A receiver for Buffalo took a hit to the head on a reception against Baltimore. He was later able to jog to the dressing room but was ruled out with a concussion. Given the complete mismanagement of the Tagovailoa situation, the NFL is going to go zero-tolerance - well for at least a week or two.

As for the football, credit the Bills for coming back from a 20-3 deficit to win 23-20 over the Ravens. Second time this season the Ravens have let a big lead slip away.

When the classified documents news broke, I started to get hopeful that Trump might actually be indicted soon.

That hope is pretty much gone now. I’m back to thinking he’s never going to face consequences, because how could they let him continue spreading hate and inciting violence like this otherwise? They have enough evidence to charge him with dozens of serious crimes at this point, and he’s still walking around thumbing his nose at them.

I don’t have an encouraging response but I do think I have a truthful one. This will continue until MAGAt arrogance and bloodlust finally overcome their inmate cowardice and they launch the nationwide orgy of violence they have been threatening and preparing for for decades. They will find out then how far from reality their worldview and basic assumptions about society and their own capabilities have strayed. When it is over we must not make the same mistake the Republicans and the Unionist Democrats made in 1865. “Kindness to the cruel is cruelty to the innocent.”

I was going bonkers trying to figure out why the SQL LAST_INSERT_ID() function wasn’t working, until I thought of checking the structure of that table. Sure enough, in the move, the default values for some columns weren’t properly set, and when inserting a new row (as with a new post or LGF Page) the insert failed quietly because it didn’t explicitly set those values.

Just thought you’d like to know. But posting Pages is working just fine now.

I remember watching a video of a brief brawl between lefties and some conservative types at a street demo back when I was a Republican.. The chubby conservo threw a clumsy punch and missed, the lefty landed a flurry of counter punches. He forced Chubby back until the latter fell and then scrambled to a hasty retreat. This seemed to happen a lot, only armored police could handle the lefties. I thought what the hell? Why are our guys such a bunch of weenies? At the time I attributed this to selective media coverage. I know better now, it is a real life demonstration of Dunning Krueger effect. Every scenario these asswipes envision for how they’re gonna “Take Back the Country” involves everybody from the cops up to the Armed Forces either joining them or standing aside. A good example was 1/6, where they started by asking and begging the Capital Police to either step aside or join them, then shifted to abuse and violence when they realized the guys with the guns weren’t on their side. They genuinely believe that the majority of the people with guns are on their side and have no game plan for what happens when that reality crumbles into dust.

It’s funny how the Ukraine war has so radically redefined the balance of power in the world. Everyone tiptoed around the Russians for so long because they had a large army, modern-ish equipment, and a large stockpile of nukes. Now, nobody has any trouble telling Putin to go fuck himself and daring him to do something about it.

They don’t just think all the cops are on their side, they really believe that silent majority BS they’ve been telling themselves for years. The only group they have a majority of is older white males. Barely.

I think this is part of the reason they feel like anyone that remotely doesn’t look like a hippy or… “brown” is safe for them to go up to randomly in a store and start bitching about the prices of stuff and then go on a rant about Biden.

I’ve never really had any major reactions to the COVID shots (or really any shots). Very low grade fevers almost not worth mentioning. A little more tired than normal. Damn arm hurts but almost every vaccination does that. TDAP ones seem to be the worst for that for me. My 2nd of the original COVID shots I got a migraine but I’m 99% sure that there were other factors involved including but not limited to my allergies + high pollen count day.

I’m getting my bivantent Moderna + Flu shot tomorrow afternoon. Since I had COVID (probably BA5 but not certain, just did at home tests) 2 months ago I really don’t expect any worse reactions, but I’ll let everyone know.

Also someone mentioned Shingles and Shingrix. I need to talk to my doctor about that (as soon as I find a new doctor with this insurance). I have no memory of having chickenpox as a child and no apparent medical records from the time about it.

I remember one time we thought I had chickenpox but it turned out to be something else. (I think it was infantigo but I remember it being on my arms and not face).

I’m not sure if getting a Shingles vax is right under the circumstances or if there is a chickenpox vax I need first. So anyway, I really need to talk to a medical professional on that one. I don’t trust Dr. Google (who’s first name I believe may be “Karen”).

