We finished this arrangement just 2 days before the video session in Tokyo. Nobody planned for the set design, the idea with the table and sake came naturally when we arrived at the beautiful Japanese house, organized by Ibanez!

re: #1 A Cranky One

speaking of which, I am mmmirele over at post dot news, if people want to follow me.

I did a 27 page (!) PowerPoint chock full of pictures and commentary from my trip to Tokyo at work and have been sharing it around. It’s gotten rave reviews. I had a more than a few people suggest to me that I should hire myself out as someone to go along with rich people taking a trip, just to take pictures and then do a slide show/PowerPoint afterwards. Which I kind of find amusing. I write about stuff I find interesting and Japan is endlessly fascinating to me.

However, showing that PowerPoint to anyone outside my employer’s walled garden will require me to have to recreate it, because I can’t export the thing and email it to my personal address, as it gets stopped by the mail server. It’s 14 MB as a PowerPoint shrunk down to an Adobe PDF. (The original was 87 MB.) *sigh* So annoying.

That’s what it sounds like. I suppose it could be a friend they had over. It could also be a child crying out for help, not seriously trying to kill herself. And in any case, I hope it doesn’t become a media Thing. That’s the last thing those poor girls need.

Ok, maybe she didn’t try to kill herself but was cutting, which is a thing that some girls her age do. In any case, it was a cry for help and I hope she gets it. The worst day of my life was when I was 14, so I feel for her. Dunno about her mother, but that father of hers…yikes.

Yeah, cutting sounds very plausible in this case. There’s a fairly good wiki article on Self Harm.

That’s about the age when we had a scare with my youngest. His older brother moved out of the house and we hadn’t been paying attention and he felt alone. The parent of one of his friends came over and told us that he was thinking of harming himself. We had to put effort in making sure he was being made to feel valuable.

There have also been other shooting incidents between the Turks and the Russians and Syrian Government in Syria.

Don’t know about lions and tigers, but the local area has had a few cougar sightings over the past 30 years.

Back in 1998, there were a large number of sightings, just outside the beltway. There was never any public statement that it was found.

A cougar is roaming the suburbs of Northern Virginia. Has been for weeks, maybe even months. Earl Hodnett knows this - he’s the one tracking it. He also knows being a cougar hunter isn’t quite what it’s cracked up to be.
*snip*
That is what Hodnett believes he is pursuing: an illegal pet on the loose - a quick, resourceful, unusual pet, but definitely not a wild or overly dangerous one, a cat looking for a fight.
*snip*
“I’d really like to see it,” he said. “I feel a little cheated.”

WaPo - Mt Lion Sightings 1998

And in 2014, there were reported sighting in Alexandria and Fairfax County areas.

WTOP - 2014 Cougar Sightings

NPR - 2014 Cougar Sightings

Right now, in the creek beds and forested areas between Vienna and Reston, there is a young bear. It mostly raids suburban houses for bird feeders and dog food. It has been extremely lucky to, so far anyway, not catch a car, tangle with some dogs, or bump into a crazy homeowner who wants to shoot him a bear rug.

hi

As everyone in Nebraska predicted, outgoing Gov. Pete Ricketts (B-illionaire) is now seeking the nomination to replace outgoing Senator Ben Sasse, who has taken a job over the protestations of students at the University of Florida.

When Ricketts condemned alleged sexual assaulter Charles Herbster and dumped millions into Jim Pillen’s (R-acist) campaign against state senator Carol Blood (D-ecent), the die was cast.

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts to seek US Senate appointment (KETV, ABC Omaha)

“This decision is the result of many hours of prayer and family discussions,” Ricketts said in a statement. “For me, it came down to a single question: How can I best serve the people of Nebraska and advance our conservative values? In Congress, we’re in a fight for the future of our nation, and it’s a fight we have to win. We must cut taxes, strengthen public safety and our national security, and protect our most sacred freedoms.”

