beauty, excitement and energy.

Putin’s Character Was Clear Long Before He Retreated to the Far End of the Table
Elected to bring order to Russia, Putin has plunged it into chaos. Revisiting her investigation into his origins, the author reveals how the former KGB officer’s fixed obsessions—and the West’s inability to confront him—set the stage for the catastrophe in Ukraine.

Black Smoke Maine Coon. I don’t know if his face is naturally that way, or how they could clip him to make it look like that. They do sometimes clip his lower legs, perhaps to help keep him clean. ?

Venezuela is trending because conservatives are pissed off that we might turn to them for oil. I don’t know how I feel about that, but they’re saying that somehow Biden administration is blocking drilling here at home. Didn’t Jen Psaki just explain that our oil industry is sitting on thousands of approved leases for known oil fields but aren’t developing them?

gonna throw them in a skillet and sear both sides. when I don’t marinate, I usually do that and then cut the heat back and throw in a cup or so of chicken or beef broth, covered, to let them simmer. But with the marinate, that’s just way too juicy. So, a nice sear and then a 30 minute or so low cook in the iron skillet. Sounds caveman primitive, but they really do come out tender. Probably helps that I use a butcher who really knows his business. Had a tenderloin of his last night that was a point and out of sight.

Knowing a good butcher is ALWAYS a plus. The one I used to go to unfortunately went out of business during the lock-down. I know the store he is now working at, but getting those “special” cuts are no longer possible as they don’t allow custom cuts. And I still has a sad about that.

They’ll find a way. How are the ones being delivered to Ukraine being paid for? Are their MAC addresses flagged as no charge? If they are, those units will be in high demand in Russia and a few might be “allowed” to slip over the border into friendly hands.

Around here it’s a Chevron station on the Alameda near Atherton. Notoriously expensive. Why? Who knows?
Oddly I haven’t seen any reports about the prices in Gorda, which is half way down the Big Sur coast. Now, if you’re in Gorda and need gas, you will be grateful that there is a station there regardless of price because it is a loooong way in either direction for the next gas.
Also, if I drove the vehicle that delivered that gas, I’d charge extra for taking a large truck down that particular bit of highway.

My truck is tiny but gets that. Something is wrong with it obviously since it used to get 18 for years, but I haven’t been able to track it down and it still passes emissions tests despite whatever is wrong with it. So since I don’t want to take it to a place and say “fix it” when I can’t afford to do that, now I have to put up with this too.

One thing I’m not doing is blaming Biden. Nothing the TreasonCaucus wants him to do, will actually fix anything, and even if it would it’s stuff that would take years to do.

I wonder if we’re seeing the end of the tank as a military weapon.

We may be seeing the end of the T-64 -> T-90 series but the M1, Challenger 2, Leclerc and other tanks using the best types of composite armor are still quite viable. Losses of M1’s in Iraq were minimal, more often from friendly fire than anything. Losses of Iraqi & Saudi M1’s are higher, pointing to training and employment considerations.

The RPG-29 is considered a major threat but even that only damaged an M1 it didn’t destroy it like the AT-4, Javelin and NLAWs are doing in Ukraine.

re: #107 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

There are gas stations in the desert that know they can charge exorbitant prices… because they are in a desert.

They are what I’ve sometimes referred to here as as “captive audience” or “trap” stations. Clownstick kept yammering during his Deadhead Tour about a gas station in California that was charging $7/gallon. Ignoring the fact that it was the last one on a stretch of road on Highway 1 in central California for at least 30-40 miles, and they’ve regularly price gouged everyone unfortunate enough to have to stop there. And that they charged $11/gallon for a time in 2018. Because reasons.

Gas stations near airports are often over $1 more a gallon than everywhere else because they want to gouge people returning rental cars.

If they think Primm, NV is bad, check out the gas prices in Baker, CA. Usually about $1.50 more than the rest of Southern California, on any day ending in Y.

The Onion Router (TOR) was literally designed for situations like this as well.

Thing is, Tor has been compromised for years, so there’s that.

I love bluegrass metal covers. Hayseed Dixie is another favorite of mine.

Another flavor of cross-genre covers is this band my brother turned me on to last weekend. Metalachi.

