Nice to be home again…sunny, 65…pleasant and warm. When we got to Petaluma it was 92 degrees outside…when we got to the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge it was 67 and there was a blanket of fog across the bridge - you could see the two bridge towers and Sutro antenna behind it poking out. Temp dropped a degree every 15 seconds as we crossed and it was 62 degrees at the toll booth.

We call that Outside Lands weather as the concert was this weekend.

re: #312 Shiplord Kirel: Fan of Big Bird, Bert, and Ernie

Jews with typical small arms of the time might well have repelled the first group of collaborationist police who came to round them.up. With luck, they might do the same to the local militia who arrived next. They would not have stopped the panzer grenadiers who came after that.
It took the largest armies ever raised and a 3 year non-stop bloodbath to finally crush Hitlers troops and free the surviving captives.

Sort of how the Defence of the Polish Post Office went down in 1939.

On the day of the attack, fifty-six people were in the Post Office, mostly employees.

The attack was initially police and paramilitaries. As the resisters held out repelling first the frontal attack on the Post Office and then the sappers from the sides, the Wehrmacht opened fire on the complex with howitzers while a battleship in the harbour pounded them with naval artillery.

The Germans finally drove out the defenders by pouring a railcar full of gasoline into the main building’s basement and setting it alight. They shot the man coming out carrying a white flag of surrender.

After the others surrendered, the Gestapo arrested them and some four hundred other people and tortured them during their interrogations. Most of the people involved in the resistance were tried in a military tribunal and immediately executed afterwards.

Six escaped from the Post Office, though two were captured.

The idea that Jewish people with small arms could possibly resist captors in a concentration camp is ludicrous on its face, and even insults the intelligence of Republicans’ own supporters.

Chris Geidner @chrisgeidner.bsky.social

On Monday, Abha Khanna and other lawyers will be arguing to a federal court in Alabama that the state’s congressional map remains illegal under the Voting Rights Act.
As she told me, Alabama’s behavior shows “the need for Section 2 is greater than ever, alive and well.”
lawdork.com

“…There’s no dispute this is not a performing map, there’s no dispute this does not provide the remedy that the district court called for. It is disheartening, to say the least, that the legislators of Alabama — even upon multiple defeats in court — could not stomach the idea of even entertaining a second opportunity for Black voters.

It is even more disheartening, that instead of just saying the legislators couldn’t get the votes to do it, “Court, now it’s up to you,” they are stridently going back to the court to say, “You got it wrong in the first place. And not only are we not able to draw the map, we’re not willing to draw that map, and we don’t think should make us draw that map in the first place. And we’re going to take this up again. And we’re going to we’re going to fight you on every ruling that you already made. We’re going to fight you on every finding that have already been established by this court and affirmed by the Supreme Court, because come hell or high water, Alabama will not provide Black voters an equal opportunity to elect their candidate of choice.”

Youtube removed the ability to add a Short to a playlist, of course, when it made it unable to play a Short as a regular video.

So now there is no way to make a Playlist that is made of Shorts.

Unless I’m wrong. Anyone know how?

Youtube also announced that they will roll out even more changes to Shorts and regular videos.

Apparently Youtube doesn’t want to feed other sites’ traffic, taking people away from Youtube.

So Youtube is going to change things about links people put into their videos.

They are doing this under the color of protecting users from scammers… but it also keeps people from clicking away from Youtube.

Youtube is already the #1 streaming source ON TELEVISION. Not on computer screens, but on regular TVs (obviously “smart” TVs).

The other day I noticed that the WSJ had a front page headline about Disney having to raise their streaming prices because so many people have canceled Disney+. The headline obviously played into the right-wing anti-Disney movement.

In reality, the problem is across the board for streaming services.

Besides Youtube, the other service in ascendance (but not as quickly as Youtube) is Prime Video.

Other streamers are likely to need consolidation over the next couple of years. The ones that are losing billions of dollars, like Peacock, need to find a new life.

Anyway, Alphabet is really pushing monetization niches in Youtube and if that means making Youtube less friendly for us old-timers then so be it, I guess.