The Nebraska democrats came out swinging after the announcement. Party chair Jane Kleeb called it “the state’s most obvious pay-to-play case.”

“Ricketts bought this U.S. Senate seat. He tried to win against Sen. Ben Nelson with his parents’ money in 2006 and the voters rejected him two-to-one,” Kleeb said in a statement.

Via KSID-AM (Sidney, Nebr.):

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Ludovic Michaud was driving around the scenic red rock landscapes of Utah’s Arches National Park on a windy spring day in 2020 when something unthinkable happened: A metal gate whipped around, sliced through the passenger door of his car and decapitated his new 25-year-old wife, Esther Nakajjigo.

The tragic accident is now the subject of a wrongful death lawsuit Michaud and Nakajjigo’s family are pursuing, in which they argue that the U.S. Park Service was negligent and did not maintain the gates at the entrances and exits to the parks, leading to Nakajjigo’s death.

In opening statements Monday in Salt Lake City, attorneys representing Michaud and Nakajjigo’s family said they were seeking $140 million in damages from the government.

The family’s lawsuit claims when the national parks reopened in April 2020 after being shuttered due to COVID-19, rangers at the national park in Utah didn’t secure the gate in place, which in effect “turned a metal pipe into a spear that went straight through the side of a car, decapitating and killing Esther Nakajjigo.”

United States attorneys do not dispute that park officials shouldered blame, but argued the amount the family should be awarded is far less and called into questions the ways in which the damages being sought were calculated. They said claims by the family’s lawyers that Nakajjigo, who was 25 at the time of her death, was on track to be a non-profit CEO shortly were too speculative to be used as a basis for damages.

Walker conceded, acknowledging that his campaign had fallen short and expressing gratitude to his team. The Republican explicitly thanked election officials who ensured the runoff was managed effectively, quelling concerns he might refuse to accept the result.

“I don’t want any of you to stop believing in America,” Walker told supporters. “I want you to believe in America and continue to believe in the constitution and believe in our elected officials … Always, always cast your vote no matter whatever is happening.”

The love of Russia and a dream of a union (even with its Soviet version) never died in the postwar Nazi scene, where the Strasserite-like opinion gained weight for obvious reasons (as an alternative to the failed Hitlerism). The GDR also encouraged them. Hence Franke-Gricksch’s “Brotherhood”, although his pro-Soviet sympathies didn’t save him when he was executed in Moscow in 1952. Then there was Otto Remer of the July ‘44 plot infamy, who co-founded the Socialist Reich Party which avoided criticism of the Soviet Union (“The party had received some financing from the Soviet Union, and worked with the Communist Party of Germany, whose aim was the destabilisation of the West German state.”)

Not the same.

The Delicious History of the Halifax Donair (Food Network Canada)

Unless you’re a native Bluenoser, you may never have tasted this popular late-night snack, and experienced the unavoidable drip of garlicky donair sauce down your chin. The sloppy sandwich is a pita filled with spit roasted shaved beef, served with tomatoes and onions, slathered in the signature sauce.

“It’s spicy, eaten normally at midnight,” says Alain Bossé, a top chef from Pictou, Nova Scotia and ambassador of all things culinary in Atlantic Canada. “After a long night out, you line up at a pizza corner in Halifax. It’s a great hangover food!”

As the story goes, the Halifax donair was first invented in the 1970s by Peter Gamoulakos. Originally from Greece, he started selling Greek gyros (a pita stuffed with grilled lamb and tzatziki) from his restaurant located off the Bedford Highway. But the sandwich just didn’t jive with the East Coast’s “meat and potatoes” palate.

Swapping lamb for beef, the brothers whipped up a sweet “donair sauce” and tried again. This time, however, a feeding frenzy erupted and Halifax’s signature dish was born. The late-night favourite has become so popular that in 2015, Halifax city council voted to make it the city’s official food.

Via Jo Cooks, how to make Halifax Donair (my wife got a private recipe in North Sydney, Nova Scotia—the restaurant owner makes his own special donair and gave my wife his recipe).