I think that this is the past the threateners want to return to in the future. But they want to be the bad guys. (Clay was an outspoken abolitionist. ) What they do not seem to understand is that this is not a one-of. This goes on and on through however long their life is…

Clay was elected to three terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives, but he lost support among Kentuckian voters as he promoted abolition. His anti-slavery activism earned him violent enemies. During a political debate in 1843, he survived an assassination attempt by Sam Brown, a hired gun. The scabbard of Clay’s Bowie knife was tipped with silver and, in jerking the Bowie knife out in retaliation pulled this scabbard up so that it was just over his heart. Brown’s bullet struck the scabbard and embedded itself in the silver. Despite having been shot in the chest, Clay tackled Brown, and with his Bowie knife removed Brown’s nose and one eye and possibly an ear before he threw Brown over an embankment.

In 1845, Clay began publishing an anti-slavery newspaper, True American, in Lexington, Kentucky. Within a month, he received death threats, had to arm himself, and regularly barricaded the armored doors of his newspaper office for protection, besides setting up two four-pounder cannons inside. Shortly afterward, a mob of about 60 men broke into his office and seized his printing equipment. To protect his venture, Clay set up a publication center in Cincinnati, Ohio, a center of abolitionists in the free state but continued to reside in Kentucky.

Clay served in the Mexican-American War as a captain with the 1st Kentucky Cavalry from 1846 to 1847. He had opposed the annexation of Texas and the expansion of slavery into the Southwest, but had volunteered because of Mexico’s attempt to seize the state, which it still claimed. While making a speech for abolition in 1849, Clay was attacked by the six Turner brothers, who beat, stabbed, and tried to shoot him. In the ensuing fight, Clay fought off all six and, using his Bowie knife, killed Cyrus Turner.

I get that. But I was googling symptoms to see if I needed to go to a doctor. Both times WebMD said, yup, go. I did. Both times WebMD was correct. Down to the letter.

Still, it’s not worth having a doctor tell you you’re stupid for googling. Sorry, kids. I’m doctor aversive (I’m encountering humans aversive) so it takes a “you really need to go to a doctor or possibly go blind” to get me to go to the doctor.

I went. It was option A (option B was the going blind option), doctor is monitoring and all is expected to be well.

Since I’m watching the PHP error log to catch problems, I’ve noticed some warnings coming from pages I’d almost forgotten existed, probably because bots are crawling, crawling everywhere, they’re everywhere.

Pages like The Shrieking Harpy Rant Generator.

Oh dear Lord, I forgot that was a thing.

Yeah, but the right (as in productive) way to approach your doc is to tell him your symptoms and, at least in the first pass, let him tell you what he thinks you have.

He may be wrong, but he’s a lot more likely to be right than google.

That’s what I do. I don’t tell them what it is or what I think it is or anything like that. I’m not trained, Google or not, I don’t know shit. I made the mistake of saying “I looked on Google” and that was all it took.

Wasn’t the ImageMagick version - the new server is running the latest version of CentOS, and some of the system paths changed in a way that got the shit all fucked up.

Yes, he was one of many interesting characters in US History.

What amazes me is that he was able to survive so many attempts on his life.

Slavers and their accomplices, who were quite willing to enslave fellow human beings, had no compunctions about using violence to get what they wanted.

Clay knew that, still fought them, and was not only successful, but survived.

Cassius Marcellus Clay (October 19, 1810 - July 22, 1903) was a mean miserable SOB, who was good with a Bowie knife and quick to take offense.

President Lincoln appointed Clay US Minister to Russia at the beginning of the Civil War. Apparently while at court Clay was challenged to a duel by a Russian nobleman who slapped him across the face. Clay responded by knocking the gentleman unconscious, and considered the incident closed.

As a result of his ministry, Russia threatened war with Britain and France, if either of the two countries recognized the Confederacy. Thus maintaining the Monroe Doctrine and curtailing foreign support of the Confederacy.

I just spoke with a friend , Ms. J, who I know because she went to college with my husband.

She was 16 and he was 60, and one of their professors, her advisor, asked Mr. w to take Ms. J under his wing, with the goal to ‘make her hate her own species a little less’. The mother of Ms. J worked in the bookstore, and also wanted Mr. w to watch out for Ms. J. She graduated, went to law school, and became an immigration attorney. She used to work for Catholic Charities in Albuquerque, now she’s at Jewish Family Services in Seattle. I think Mr. w achieved his assigned goal.

We were bike-riding buddies.

Yes, fascinating questions!

What defines us and makes us ‘us’? What is important to preserve about us.