Either the church my ex-bf goes to is the closest to Anderson’s cult outfit, or it’s the UMC next to Arizona State. I’d actually bet money that if we were able to pry open Anderson’s otherwise empty cranium, he’s reacting to something done at ex-bf’s church, because they’ve been very openly supportive of LGBTQIA+ involvement in United Methodist life. This UMC and another up in Fountain Hills are regularly attacked by other, much more conservative churches who say they’re not Christian. Yay.

(Ex-bf used to be Catholic and one of his brothers is a priest. But the Catholic church got far too conservative for him and that, combined with the continued drumbeat of priestly sex abuse scandals, sent him off to this UMC.)

thought I’d get around to watching season 13 (?) of Doctor Who with the female doctor. What an absolute clusterfuck. Story starts with the Doctor and assistant having to escape from some death trap created by a creature who we later discover is actually trying to save a human he’s “bonded” to. Then we jump to a scene where some psychic is imprisoned in a force field of some kind, which then breaks down while it is being checked by some security personnel, because hey, why not send two people to do what a robotic entity could do way more cheaply and safely. Then the universe is being eaten by a “flux” and some of the potato-head aliens whose name I can’t remember—Silorians, maybe?—seem to be enjoying the idea that the flux is eating the universe, in spite of the fact that they are presumably part of our universe. Oh, and I forgot there was some brief scene set in 1810 where some workers are mining something. I gave up after the potato-headed aliens. It just felt like that Batman movie with Dr. Freeze that was like Batman on crack.

I have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. I am not a huge TV/movie watcher. I do watch a lot of vids on YouTube. I go through a regular thing about dumping Hulu, but then Trump does something and it’s like WHERE’S MY MSNBC?! Oh yeah, that and they had the entire run of Chainsaw Man’s first season and I binge watched it one Friday afternoon/evening. Or you can watch the still somewhat violent but impossibly wholesome (seriously, it is that) Spy x Family, also on Hulu. Or One Punch Man. Or My Hero Academia. All of which are popular Japanese anime set in alternative worlds of various types. But they all have ads. I don’t like the ads. Please stop with the ads. Thanks.

(Chainsaw Man is a very violent and creepy Japanese anime and it’s completely messed up. But it’s a great watch as long as you keep in mind it would very definitely get an R for violence here in the USA.)

ETA: I just turned on Ayman on MSNBC and he was talking about how Kari Lake is going to run for Senate here in Arizona.

Go!

re: #190 Nerdy Fish

I’ve never had a grocery bill even approach $1000. If you’re spending $2800 on groceries, you’re either buying tons of expensive and rare ingredients, or you’re trying to feed a family of 15. Either way, it’s not a crisis normal middle-class people will resonate with.

Tell me what you bought to achieve a $1000 grocery bill.

I had that happen once. A $62 check to pay off American Express was MICR-coded to $620. I bounced five checks as a result. This happened while I was undergoing the final investigation to be cleared to take the Texas Bar. I remember having to go down to First Interstate Bank and tell them bluntly that if they didn’t FIX the problem yesterday, I was not going to be able to take the bar and I would sue them. It got fixed.

Yes! That’s the story I want to hear!

You live in a remote area. You have access to a military Commissary (cheap!) that is quite a trek for you. You do a month’s shopping and pay $600.

It’s not $2800 for a drop in at a Kroger’s is it?

Well, this is my point, that a random fuckwit can post how she spent $2,800 in a single trip to her local Kroger’s and it’s all because of Joe Biden’s Inflation Disaster.

Conservatives lie all the time, and anyone bellyaching about “Biden’s inflation” is either a conservative or a useful idiot for conservatives.

Just some random FYI: To most service sector employees, the phrases “I’m going somewhere else” or “I’ll never come here again” generally will generate no more than an eyeroll and perhaps a insincere faux-apology. Doubly so if you frontload such “threats” by bitching about “I spend/spent X amount of dollars here!” And anybody who tries any variation of “I PAY YOUR SALARY!!!” can fuck all the way off.

It’s pretty easy to fill in the blanks here — this asshole is almost certainly a fascist, and fascists usually view disabled people as defectives that should be purged from society to strengthen the Volk.