This Halifax Donair is a true Canadian Treasure and the official food of Halifax. But you don’t have to go to Halifax to enjoy one, you can now make it right at home. With bold flavors, easy to follow steps and convenient ingredients, the Donair will become a guaranteed family favorite!

In the case of the recipe my wife got, it starts with ground beef that you kneed certain spices and herbs into, roll into a loaf, then bake. Meanwhile you make the spicy garlic sauce, slice up the donair loaf and drizzle the sauce on it either in a sandwich, on a pizza (with or without pineapple), or on a plate with vegetables.

According to that fellow, there are a number of individual recipes for donair.

‘I’m Pissed’: Laura Ingraham Lashes Out at Republican Leadership Following Herschel Walker’s Defeat

During Tuesday’s Ingraham Angle, Fox News called the race for Warnock.

“We felt this coming,” Ingraham told guest Mollie Hemingway. “To me, it never felt like the Senate Republicans wanted this guy in office. He was a Trump pick and they didn’t like that.”

The Fox News host proceeded to throw shade a Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel after she oversaw the GOP’s poor midterm showing.

“We don’t change anything,” Ingraham continued. “We have the same people in place in leadership, same people in place apparently at the RNC, perhaps that’s not changing. But we just keep doing the same thing over and over again. I’m pissed tonight, frankly. I’m mad.”

Hemingway responded by calling the situation “offensive.”

“It’s really offensive for Republican voters, for Republican donors,” Hemingway said. “I mean, you look at what happened since the midterm elections where you had a Senate that basically responded to those disappointing midterm losses by doing nothing other than sabotaging their own base. What is the case for voting Republican for the Senate after these midterms? I don’t think one was even attempted to be made. And yet, nothing seems to be changing.”

Trump Fumes After Jury Convicts His Business of Criminal Tax Fraud: ‘New York City Is a Hard Place to Be Trump’

A jury in Manhattan found two separate Trump Organization companies guilty of tax fraud charges over the falsifying of business records. Prosecutors argued former company CFO Allen Weisselberg received fringe benefits dating back 15 years that were designed to evade paying taxes.

Trump and his family were not named in the case, but the former president raged at the verdict in a statement he released Tuesday evening.

“MANHATTAN WITCH HUNT!” Trump wrote.

Disappointed with the verdict in Manhattan, but will appeal. After looking at millions of pages of documents, over many years, much to the detriment of record setting murder and other forms of violent crime that are taking place in New York City, the Government was able to get an employee to ‘plea’ in order for a very reduced sentence.

This case was about Allen Weisselberg committing tax fraud on his personal tax returns, etc., with he and every witness repeatedly testifying that President Trump and the Trump Family knew nothing about his actions, which he admits were done solely for his own benefit, and with no benefit to the two companies.

Why would Corporations, which knew nothing about Weisselberg’s personal tax returns, be prosecuted for that person’s conduct? There was RELIANCE by us on a then highly respected and expensive accounting firm, and law firm, to do this work. The accounting firm also did his personal returns, which we are not even allowed to legally view.

You better watch out, you better not drive, we’re telling you why: SantaCon is coming to town.

It’s that time of year when thousands of drunk Santas take on Manhattan’s bars in an epic, joyous — and sometimes literal crawl.

A $15 ticket gains Kris Kringle impersonators access to 64 bars on Saturday. The festivities are set to kick off at 10 a.m. at Broadway and 40th Street.

Costumes are required to partake in the event, whether that be a classic Santa suit, an elf getup, or anything that projects Christmas.

“So don your gay apparel, bake all your cookies, and practice sliding down the chimney a few times, because SantaCon will be here before you know it!” organizers enthused on the SantaCon site.