My concern with memories, and I think that it is addressed in video a bit, is that preserved memories may no longer have the context which gives them meaning and value.

I was going to say “real-world context”. But perceived versus actual real-world is also a big philosophical discussion.

And I think that I would need a lot more caffeine before I will venture further into this topic.

To me, this is one of those pop songs where the covers and different artists’ interpretations often add to the depth of the song and complement it rather than just displacing the previous versions. If that makes any sense.

re: #158 ckkatz

Lying in my bed, I hear the clock tick and think of you
Caught up in circles
Confusion is nothing new
Flashback, warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcase of memories
Time after

Sometimes you picture me
I’m walking too far ahead
You’re calling to me, I can’t hear
What you’ve said
Then you say, “go slow”
And I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I’ll be waiting
Time after time
If you’re lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows
You’re wondering if I’m okay
Secrets stolen from deep inside (deep inside)
And the drum beats out of time

If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you, I’ll be waiting
Time after time
If you’re lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I will be waiting
Time after time
Time after time

I’ve got a suitcase of memories that I almost left behind
Time after time
Time, time, time
But you say to go slow but I fall behind
Time after time after time (after time, oh)

I don’t have the training or expertise to define what ‘it’ is. But the song seems to speak on many levels.

I don’t know enough to define what or how. But I have to assume that does not happen through random chance. That it happens through the hard work of professionals.

re: #174 Belafon

Long ago various thinkers/writers delved into the problem of modernity, by which I mean the post-Medieval world, the world in which industry has replaced subsistence farming by peasants.

These people crying about masculinity today are in crisis. Masculinity is not in crisis, the whiners are in crisis.

I know I am repeating myself, but modernity, especially information-age modernity, destroys the old worldviews.

Seven millennia of agricultural communities forced us humans into believing certain things: the (agricultural) land is ruled over by lords and kings, who defend the turf against outsiders.

Because without the land you don’t have agriculture, and without the latter you die.

And who appointed the men (almost always men) to be lords and kings? Why, the gods of course.

And this is how the marriage of religion and state started and that marriage wants to continue today.

Except modernity has pooh-poohed gods, and our information-age lifestyle means most humans don’t know how to plant a corn kernel in the ground, much lest tend and harvest their food.

But our culture was so ingrained in us over many millennia that we have a hard time giving up the old ways.

This idea that men go out to fight and women stay home with the kids is directly tied to the past several millennia.

I don’t expect the old ways to die easily.

We can mock Ben Shapiro and his ilk all day long. But that is not going to change them.

What we hope is simply that they will die off faster than the modernity-adjusted folk.

Public Service Announcement: As we move into the Halloween season, it is time for the annual reminder that NOBODY’S WASTING EXPENSIVE DRUGS ON YOUR KIDS! Even if you live next a crack den, the owners are not going to be wasting their drugs trying to kill your kids or get them hooked. And no, the mellow fellow down the block is not going to hand out his edibles because that shit is expensive. Likewise, nobody is expending the time or energy figuring out ways to get razor blades into apples without getting caught in the hopes that they can catch one of the few kids that will eat those instead of handing them off or dumping them.

So please, for the love of Zod, come up with a new excuse to raid your kids’ candy bags for your favorite treats. Or, better yet, stop ruining their memories and just go buy a bag for yourself!

My sister and BIL had mild cold-like symptoms for the past couple weeks, but repeated COVID tests were negative so they assumed it was just a cold (and maybe it was) and interacted with others accordingly. Yesterday (Sunday), we were at my nephew’s home to celebrate his son’s third birthday. Months ago, his son had picked up COVID at day care and all three of them became ill, his wife who is diabetic with the worst symptoms. Today we learned that neither he nor his wife ever tested positive with the home tests — it was only the PCR test that confirmed the diagnosis.

Sigh.

That’s a manipulative use of the word “revisionist” since “Holocaust revisionism” almost exclusively refers to Holocaust deniers, which Tracey obviously isn’t; someone not knowing the context of the discussion may assume he is being called a denier. Him being a giant red-brown goatse is beside the point.

..

I once again have to ask myself how is it that Youtube has this monstrously large music library that is free to us to use, without charging us.

For example, the above link is to the officially provided Amazon soundtrack. Amazon Content Services provided it to Youtube. Now if one has Prime one can listen to the soundtrack on Prime Music of course, though Amazon sells the music too.