KingKenrod  Aug 13, 2023 • 8:50:25pm

I was a daily diet coke drinker - by my guess, I was drinking 8-12 bottles a day, for about 30 years. 500-800 mg caffeine a day by my calculations.

About 4 years ago, I started breaking out in hives, for no apparent reason. I started taking allergy shots, which controlled it (without the shots, the hives would never go away). I kept drinking the diet cokes.

Then last November, I had a small stroke - no disability, just some wonky coordination problems for a few hours. During my hospital stay I resolved to quit drinking diet coke - it took about 7 days to get over over it, had severe headaches from withdrawal.

But I stopped taking the allergy shots too. And guess what? The hives never came back. The hives (and maybe the stroke) were my body’s way of telling me to knock it off with the fucking diet cokes. My diet otherwise hasn’t changed, I still eat stuff with artificial sweeteners, so I’m pretty sure it was the caffeine.

In my case, it’s an elderly guest who likes to bitch at me about things over which I have no control (this week: a broken door lock) that is inconveniencing her. And every time she does this little routine, it’s to growl about how “how much [she] is paying to stay here,” leaving me little choice but to pretend that I care instead of reminding her that we’re a hotel and she’s free to GTFO at her leisure. Now there are a number of factors that can do that but mainlining that much sugar had to be a major factor. I have a dream but I do not think it is possible (and any lawyer tell me if I am wrong). I have read Garland’s letter describing Weiss’ appointment to Special Counsel. He can investigate the Hunter Biden events but also can investigate any other things that come up in that investigation.

What I would love is Weiss to be able to expand the investigation to any relative of a sitting VP or P receiving money for access. Not just Hunter but now include Kushner, Ivanka, and the sons. By making him special councel he could expand it to go after them.

I don’t think this could really happen as special counsel does not have quite the ability to travel far afield like procesutors did with Clinton. Unless Trump/Kushner/ et al. came up in Ukraine briberies. But I can dream.

That’s been the tale in the tech press for awhile now, that China continues to struggle to do more than copy Western chip designs, that Western embargoes have only made that struggle worse since they can’t even order parts directly from foreign chip companies, and all the hair-on-fire stories about China on the precipice of surpassing the West in chip manufacturing ignore that quantity does not equal quality. Basically it’s the same situation we saw in the 20th century, where Western press would lose their minds over every new example of “Soviet superscience” only to then learn that what wasn’t pure propaganda was so far past the safety margin that it was killing men left and right.

It might not even have to include the kids. Turns out that, of course, the original impeachment dealt with trying to bribe Ukraine to get them to investigate Hunter and Burisma. As said at the time::

Specifically, they suggest that Trump was conditioning the release of nearly $391 million in Congressionally approved military aid to Ukraine upon Ukraine’s publicly announcing a criminal probe into, among other things, the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. That probe would necessarily cast a pall on a former director there, Hunter Biden, who is the son of Joe Biden, then the front-runner to become Trump’s Democratic opponent in the next presidential election. (Joe Biden was also the Democratic candidate who was then performing best against Trump in head-to-head straw polls.)

So, if in the course of investigating Hunter, Weiss produced strong evidence that Trump tried to corruptly bribe Ukraine (and we know he did) to connect Hunter and Burisma ina corruptin scandal that did not exist, could he now investigate that as a special counsel? Because I know he would not have been able to do that as a normal DOJ prosecutor.

Maybe my dream has a small chance.

When I was in Myrtle Beach, I came across a Trump store. Couldn’t believe it. So ridiculous. But it is a cult so **shrug**.

Here in Mesa, we had some Boomers in a massive bus parked on the southwest corner of University and Lindsay for a couple of months in the runup to the election. Ironically, the district went Democratic for the first time in something like a half-century. I probably have pictures of that abomination somewhere. And, if memory serves, there was a pop up Trump store on the northeast corner of Brown and Recker at about the same time (which is on the way to my mother’s house). I seem to recall those people had one of those rental sheds (the same kind that pop up during firework season in July and December), the kind you shove all your stuff in at the end of the day and then come back and put it out the next morning. They too disappeared not long after Trump’s election defeat.

