We are in Clarion, PA now on the last leg of our return trip. Started out raining this morning but it has stopped now. The weather has really cooled down after the rain, it’s 70°

Our youngest daughter in Florida just received her real estate license! She told us that her goal is to sell us a condo LOL. I said I might consider moving to Florida when Mar-a-Lago is under water, but only if MAL is the only property that’s under water.

Yes, the breeze has shifted from the SE to from the NW and up from 1-2 to 1-6 MPH.Temperature broke right after that reading, and is down to 108.

The Japanese yen dropped to 143 yen to the dollar Wednesday / today. It was at 140 yen to the dollar on Friday. It’s believed the yen is dropping because there’s a concern the Fed is going to raise interest rates. When I went to Japan in 2019, the yen to dollar ratio was 112/1.

In other interesting news (or, as I told my old Scientology protesting buddies, “culty news”) we have this:

Lawyers call on consumer centers to reject ex-Unification Church’s request

A group of lawyers in Japan says a religious group formerly known as the Unification Church is asking consumer centers to provide information on consultations related to the religious group. The lawyers have called on the centers to reject such requests.

The group now called the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification is in the spotlight for alleged involvement in a dubious marketing practice known as “spiritual sales.”

The National Network of Lawyers Against Spiritual Sales provides support for former followers of the group. It held a news conference on Tuesday.

Lawyer Kawai Yasuo said people related to the religious group visited local consumer affairs centers and asked officials about consultations over damage it caused.

He said centers in the prefectures of Osaka and Hiroshima, the city of Nagoya and elsewhere have received such requests.

Kawai said the lawyers’ group has asked the National Consumer Affairs Center, a core organization for local consumer centers, to dismiss such requests.

He said the religious group is likely attempting to reduce consultations as much as possible and have in-person negotiations to lower its payment for damage.

The lawyer called on former believers and others related to the damage not to talk directly with the group, but to use the government’s consultation window launched on Monday or other means.

The National Consumer Affairs Center said it does not answer questions about what businesses it was consulted on, and will not disclose contents of consultations even if asked.

The Family Federation for World Peace and Unification said the visits to the consumer centers were aimed at fully cooperating with the government’s policy, and that it also aims to take concrete measures by grasping the overall picture of the damage it caused.

The group added that it is not true that the group is trying to minimize the scale of the damage by gaining information on people who consult the centers.

A few of things to note:
* NHK is the government news outlet, basically Japan’s VOA
* The “consultation service” was just started up by the government earlier this week to serve as a liaison between people having trouble with the Moonies and legal help and counseling. (Kyodo is a government wire service.) english.kyodonews.net
* The lawyers’ group mentioned here has gotten back million$$$ of dollars over the past three decades or so from the Moonies. Basically, what the Moonies are selling are spiritual purification rites to absolve Japanese followers of their ancestors’ sins against Koreans. We are not talking piddling amounts. Apparently the mother of Abe’s assassin gave $1 million to the Unification church.
* Apparently the government has now decided that the Moonies are a threat of some sort, but it’s unclear whether the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has decided to sever its long ties to the Moonies.

Einstein’s 2nd wife was his 2nd cousin, but they didn’t have any kids. His mother pushed him into this marriage, because she hated his first wife (apparently back in the day, “Serbian” was something a German could be racist against).