But how can Amazon hope to make sales if Youtube provides it for free?

I never get over this question I have about Youtube.

Scores of Venezuelan migrants in New York City are hopping on vans to head down to Florida for Hurricane Ian clean-up, they told The Post.

The migrants had scant information about who they would be working for, but they still piled into vans in Queens that they said were headed to the Sunshine State over the weekend.

“They want us for hurricane cleanup, we’d get paid $15 an hour, overtime and $15 for food daily, I think,” said Javier Moreno, 37, noting that a woman named Camila “from an organization” approached him with a flier.

“I’m going for the work. It’s been hard for us migrants to find work here in New York, that’s why a lot of us are going. How’s the work in Florida?”

A driver of one of the vans at the designated pick-up site, a corner in Corona, told The Post on Saturday that he was headed to Florida.

No. They belong in prison. They belong in jail pending trial. That they’re unhappy with jail conditions is too bad/so sad. These are the same “law and order” types that insist on cruel and unusual punishments to be the norm.

What are they saying? That Gitmo will treat them better? That can’t be it, can it?

GOP and Trump have mainstreamed the notion of never accepting defeats and claiming wins that are entirely undeserved.

That’s like saying the Yankees should just claim that they won last night 4-3, instead of losing 3-1. Why? Because they can do so. Who cares about the box score and the video replay. Same with Aaron Judge. He’s actually hit 66 homers this year. Why? Because I can just assert it. It just feels right. He was on pace to hit that many, so anything less means that there was malarkey.

These are extremists who are undermining democracy and ignore reality with intent to substitute their own distorted worldviews. They are dangerous.

re: #233 Eclectic Cyborg

Here’s the underlying story:

It’s the latest evidence showing that Donald Trump’s refusal to accept his 2020 election loss to Joe Biden has enlivened a fascist strain within the GOP.

According to the poll, only 43% of Republicans said candidates who lose an election should concede. Among independents — which could include many conservatives and others who are, shall we say, less politically astute — that number creeps up to 57%.

Still fairly troubling — but at least it’s a majority.

Among Democrats, 74% of respondents said election candidates who lose should concede. (The poll’s margin of error was approximately 2.7 percentage points.)

So, 57% of GOPers say their candidate shouldn’t concede. Including independents, that number drops down to 43% (the crazification factor strikes again).

Babcock Ranch calls itself “America’s first solar-powered town.” Its nearby solar array — made up of 700,000 individual panels — generates more electricity than the 2,000-home neighborhood uses, in a state where most electricity is generated by burning natural gas, a planet-warming fossil fuel.

So when Hurricane Ian came barreling toward southwest Florida this week, it was a true test for the community. The storm obliterated the nearby Fort Myers and Naples areas with record-breaking surge and winds over 100 mph. It knocked out power to more than 2.6 million customers in the state, including 90% of Charlotte County.
But the lights stayed on in Babcock Ranch.

“We have proof of the case now because [the hurricane] came right over us,” Nancy Chorpenning, a 68-year-old Babcock Ranch resident, told CNN. “We have water, electricity, internet — and we may be the only people in Southwest Florida who are that fortunate.”

Though the problem isn’t really with individual candidates refusing to acknowledge their losses: it’s that one of country’s two major political parties seems have adopted a blanket policy of “refuse to accept losses” as one of its main principles.

The problem is not so much their refusal to concede, but using this theme in rallies and as fundraisers to incite voters to believe that the elections are unfair, and to change election processes and laws in states to make it harder for their opposition to vote and easier for their votes to be discarded.

It’s not merely the concession. It’s the active undermining of election results that these fuckers don’t agree with.

After all, they didn’t have problems with undercard results in any of these same elections. They didn’t insist on throwing out all of the ballots where GOPers won local races on the same ballot that went for Biden. Nope. They wont do that. They are out to undermine democracy, and concessions are an integral part of participating in an election process where there are always winners and losers.

If you lost, most of the time it’s because of you. Once in a while, we find that the ballot itself is a problem (see Florida 2000). But the way these extremists are framing it - the only election that is valid is the one they win. That’s very dangerous.

It is mundane, as in, not mysterious (people both fall out accidentally and commit suicide this way), unlike a polonium poisoning or a family murder-suicide; and the point was that there is no evidence most of the deaths touted as mysterious by the sensationalists have anything to do with displeasing or challenging those in power in the first place. You could make such a case for some, but not for most.