And yeah, it is a cult. There are people in the neighborhoods who have Trump flags up, and some of them actually say, “Fuck Joe Biden.” I mean, seriously, people, I watch my language outside of my house because there are kids around here, and then you guys just go full bore with F bombs. Honestly, it strikes me as boilerplate language, that Garland is so done with GQP buffoonery in their “investigations” that he’s giving Weiss carte blanche in writing simply so he can tell the press anytime somebody like Comer whines about Hunter being “shielded” that Weiss has the authority to look anywhere and everywhere the investigation takes him but that does not include random snipe hunts where the evidence does not exist.

No offense, but we’ve been hearing that whole “Garland has wheels within wheels going on, be patient and he’ll take down the whole foul lot.” And then we learned just last month that the FBI was dragging its feet on the NARA requests for getting back documents and only started taking Jan 6th accusations seriously after the Dems held their hearings. There’s a place down the highway about a mile and half that charges $65/night. Of course, the cops show up for drugs and violence nightly and the city has been fighting to shut it down for years…

When I came to town to interview for my first position with this company, I had to stay there for various reasons (not the least of which was my father and step mother had Covid). It was one of the few times I have been very glad to have my CCW permit … O_O

We’re sort of in that twilight period between July 4th and Labor Day, when prices just sort of meander up and down because the corporate sales office is going off what we were doing in terms of business this time last year instead of actually following the trends. Plus we’re not right on the beach so we can’t charge the prices they can, especially when the idiots who’ve never heard of Google Maps get here and realize they’re still a 15-20 min drive from the Oceanfront. When I worked at a hotel on the Oceanfront, prices usually started around $180-200/night for a standard room and could be double that for a suite on a summer weekend.

And yes, there were plenty of morons who’d swear they’d just got done driving 12 hours non-stop, were absolutely bone-tired, and had spent an hour looking for a hotel room in the dead of night…but still thought it was outrageous that we were charging $180/night.

Anti-politician? Trump was very pro-Republican when it came to stuffing SCOTUS and federal courts with right wing (mostly unqualified) judges. He also passed pro-Republican tax cuts for the mega rich and implemented extreme anti-immigration policies (such as separating migrant families, banning migrants from several Muslim countries). He took America out of international agreements which right wingers didn’t like (such as those for climate change).
I don’t see how he was an anti-politician. He wasn’t a politician until he was elected but he did everything the right wing wanted him to do. That’s why they’re still supporting him now, for the most part.

Richy Palalay so closely identifies with his Maui hometown that he had a tattoo artist permanently ink “Lahaina Grown” on his forearms when he was 16.

But a chronic housing shortage and an influx of second-home buyers and wealthy transplants have been displacing residents like Palalay who give Lahaina its spirit and identity.

A fast-moving wildfire that incinerated much of the compact coastal settlement last week has multiplied concerns that any homes rebuilt there will be targeted at affluent outsiders seeking a tropical haven. That would turbo-charge what is already one of Hawaii’s gravest and biggest challenges: the exodus and displacement of Native Hawaiian and local-born residents who can no longer afford to live in their homeland.

They say it wasn’t gas related, but I find that hard to believe.

Five people were killed and several others injured in a house explosion Saturday in Plum, a suburb of Pittsburgh. The explosion destroyed three structures and damaged at least a dozen others, authorities said.

A person who was initially unaccounted for after the explosion was among the five dead, officials said Sunday. Police have not yet publicly identified the victims, but officials said one of the victims was an adolescent.

A little before 10:30 a.m. Eastern time Saturday, 911 dispatchers received a call that multiple houses were on fire due to an explosion. Responding officers and firefighters arrived to find “people trapped under the debris,” Allegheny County officials reported.

Four people were initially confirmed dead in the incident, Allegheny County officials reported on social media. The fifth fatality was confirmed during a Sunday press conference. Three others were hospitalized, two in stable condition and one in critical condition.

In all, 57 firefighters were treated on scene for minor issues — many of them for heat exhaustion.

for what it is worth:

Mike Huwar, president of Peoples Gas, said gas service was shut off to the Rustic Ridge neighborhood by 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Gas crews checked for gas leakages following the explosion and determined the gas system had been “operating as designed.” Huwar said no timeline had been established for returning gas services to the area.