And yet, nothing seems to be changing.”

here’s why (electoral-vote.com):

once again, Trump has survived what should be a career-ending moment. And it barely took 48 hours before the most prominent Republicans in the country were kowtowing to him once again. … Trump commands the base, and the base commands many of the conference members, and so, ipso facto, Trump commands McCarthy and McConnell. That dynamic will end when Trump dies, and it might end if Trump is convicted of crimes, or if Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) seizes control of the Party. We have no doubt that the two minority leaders would be relieved to see any or all of these three things come to pass, but until then, they will keep puckering up. (Z)

This will smooth the confirmation of Biden nominees, most critically federal judges. The Senate will spend the next two years confirming as many Biden judicial nominees as possible, and hopefully break Trump’s record for confirmations in one four year term. Fingers crossed, a Supreme Court seat will become vacant before 2025. I would encourage Justice Sotomayor to consider retirement even though she is “only” 68, because who knows when after the next two years a Democratic President will be allowed to fill a Supreme Court vacancy. Although conservatives are constantly changing the definition of what it means to be “a conservative “, Bush was a conservative, using the definition in the early 2000s: pro-war/hawkish, pro-Israel, anti-choice, openly devout Christian, tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations, anti-gay marriage, pro-military spending and build up, and big government spender (on anything and everything as long as it doesn’t benefit the middle class and poor, minorities, children, vulnerable, etc).

I think he was serious about going home to SF and playing for the Giants. $360 million is a huge deal, and I’m surprised it wasn’t higher. Then again, it was more than $140 million above what the Yanks were offering before the season on a 7 year deal.

Of course, having a record year and MVP season and nearly winning triple crown all while setting the AL HR record dating back to 1961 and Roger Maris all played a role in this.

He may have been serious, but the Yankees were never going to let him do that, unless he had literally made up his mind not to do so already. I don’t think 9/$360M is a huge overpay for Judge, given what they have gotten from him already; he may never produce at this season’s level again, but that’s what these big contracts are for, to reward players who have produced absolutely insane seasons on criminally underpaid contracts.

I usually lower the flags in the middle of the night because I’m normally asleep by sunrise. Because I went out just before dawn, parents and their little children were going to the two bus stops at the park (my village of 128 is divided between two school districts).

Parents were staring at me lowering the park flags. “What, the hippie socialist is the guy who does this? Who knew?” It’s like I grew three heads.

I mean, it’s not like the flags lower themselves, and my name is on the village newsletter as the flag committee chairman.

Do you carry the scythe in the dark?

I’m not sure what is more disappointing: that the GQP and right wing media actually thought Walker (R-Texas Georgia) was worthy of being a candidate or the fact that 1.72 million Georgians voted for him.

It bears repeating that 1.72 million Georgians voted for that idiot for one reason and one reason only: The Party told them to do it. I’m sure, if they felt they had a choice in the matter, they wouldn’t have voted for him.

I’m not saying it was an overpay (even though the money is ridiculously obscene by any objective measure). But I think he might have taken slightly less than what SF was offering though we don’t know what they were offering or if it just was Yankees negotiating against themselves since SF was never going to give Judge that kind of money.

But here’s a thought experiment. Just think of the numbers Judge could put up in that SF ballpark.

Heinrich XIII, Prince of Reuss was arrested today in German anti-terror operation

So if a president has “absolute immunity”, let’s play this out.

Biden than can go to the supreme court, kill or have someone else kill all the conservative justices. Then pardon the person he had kill them or just be immune himself. Put up the names of the people he wants on the court. Then threaten any who vote against his picks with death until he gets what he wants.

How would “absolute immunity” be any different from a totalitarian despot?

You’re somewhere in Europe, facing up to ten years in prison if convicted on charges of rioting and conspiracy in a trial due to start next spring in Los Angeles.

But you’ve got a far-right fashion brand to promote and a tough-guy image to project. You need to constantly post on your multiple Telegram channels without coughing up evidence of where you are. How about an ocelot?

Bobcat (red lynx) are pretty widespread in the US and edge into urban areas if they can find habitat. Smaller than the other lynx, but still average about 20 lbs. Probably a lot more manageable than trying to handle a cougar or jaguar.

