My daughter called, wanted to let me know that Miami area was spared the wrath of Ian. She told me that she had just been on vacation 4 weeks ago in Sanibel and Punta Gorda.

“It’s gone now.”

I’m not on Twitter so I couldn’t chime in. I had to reboot my iPhone before I was able to see anything but the maintenance screen. Once I rebooted I could see the LGF Home page.

Charles, the Twitter controls are weird. The first two arrows do nothing. I can only reload the entire comment to see the tweet in native format. There’s no control for that. FYI.

Couldn’t find your response. For me it was freshman year when a friend said “REM are coming to my freshman comp class and I don’t give a shit, you wanna go in my place (knowing I was a fan).” It wasn’t REM, it was just Michael Stipe and Peter Buck. They weren’t really famous yet beyond college radio with their EP and then Murmur. Stipe wouldn’t look at us—he just played with a piece of thread from his pants pocket; Buck had on his white tuxedo shirt all rumpled. Stipe talked about avoiding pronouns in his songs; Buck proudly showed the cover of what would be their second album. I had seen them the night before at a charity show in Decatur, GA at a place called Harvest Moon. Pretty heady for an 18yo fan. The class happened because it was taught by a local Atlanta rock critic named Tony Paris (iirc).

It is crazy. She gives them everything the first time around. Dearie doesn’t fuck around, so they run back to her to complain, and she gives them everything again. You would think an embarrassment factor would kick in and/or she would realize that she is building a reputation that will be around far longer than Trump or this case.

Today was the last day of doggy daycare for Merle and Milo - the place we use is shuttering as the owner had to go to Texas to take care of an elderly aunt who is in hospice care. Chris, the ‘bus driver’ is a nice young man…said he was going to apply for jobs with UPS and PG&E because he likes driving. I put $500 in an envelope as a good-bye gift and one of my wife’s business cards. Her company has a pretty hefty facilities org and internal delivery service. After he’s had a few weeks off she’ll hook him up with HR and get him an interview. He’ll make decent money (25-30 bucks an hour probably) and get good health benefits. He’s got a kid so that’s key. I think he’s still on his parent’s insurance as he’s about 24-25 years old.

Now we have to find a slot in one of the half dozen other day-walker services on the coast and get the boys back with the pack a couple of days a week. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy not spending 800 bucks a month and take them for longer, earlier walks on the beach.

I just hope that DOJ appeals her latest travesty of a ruling. She’s ridiculous.

They can’t, but there’s two other things at play here:

1) They have an appeal of the entire special master order before the 11th Circuit, and the court has already indicated the government’s likelihood of winning that appeal on the merits;
2) This whole thing is just a sideshow. The government can afford to slow-walk this review while the criminal investigation proceeds apace. They got essentially what they wanted; ignoring what amounts to Trump’s temper tantrum, aided and abetted by the corrupt federal judge who kicked the whole process off in the first place, is a viable option for them.