This is so even with non-mundane cases, like the former Novatek top manager in Spain who killed himself and his family (it happening in Spain pretty much precludes foul play given the known ineptitude of the Russian assassins even in simpler poisoning cases - who would have bothered with a complex staging? - and the Spanish police concluded there was no 3rd party involvement). He is mentioned in all the lists of “mysterious” deaths but nobody can point to a concrete political reason for why anyone would bother with a nobody in Russian politics like him in the first place.

For about 30 years now I’ve speculated about a coming surge point in human evolution. A variety of factors, technical, social, demographic, etc. would combine to create a supreme crisis that would eliminate a number of counter-survival traits in the human race; things like sadism, pathological greed and oppositional defiant disorder. These traits make it difficult to survive in a situation that would require some degree of cooperation. With the frankly bizarre response to covid, nothing less than a mass movement to promote a deadly disease, we may be seeing it happen, or start to happen in real time.

Okay, consider that the Black Death and the Spanish Flu didn’t do that thing and then reconsider this thought.

Most of the thing you’re talking about are pretty high-order behaviors that are replicated culturally not genetically, even if as social primates there’s an thread of adaptation to pro-social behavior. The culture has not changed sufficiently to eliminate the kind of self-involvement that people…particularly in the US…treat as an axiom. Unhealthy social constructs like hyperindividualism and imagined hierarchies are disturbingly persistent because they’re good enough-strategies: they concentrate resources in the hands of a tiny number of people that can “reproduce” the traits, while most of the individuals participating fail and die.

That’s why monarchy kind of works; it’s why capitalism is so damn sticky.

But if we do view through the lens of evolution, well, it’s still a viable tactic to trashbin a bunch of your own team but monopolize the resources of your environment. That’s how bait balls and ant colonies work. And…and this is the scariest thing…there is absolutely no guarantee that anything will persist and be refined by evolution, evolution has no stopping measures or self-correcting properties. If a strategy lays waste to the land but increases population, who can move to another location and repeat, that’s a viable strategy right up ‘til the point it’s extinction.

COVID deniers view COVID as a test that will confirm their base assumptions about hierarchy, because all existence exists only to sort people. When COVID kills indifferent to their categories and labels and borders, it cannot be because their pyramid-shaped diagram is wrong, but because a betrayal, an alien and rebellious force from the lower orders, has arisen.

These people are in a death cult, but they’re just the far side of a bell curve of classic American axioms:

each person is alone,
all things are tests of your worthiness,
hierarchy is a representation of merit and thus hierarchy is generally valid,
cooperation is alien and sinful.
the bottom of the hierarchy have not earned their lives
the middle of the hierarchy must both labor and police one another to prove their worth and make their position rise
the top of the hierarchy exist in a state of exception and can simply void the meritocratic basis of the hierarchy when it is inconvenient, it is part of the system that they can remake the system.

…all of which is a regional version of massive, world-spanning frameworks that also sort people and decide how much a life is worth. “Ownership, and thus money, is more real than people” is the base assumption of nation, and capitalism, and most especially of the neoliberal order that’s in charge of triage whenever there’s a crisis. It’s a death cult, but it’s the same death cult that powered Margaret Thatcher, colonialism, the AIDS crisis, and the Hurricane Katrina response. Pretty soon this same logic will mean that brown people in other countries just have to die from climate change because really, they chose their death and it’s wrong for them to run or ask for help but white people in this country experiencing the same disruption are victims.

There is no mirror-image response to this worldview, no good eugenics in which the Bad People will just prove themselves incapable of life.

Bigotries are comorbid because they all satisfy the lust for higher position, for a sense that there are concrete winning conditions to existence. There’s a pipeline from the new age to reactionary conspiracy because both propose that there exists a true and natural order that make one better than but also has a theodicy to break the glass case on in case of failure of the occult to provide material benefits. On this board itself, you can see the path of members who get really caught up in contempt and end up over among the kooks and reactionaries.

A company that has received billions of pounds in green energy subsidies from UK taxpayers is cutting down environmentally-important forests, a BBC Panorama investigation has found.

Drax runs Britain’s biggest power station, which burns millions of tonnes of imported wood pellets - which is classed as renewable energy.

The BBC has discovered some of the wood comes from primary forests in Canada.

The company says it only uses sawdust and waste wood.