As regards those two occasionally useful idiots, yes. Arguably, the most important result is procedural: With a formal majority in the Senate, the Democrats now control all the committees, and that means they do not have to play procedural shenanigans with Republicans to get things like nominations out of committees and onto a floor vote. The process of confirming judicial appointees should pick up a remarkable amount of steam with this win.

Ketanji’s vote was held up because the Senate Judiciary committee had deadlocked 11-11 for approval for advancing her nomination. The modern GOP is an unremitting disgrace.

I wonder if there is anybody in GA who voted for Walker who is at least a little bit embarrassed by their voting for the most unqualified senatorial candidate that has ever stood for election, someone who didn’t eve reside in their state, someone who lied almost as much as Trump, who couldn’t even state how many children he sired, who lied about how many abortions he paid for, who abused the women in his life, who could barely even form sentences that were understandable, let alone be grammatically correct.

In prior races, someone like Walker would have been consigned to the bottom of candidate list where all the nutjobs, Birchers, conspiracy theorists, and midnight radio listeners resided. In today’s GA, he nearly won.

I have nothing to say with regard to Ted Cruz and his daughter’s struggles. I feel that non-adult children shouldn’t be used to score political points, and I hope her family is able to get her the care she needs in safety and privacy. I don’t care how big of an asshole Rafael Theodore Cruz is, his kids aren’t worth it.

It is possible (likely?) that his daughter’s problems stem from his behavior. But then few would know the internal dynamics of that family and the effect on her mental stability.

Trump’s lawyer is arguing that the remedy is impeachment.

I’m not sure what is more disappointing: the GQP and right wing media actually thought Walker (R-Texas Georgia) was worthy of being a candidate or the fact that 1.72 million Georgians voted for him.

Clearly. If Walker lost in a landslide, the GQP might start reconsidering its views. OTOH, Goldwater lost in a landslide and that only inspired the GOP to work on changing the nation, rather than changing its policies.

It bears repeating that 1.72 million Georgians voted for that idiot for one reason and one reason only: The Party told them to do it. I’m sure, if they felt they had a choice in the matter, they wouldn’t have voted for him.

They did have a choice — Walker wasn’t imposed on them; they voted for him in the primary.

The sun is rising here.

I came to the conclusion years ago that “people are people”. As a population it might work to stick labels on groups of people for following a specifically selected behavior or opinion. But once you drill down to individuals you find combinations of traits or opinions that simply seem to defy the generic stereotypes that tie themselves to the “conservative” or “liberal” labels. (just as an example)

Which overall makes me much more pragmatic about dealing with individuals and valuing character above most other things - since I believe/hope that if push comes to shove the person will do the right thing and not be driven by the emotional politics. Which I think also is why I particularly dislike the cynical hypocrisy I see displayed in the media and politics.

Seriously take note what is not discussed. Imagine if Herschel moved to Georgia, ran for state senate, became a champion of mental health treatment and anti-domestic violence initiatives, made amends to his many children and their mothers. It could be a redemption story for the ages.

And of course that will never happen, it would take maturity, character, self-awareness.

Christian correctly says Herschel should not have run, and why did he? Because Trump told him he should.

One thing we should never forget: Walker likely has CTE — it may not be possible for him to take any of those steps because of his very profound brain damage. It is the GOP leadership that is to blame for this.

Health officials gain guardianship of baby whose parents refused ‘vaccinated blood’ transfusion

New Zealand high court case has become a focus of protests from anti-vaxxers

theguardian.com

Here in the USA there’s a well-established procedure for hospitals to go to court to get temporary custody of young minors in order to give a lifesaving blood transfusion. This is because Jehovah’s Witness parents would refuse blood transfusions for their minor children. (Older minor children might be able to express a preference under questioning by a judge.)