Lol, there is a joke in here somewhere.
I hope those robo-taxis are self cleaning, going to need a few more trees on the rear view mirror.

Ever thought about getting down and dirty in a robotaxi? Want to light up a cig or a joint on the drive home from the club? You’re not alone.

As autonomous vehicles become increasingly popular in San Francisco, some riders are wondering just how far they can push the vehicles’ limits—especially with no front-seat driver or chaperone to discourage them from questionable behavior.

For some, that’s a welcome invitation to test the autonomous vehicles’ limits. Megan, a woman in her 20s, took her first robotaxi ride on a recent late-night excursion. It was also her first time having sex in a driverless vehicle. The Standard is not providing exact dates of the riders’ debauchery to protect their privacy but has verified the rides took place through documentation. Names have been changed because of the riders’ privacy concerns.

Why are we talking about anti-woke people as if they’re brand new? The backlash against the Civil Rights movement has been active since the 1950s. This is just a continuation of the anti-Black racism that has existed in this country since slavery. Nothing is surprising or new.
Our side has to be more aggressive in pushing back. It’s obvious that racists are trying to erase Black people from public spaces and distort the way our history is taught to minimize how racism is understood.

I had an accessible room when I was in NYC some years ago. It was better laid out as there was more walking room around the bed (standard NYC hotel rooms are usually very, very small) and the bathroom was 6x the normal size with a walk in (roll in) shower that was fabulous.

Trump was a puppet. He has no political values other than power. He did what he was “advised” to do by people who are political.

His sheer incompetence led to not advancing his regressive extreme agenda. Putting sycophantic suckups in key positions instead of competent professionals. Putting nepotism picks instead of partisan knowledgeable experts who understand the legislative process. He treated everything as if he was king and his word was final, when it is never that way in the American system of governance.

He spent more time on Twitter than doing his fucking job.
He spent more time golfing than most anyone ever elected to the WH.
He spent more time enriching his businesses and violating the Constitution than anyone else in history.

Each of these were disqualifying and were expected from the outset precisely because he never had any intention of running for the betterment of all Americans. He cared only about enriching himself and the billionaire class.

Where his agenda was most successful was due in large part to McConnell packing the courts on his behalf. Of course, now he’s slamming McConnell despite McConnell being the guy who did more to advance the GOP agenda than anyone else in the past 20 years.

That was just a talking point and grift magnet from the very get-go.

Anybody who, as DJT claims, has “experience with large-scale building projects” would have immediately appointed a planning commission to draft design and engineering studies, economic and environmental impact statements as well as preparing a proposed budget and timetable.

GOP lawmakers cited Noah’s Ark to justify harming refugees with circular saw blades

Never trust lawyers who write, “If one takes the Book of Genesis literally…”

For the second time in a week, a Biblical myth has made its way into a courtroom. This time, Noah’s Ark was cited in a brief meant to justify Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s latest attempt to kill off refugees.

You may have seen in the news that circular saw blades were inserted between buoys in the Rio Grande. Besides the senseless cruelty of it all, the Rio Grande is under federal control, not state control, so now there’s a legal battle over whether Texas officials have any right to place the buoys and death blades in the river.

So how does the Bible enter the picture?

In an amicus brief filed on behalf of several Republican lawmakers by the Texas Public Policy Foundation on Wednesday, attorneys attempted to counter the government’s claim that the river is navigable (even if some parts currently aren’t) by claiming the Book of Genesis says the entire world was once covered with water. By that logic, the Republicans argued, the government could claim jurisdiction over everything. That would be silly! So take that, Dems!

What’s even more troubling is that the Christian lawmakers are doing all this to justify harming people risking their lives to cross the border in an effort to find safety. The GOP doesn’t give a damn what Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount, but they will break out their bibles in an instant if it means hurting brown people.

Firearms are leading cause of death in Tennessee kids

Something Tennessee Republicans are proud of

Children are dying at higher rates from gun violence in Tennessee than the rest of the nation, an ongoing geographic disparity that has only widened in recent years and one that most gravely impacts the state’s Black families, whose children and teens are being killed by firearms at twice the rate as white kids.