Panorama analysed satellite images, traced logging licences and used drone filming to prove its findings. Reporter Joe Crowley also followed a truck from a Drax mill to verify it was picking up whole logs from an area of precious forest.

Ecologist Michelle Connolly told Panorama the company was destroying forests that had taken thousands of years to develop.

“It’s really a shame that British taxpayers are funding this destruction with their money. Logging natural forests and converting them into pellets to be burned for electricity, that is absolutely insane,” she said.

The Drax power station in Yorkshire is a converted coal plant, which now produces 12% of the UK’s renewable electricity.

It has already received £6bn in green energy subsidies. Burning wood is considered green, but it is controversial among environmentalists.

It would certainly bring home the fact that “Club Gitmo” exists only in their fever dreams.

It’s like the Club Fed myth. I knew a guy, an 80s S&L, crook who actually did time in the federal minimum security prison in Florida. On the positive side, there was no rape and no violence. Other prisoners have said otherwise but they were speaking in public and possibly advancing an agenda. On the negative side, they actually had less space and less privacy than inmates in Supermax, a tiny cubicle with a bed and a little desk/shelf assembly. They were allowed 7 books or magazines at a time.
They worked on the grounds of the Air Force Base, maintaining flower beds, mowing the lawns etc. He liked the work and said it did him a lot of good. The food was poor, supposedly worse than max and you were allowed very limited amounts from the commissary.

The easiest method is the inline translation if you are in Chrome (I’m sure Firefox and Edge have the same feature). Right mouseclick on the block, “translate to English”. Alternatively you can paste them into Google Translate or Deeple.

I set up Google Translate in a separate tab and c/p single paragraphs (there’s a limit to how many characters you can enter). Seems to work fairly well—better than the autotranslate I used on Nyet’s youtube video earlier.

Well, it’s Elon, so fairly lame, but he does have one sorta-point: I think the Crimea is going to be the one “conquest”/“annexation” the Russians (whether Putin or someone else) are going to be allowed to keep.
For one, whether one considers Khrushchev’s administrative attachment of the area to Ukraine in 1954 to be a “mistake” or not, the Crimea is/was the most remote and least “Ukrainian” of their territories. Secondly, it has been “annexed” since 2014, so de
facto
Russian for a while. Third, Crimea is (IMO) valuable to Ukraine not so much as a possession, but for the elimination of a threat (there is a LOT of military development there: the Russians aren’t going to willingly give it up) - ideally, some sort of agreement (probably some under-the-table “understanding”) could be reached to minimize Russian military presence there: nothing too humiliating, just enough of a plausible show of force, but a diminution of the actual threat to Ukraine ( and any other Black Sea country).

Yeah, peace WITH Crimea would be ideal, but peace WITHOUT it would still be peace. Which I think should be the main objective

I guess there is a question of whether or not Putin would respond with the use of nukes if Crimea is attacked, as though it were an integral part of Russia. The way things are going, I don’t think the Russians can defend Crimea after Kherson is liberated and the Ukrainians are ready to take it back.

I was going bonkers trying to figure out why the SQL LAST_INSERT_ID() function wasn’t working, until I thought of checking the structure of that table. FWIW, I quite agree with Sergey: in an ideal/just world, the Russo-Ukrainian War would end with Ukraine in undisputed possession of the whole Crimean Peninsula. And no Russian bases or troops anywhere (outside of the honor guard at the Consulate in Sebastopol). However, there is that non-trivial matter of possession: I/we can’t predict what is going to happen, but it’s going to be up to the Ukrainians to decide how much they really want that territory. And pace NM, despite how well the Ukes have fought in this war - and how poorly the Russians have - I don’t think the “liberation” of the Crimea would be that easy.

If you think the war’s going to get any easier in coming weeks and months, the Russians seem to ignore the hazards of winter campaigns, just as surely as they ignored spring offensive in mud season and having inadequate logistics methods for their entire post-Soviet history. All of that is coming to bear here.

Sure, you’ve got a bunch of Russians kvetching that the whole world is fighting them and the Russians have to take on Ukraine and all the tech the west is providing their ally in fighting off Russia, but the thing is - Russia initiated the invasion. They started this war. They invaded sovereign Ukraine and tried to retcon the reason for doing too many times to keep track. Even the Putin puppets can’t bother to keep up.

They’re just content with Russian conscripts being thrown into a meat grinder and complaining about how the US is sending money to aid Ukraine in defense of their democracy..