Back in the late 1990s, there was a case where a drunk driver hit a JW woman, who was badly injured but refused a blood transfusion. She later died. The driver was convicted of manslaughter, even though the defense argued that the woman contributed to her own death by refusing medical treatment. Well, yeah, but the dude was drunk to start out with. Hard case, he got 10 years.

Brian Houston was the former senior pastor of the Hillsong churches. He was forced out earlier this year, in part because of this trial (which was coming up) and because it turned out he’d been wandering around drunkenly and accosting a woman in her hotel room. Anyway…

Brian Houston was told father would ‘surely be incarcerated’ if rape of boy went to court, trial hears

Victim’s great-aunt tells court Hillsong founder spoke to lawyer about father’s crime but it was not reported to police

The Hillsong church founder Brian Houston spoke with a barrister about his father’s rape of a child and was told if the matter went to court “his father would surely be incarcerated”, but the offence was not reported to police, a Sydney court has heard.

Brian Houston is on trial for allegedly failing to report the abuse to police after his father confessed in 1999 to sexually assaulting the boy.

He has pleaded not guilty to one charge of concealing a serious indictable offence of another person.

theguardian.com

Brian Houston has said that his father, Frank, was not involved in other churches after this was discovered. I have a Facebook friend who is on record as stating that Frank Houston was offloaded to the church he was in leadership at, around 2000. I believe he may have even testified to that before the Royal Commission, if memory serves.

I will be surprised if Houston gets convicted, though.

Medicare Part D is administered through private insurance plans (costing taxpayers extra money than if it was just administered by Medicare). Running stuff through private companies is definitely conservative. Moreover, typical enrollees have to choose between dozens of different offered plans which vary by state and drugs covered, instead of one plan and one drug list. Additionally, the plan was created with a no-coverage provision when it was adopted (the so-called doughnut hole) which was only closed by the ACA.

Yup very conservative.

As for his foreign policy advisors being African-American, they were distinctly subordinate and never bucked the administration. Maybe not racist, but definitely conservative (conservatism does not require racism, though it is frequently present).

Yeah, I’ve encountered the ignorance on how sexual morals really were in the USSR…

1. There should be no unnecessarily early development of sexual activity in the proletarian environment.
2. It is necessary to abstain from sexual activity before marriage, Marriage only when social and biological maturity is reached.
3. Sexual connection only as the final stage of deep multi-faceted sympathy and attachment to the object of sexual love.
4. Sexual intercourse should be only the final link in the chain of deep and complicated experiences currently connecting the lovers.
5. Sexual intercourse must not repeat often.
6. Do not change the sexual object often. Less sexual diversity.
7. Love must be monogamous, monandric (one wife, one husband)
8. With each sexual intercourse, it is necessary to always remember about possible birth of a child - in general, one should remember about offspring.
9. Sexual selection must be built according to the class-based revolutionary-proletarian expediency. No flirting, courting, coquetry and other elements of sexual conquest should be a part of a love relationship.
10. There should be no jealousy.
11. There should be no sexual perversions.
12. The class, in the interests of revolutionary expediency, has a right to intervene in the sexual life of its members: the sexual should always obey the class, never be a problem for the latter, serve it in all ways.
— Brochure by Aron Borisovich Zalkind “Revolution and youth”, published by Communist University of Ya. M. Sverdlov, 1924.

At the time of his landslide loss, most of the voters were still fresh off the New Deal and World War 2. The GOP had not yet started down weakening education and inserting religion in politics to grasp power.

The USS Arizona and most other large warships of the time had a womens restroom, even though the crews were all male. The extra head was for the use of women who might come aboard during social events or who would be working aboard while the ship was in port. I don’t know what use was made of it while the ship was at sea, but space was at a premium and extra storage is a good possibility.

A friend is good friends with Spicer’s sister. The sister is very embarrassed over her bro.

She should be. He beclowned himself repeatedly for a career criminal.
Trump rubbed his nose in it and all he did was ask for more as he lied to the American people.
And he’s worried about people judging him because he says he’s a Christian?
I’d be more concerned with my lying and support of a racist prick who loves to hurt and torture people by any means.