Oh man. I spent so many hours in my car commuting from my home to an adjunct job in south-central Indiana, but hadn’t thought of Bob and Tom for years. Once out of range of Bloomington, it was the only thing on the radio besides country, Rush, and evangelical.

As truckers with The People’s Convoy drive in circles around the Beltway, back at base in Hagerstown, organizers worry over nearing bad weather. “We need immediate help loading all supplies and donations into cargo bays before the rain showers come in,” they write in a text.

Oh dear. I believe there’s a Dear Martha letter coming. There just has to be.

Speaking of gas prices, I got a Tesla Model 3, and just noticed you can get your charging stats on the app, (never really tracked it because charging is so cheap).
But here’s the last 31 days of charging.
We did a road trip from Vegas to Phoenix, to Palm Springs. Orange County, LA, then back to Vegas
So the charging for all that was $122, a little less than it should’ve been because the last 2 days the hotel had free charging.
The real cool thing is daily home charging is only $1-2 per day.

Thing is, Tor has been compromised for years, so there’s that.

To my knowledge, all cases of un-anonymizing Tor users have been either: Malware working in conjunction with the browser, and not the browser or network itself.

or

The user doing something stupid and giving away their ID via non-technical means. This is generally how the FBI gets cybercriminals and how Silk Road was shut down.

According to what I’ve heard from the FBI and security experts at the last industrial security forum I attended before COVID, since Tor has been a thing, investigations of cybercriminals take on average 3 months from beginning to arrest instead of 3 weeks.

Bob & Tom (as well as Glenn Beck, unfortunately) was my early-morning radio go-to near the end of my shift when I worked as a guard, after Art Bell/CtoC AM signed off for the day; when I got off work, I’d still be listening during the hour-long commute to college.

I’ve got my Model 3 plugged in to the 40A charger and set to start at midnight - $0.25/kW. Will take the first 5kW from the battery backup then pull another 30 or so from the grid…has ‘half a tank’ right now but I like the missus to be fully charged to start the week.

Thanks for the tip on the Charging stats…315kW the last 30 days - $83 savings on gas.

I watched 3 minutes of that idiotic shit. When was the last time there even was a “World’s Fair”? There used to be one like every 5-8 years but the last one I can remember was Montreal Expo in 1967 (100th anniversary of Canada).

I’m not an economist but I wouldn’t want to be Russia right now.

Russia has $117 million worth of coupons on dollar bonds coming due on March 16 that don’t have the option to be paid in rubles, the JPMorgan strategists said. If Russia decides to pay in rubles following Putin’s decree, “that would be an event of default and would trigger CDS,” Nguyen said.

The CDS cover a gross $41 billion of Russian debt, according to the Depository Trust & Clearing Corp.

Companies with upcoming maturities of dollar-denominated notes include state oil producer Rosneft PJSC, whose $2 billion bond matures on Sunday, and state-controlled energy giant Gazprom PJSC, which has a $1.3 billion note due on Monday. The latter was already in the process of settling that payment, Bloomberg reported earlier.

It’s something that happens almost every year but no one gives a damn about them anymore because Comic Cons, E3, and shit like Burning Man are a bigger deal now.

The last one was Expo 2020 in Dubai. Wikipedia lists it as happening in 2021-2022 because of COVID I’m assuming.

The next one scheduled is Expo 2023 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I live in Vegas. Gas along the I-15 corridor is always a buck or two more expensive…until you hit Barstow. If you gas up in Vegas, you can pass Primm and Baker.

Furnace Creek is *always* the most expensive gas in the nation. If you can go another 25 miles you can hit Beatty or Stovepipe Wells for a buck or two less.

I ride a motorcycle…you *plan* your routes and gas stops out here in the desert. Never had to fill up in Furnace Creek, Primm, or Baker as a result.

Also, the idea that Russia and China are allies or that they regularly work together in any way that doesn’t greatly benefit both of them is another right wing fantasy.

Russia and China hate each other. Ask Russia what they think about the BRI.

But then again these are people who still think China is “eating our lunch” and bend over backwards to praise Xi while also accusing him of bioterrorism so… whatever.
