Sue Dinkelacker (née Beatie). Sue matriculated from St. Andrew’s school in Joburg in 1980 and qualified as a helicopter pilot a few years later, flying commercially for Court Helicopters until around 2000, when she moved to Malaysia and then New Zealand, where she flies choppers to this day, in the aero-medical industry.

Sue achieved 10,000 hours on helicopters today; an incredible achievement.

Manchin said guidelines issued by the Treasury Department allow manufacturers in Europe and other countries to bypass requirements that significant portions of EV batteries be produced in North America.

The climate law, officially known as the Inflation Reduction Act, “is first and foremost an energy security bill,” Manchin said, adding that “the EV tax credits were designed to grow domestic manufacturing and reduce our reliance on foreign supply chains for the critical minerals needed to produce EV batteries.″

Manchin’s bill comes as Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm and White House climate adviser Ali Zaidi are set to attend the Washington, D.C., Auto Show on Wednesday to highlight the Biden administration’s efforts to boost EVs and related infrastructure.

The White House declined to comment Wednesday on Manchin’s bill, but the measure by the West Virginia lawmaker is unlikely to gain traction in the narrowly divided Senate, where Democrats hold a slim majority. During the midterm election campaign, Republicans criticized Biden and other Democrats for supporting electric vehicles, citing their relative high costs and batteries that are currently made in China.

46
Charles Johnson  Jan 25, 2023 • 12:59:48pm

I think I discovered the reason LGF was down for most of the night - when I switched the DNS to Cloudflare, CF set up all the records automatically and I just assumed it was right because it looked OK at a glance. But I think they got the A record for the ‘www’ subdomain wrong, and it was caught in a redirect loop trying to load a page over and over until the server just crashed. When I switched back to the Hosting Matters DNS that stopped. But something else is still going on because it’s very slow.

Looks like I’m back on lgf after (at least hopefully) the entertainment.

I was getting lots of 503’s with the Cloudflare errors of 522, 524 and 525. With an occasionally 520. Along with a cool diagram from Cloudflare each time, reassuring me that my browser and their edge server (Ashburn, Va) were fine, but that the lgf server wasn’t talking to me.

Still getting 17 hops with timeout on the tracert.

Response time currently varies, but seems to be mostly workable.

I saw a comment today concerning Elon. It’s painfully accurate. It said that Elon Musk’s greatest fault is not his rampant fascination with validating Nazis and white supremacists, nor his total disregard for real world ramifications of his “free speech” lie.

His greatest fault is that he is painfully not funny. Like many other right wingers, he tries to be funny all the time and fails miserably. There is no empathy or irony in his humor. It is punch-down snark at its 7th grade bully worst. Elon is the guy who tries over and over to be funny and be recognized as a great comedian,, and is simply not even close.

Yeah, the host was switching to a different web server, and it was misconfigured for a short time to download the web page source code instead of displaying it. If you’d opened it you would have just seen some code, it was nothing to worry about.

We’re still not sure exactly what went wrong. Hosting Matters owner said it was one of the weirdest things she’s seen.

What fixed it: she recompiled PHP 8.1 for the litespeed web server and double checked config files and reset the server’s handlers, and boom it started working.

I’m constantly cursing out Siri. It’s genuinely shocking how awful it is. So if Siri pulls a Skynet like the cartoon references, I’m screwed.

Then again, Siri is so consistently shitty, it would mistranslate its own order to start the apocalypse as “Stat the Pack of Lips” and then run down sales of those wax lips candies you see at Halloween.

I know everyone gets paranoid about digital assistants listening to your every move, but I hope to God Apple is recording my every interaction with Siri. Just about every other interaction is a complete fuck up.

Example from today: I say into the watch “Call Collingswood Music”. It then says “Do you want to call Collingswood Music at XYX street?”, which is accompanied by a read out of the above, along with “Yes” and “No” buttons.

If you press “Yes”, it then takes you to the band Yes’s Wikipedia page, because it’s seeing “music” in the initial request.

Every.

re: #112 Mattand

Every.

Fucking.

Time.

Siri is not good, is what I’m saying.

I have google assistant enabled on the Sonos sound bar on the kitchen tv so that when I notice I need something I’m low on or out of I can just tell it to add it to the “grocery list”. It’ll be on my phone when I’m at the store.
It does a pretty good job at understanding me. It does give the “I’m awake” chime at odd times when we’re watching TV in the front room. So far it hasn’t said “I can’t do that Jeff.”

Hitler vibes. He had his Beer Hall Putsch in 1923, went to prison, and then became Prime Minister 10 years later. Everything is accelerated in this modern age; Trump could
return in 2024 ( his father died at 93 so he likely has many years left) or it could be a mini-me such as DeathSantis, or Abbott or Hawley.

My son was noticing that the most recent season of Rick & Morty had a lot of episodes about accountability and personal responsibility. Like the writers knew.

It may have been Roiland saying he’s being a better person now through Rick. It just doesn’t help, of course.

So I decided I was going to start buying chicken whole because it probably saves money giving me an excuse to have more knives and make delicious stock. Dumb me.

You can get a tasty and delicious whole-roasted rotisserie chicken at Costco for $5.99.

I can’t find a whole chicken for less than $16.

This is like the lesson I learned when making homemade BBQ sauce and tan tan ramen: you can spend a whole lot of time and money only to make something equivalent to what you can buy in the store for much less time and money.

Learned that ZFS on Linux does not behave as expected from prior experience on Solaris and FreeBSD. The pool of both drives only sees one and refusesd to mount the other.

Reinstall back to Ext4 so I can have my 500 gb M.2 boot ssd as / and my 2TB spinning rust as /home. I’m reminded that while they’re “easier” (for various definitions of easier) to use, the *BSD’s are still better unixen under the surface - except of course for the driver situation. Mint, OTOH, has working WiFi6 drivers and doesn’t have the SNAP silliness of Ubuntu prime. Now if I can just get Another Raw Therapee to build…

Titans and Doom Patrol, the DC Comics dramas that were originally developed to help launch the former DC Universe streaming service, are coming to an end.

The current fourth seasons of both of the Greg Berlanti-produced HBO Max dramas will be their last, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. Sources say producers on both Titans and Doom Patrol saw the writing on the wall amid all the changes with DC Entertainment and plotted their current seasons with proper endings so as to not leave fans in a lurch.

Imo yes
Everybody already knows who’s doing this

Except the maga zealots

There are two reasons not to negotiate.
One is, well cause you don’t.
The other is cause all these issues are irrelevant to the debt limit and the premise should not be accepted.

Why not tie the debt limit to climate change
Or the keystone pipeline
Or the Hyde amendment
Or crt
Or wokeness
Or the doc search at mar-a-grifto

They all have as much relevance