The data tracking child deaths in Tennessee between 2017 and 2021 was released as part of an annual report compiled by the Tennessee Department of Health with the assistance of district attorneys, child welfare advocates, elected officials and other experts who regularly meet in teams to review the deaths of Tennessee kids year-round.

The report this year was released just ahead of a special legislative session called to address public safety after a lone assailant fired 152 rounds inside a Nashville Christian school, killing three nine-year-old children and three adults in less than 15 minutes, according to police.

The report focuses on all causes of child deaths among kids 17 and younger, finding that the overall mortality rate from all causes — accidents, suicides, premature births, other medical conditions and murder — in Tennessee is nearly twice the national average.

Gun deaths among kids, however, have increased by significant rates; by 2021, Tennessee’s rates of firearm deaths among children were more than 36% more than the national average.

In 2021, the latest year analyzed, 67 Tennessee children died by homicide. Fifty-three of the victims were Black, a rate four times as high as white children.

“Child health is a critical indicator of a society’s well-being,” the report noted. The burdens of homicide among Tennessee children is higher among Blacks, males and children aged 15 to 17, with firearms being the leading means of lethality.”

DeSantis and the GOP are going to make it a crime to drive while being a POC or driving with a POC in the car, because if you’re not white, you’re far more likely to be pulled over and harassed by cops.

re: #192 lawhawk

I’d also point out that the state isn’t going to crack down on businesses that hire undocumented workers - primarily agricultural businesses - because that would be a financial hit to agribusinesses across the state that their lobbying has thwarted.

Rather, they’ll go after individuals who aren’t lobbying to get breaks and favorable treatment by the law.

He was a reality star created by NBC as the epitome of a successful businessman. Our brother routinely extols his brilliance in business. He captured the old Dixiecrat loathing for minorities and regurgitated it to a willing audience eager for the return of the good old days of the 1950’s. Also, during the 2016 campaign, he really did have speeches (maybe modeled after Hitler’s My New Order?) that captured the anxiety of working class America.

But in kicking the case back to state court, Hellerstein went much further than just saying that federal laws here don’t preempt New York state laws. He actually emphasized that the DA doesn’t even need to prove the underlying crimes that bump it up to felony status—like tax dodging or election fraud.

“The only elements are the falsification of business records, an intent to defraud, and an intent to commit or conceal another crime. The People need not establish that Trump or any other person actually violated [New York or federal election laws,]” Hellerstein wrote. “Trump can be convicted of a felony even if he did not commit any crime beyond the falsification, so long as he intended to do so or to conceal such a crime.”

All the video isn’t going to stop crimes, but it sure as fuck makes it easier to find those that commit them.

That’s also the double edged sword when it comes to perceptions of crime. All that video makes it seem like crime is out of control, but crime videos just reveal the crimes that have been occurring for a long time out of public scrutiny and media consumption.

It goes against the fact that crime rates are down broadly speaking, and that places like NYC are safer, especially from gun violence, than deep red states.

Media outlets suck as they just regurgitate and spew GOP talking points uncritically. The headline should be that the GOP are trying to distract from Trump’s impending 4th indictment in yet another courtroom by saying that they want to impeach Biden, but can’t identify any specific crime or misdemeanor that is an impeachable offense.

There’s nothing Biden has done that rises to impeachable offense. Nothing.

Because of the GOP. GOP leaders are silent; they aren’t telling him to quit blocking the appointments of military officials.

The GOP are weak on national security, and we can trace this to Trumpism and GOP selling out to Putin’s bidding.

They are holding military personnel policy hostage: Tooterville is blocking all promotions until they abolish “abortion holidas” , i.e., medical leave for female service members stationed in states where that form of medical care is not available.

Fundamentalism, as we see in Evangelical Christians (or, for example, Hassidic Jews), often places great emphasis on making a public display of one’s devotion and faith.

Don’t “for example” Hasidic Jews. We pray indoors, not in the street. Wearing our traditional clothing outside is not a “public display of devotion and faith” (only G-D can see the extent of one’s “devotion & faith”).

Yes, but those ideas came from somewhere. To the point: He doesn’t have an original political idea in his head. All the damage he caused, came from more savvy minds like Tom Fitton or others. They may not have been direct political advisers in the White House, but he read what the crazies out there were saying, and demanded that his people Do Something (tm).