I dated a girl who lived in an all-women’s dormitory at University of Arizona in Tucson in the early 80’s They had a strict “No males between midnight and 8am” policy.

There was one men’s room off the lobby and there was always a line in front of it at 11.30. Because the policy was more “no men in the hallways between 12-8”

Elections to national office (Congress, Presidency) have to be subject to federal regulation or they cannot be valid.

States can do what they want with their own in-state elections.

At least that is how I see it.

The extra head was for the use of women who might come aboard during social events or who would be working aboard while the ship was in port. I don’t know what use was made of it while the ship was at sea, but space was at a premium and extra storage is a good possibility.

We had a couple female heads on the USS America (CV-66) and the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) for visiting dignitaries or women in transit or temporary assignment.

When there were no women on the ships, the heads went unused.

On the other hand, there was no female head on the USS Saratoga (CV-43). When we embarked women for the final Med cruise, a head was designated women only next to their berthing area. (That berthing area was probably the worst berthing compartment on the ship: 03 Level, Frame F, directly forward of the forward catapult brake room.)

Goldwater: The guy who pandered to the John Birch Society and the Klan for votes.

At the time of his landslide loss, most of the voters were still fresh off the New Deal and World War 2. The GOP had not yet started down weakening education and inserting religion in politics to grasp power.

As for Eisenhower, he’d previously been a member of the largest socialist organisation in the USA (the military), and promoted the most expensive and largest public works project in the history of the nation (the Interstate Highway System) paid for with tax money and bonds. Not really conservative.

Goldwater had his issues, but he saw the dangers of the religious right and was fairly progressive in other ways (don’t have to be straight to be in the military, just have to shoot straight).

Eisenhower picked Nixon as his VP.

Both of them are rolling in their graves over what the GOP has become since 1980.

I suppose I am conflating Republican with conservative, which is a bit of a leap. I’m also drinking a bit to help me get some sleep on my flight to Hawaii; probably shouldn’t be posting on a public forum 😂.

For a few moments in a long time I was happy to listen to Wingnut Hate Radio. They don’t get why they lost, blaming Ronna or their campaigning infrastructure or not being on TikTok. Not one moment of introspection that it’s the ideas, the conspiracies, the hate that is being rejected. But the best part is that people are emailing Charlie Kirk in large numbers proud of the fact they didn’t vote. They shit all over the system with rampant cynicism and when their constituents act on that cynicism Kirk criticises them for acting upon it.

The disconnect is quite amazing.

Last night my wife and I watched a Communist cinematic blockbuster horror movie “Cave of the Living Dead” (Yugoslavia, 1964).

Synopsis: A bunch of young women go missing in an isolated part of Yugoslavia. Suspicion falls on a mad scientist in a castle when his young female assistant and male caretaker inform a police inspector in the capital. He is dispatched to quell the rumours of suspicious and fearful rural bumpkins, only to find out the disappearances are murders and the murderer is a vampire. (1:26:21, English dub)

There still needs to be federal oversight. Otherwise, states could ban people from voting in state elections because of race or gender or religion (or lack thereof). Of course the Roberts’ court doesn’t object to efforts to suppress blacks from voting in federal elections.

Several offices and conference rooms in Twitter’s building have been converted into small sleeping quarters as Mr Musk attempts to stamp control on the social media company.

But San Francisco building inspectors have launched an investigation into the matter and have contacted Twitter management to set up a site inspection, according to local media reports.

Minor correction:

Eisenhower didn’t really “pick” Richard Nixon as his VP running-mate in 1952, by most accounts, he had Tricky Dick foisted on him by the GOP leadership as a sop to the hard-right Red-baiters in the Party, that era’s equivalent of the MAGA-heads. Ike was generally underwhelmed by Nixon, but, political novice and half-hearted partisan as he was, just went along with it.