Let’s not forget that his entire FP is not derived from standard GOP thought; it’s clearly based on the advise from his BFF Putin. It remains astounding that the Republican establishment has accepted this radical revision without criticism. For now, most still support Ukraine — but another Trump term and our alliances with be upended permanently.

Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. It just occurred to me that Hunter Biden is the modern version of Jimmy Carter’s brother Billy. Billy was seen as a detriment to Jimmy’s presidency and Billy apparently became a registered foreign agent for Libya. He also had an alcohol addiction.

I think there’s parallels to Jimmy’s situation too - Hunter had an addiction and has had business dealings with foreign entities/persons that may have been questionable.

There’s no evidence of any of this affecting US policy or the President’s foreign policy choices. There’s plenty of evidence that Jimmy and Joe both deeply care(d) for their brother/son, respectively.

Never been tested before, but it should be under the 14th Amendment.

No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

Argument against is that Trump’s state charges are not a 1:1 to what the Amendment states.

Hawaii Lahaina Housing Prices

apnews.com

To buy property in Bermuda, one has to obtain an Acquisition License from Bermuda´s Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs. The Acquisition License fee is at 15% of the purchase price for condominium units, and 22% for houses. Also, the property in question should have and an Annual Rental Value (ARV) of at least US$153,000 or greater for houses, and at least US$32,400 for condominium units. The required minimum ARV is determined, and regularly assessed, by the Bermuda Government. Property falling under this category may only be purchased by a foreigner if it is being sold by a Non-Bermudian owner.

Bermuda houses and villas
Another restriction is: interested non-residents can only acquire condominium units in “special development areas” approved for foreign ownership. Also, Non-Bermudians are banned from acquiring undeveloped land. An exemption is only given to Non-Bermudian spouses and children of Bermuda nationals.

Ordinarily, the Bermuda Government requires purchases of real estate by Non-Bermudians to be in the name of an individual or individuals, while foreign companies or corporations are not ordinarily permitted to buy residential real estate. Other restrictions include: not being able to rent out or sub-divide the property unless specific permission is obtained from the Minister of Home Affairs and Public Safety. Generally speaking, you cannot remain on the island once you lease your home.

When a property has been chosen, and a price negotiated, a sales agreement is prepared and executed. Simultaneously, the buyer is required to place a 10% deposit which is held in escrow until the transaction is closed.

After scouting and negotiating, it is necessary for any Non-Bermudian to apply through a Bermuda law firm in the prescribed form to the Bermuda Government´s Minister of Labour & Home. The consideration fee is US$1,152, which is refunded if the application is successful. Though the sales agreement entered into by a Non-Bermudian will be conditional upon the grant of the purchaser´s license to acquire the particular property, the consideration fee is a cost incurred should the application be denied.

Bermuda beachfront luxury vacation homes
The Bermuda Government approval process may take anywhere from two to six months. Once approval has been granted for the purchase, the fee (22% of the estimated ARV) is paid by the purchaser and the license is released.

While applying for the license and waiting for its approval, the transfer of property will proceed, and the lawyer will do a title search. When all the conditions of the sales agreement have been met, the Planning Department will do a search to determine if any illegal development has taken place on the property being acquired. This usually takes a month or so. Make sure that this search is completed before the transaction is closed, because once the property is in the buyer´s possession, the buyer becomes responsible for it.

Probably tomorrow. 20 people possibly getting indicted along with him. This will take a little while to collate and staple together.

Today is all about anticipation.

California Bar Says It’s Not Buying Eastman’s Rationale For Delay, Citing Recent Interviews

The California State Bar responded to Trump coup attorney John Eastman’s request to postpone disbarment proceedings against him, arguing that special counsel Jack Smith’s latest indictment of Donald Trump is not a good enough reason to delay the license trial.

Bar authorities in California also accused Eastman of hypocrisy in his requests to delay proceedings, citing Eastman’s recent, revelatory series of interviews with Tom Klingenstein, the Chairman of the Trumpite Claremont Institute.

Yesterday, I finally figured out who my neighbor is yelling at many mornings. When he yells, ‘Get the fuck out!’ and ‘Leave me alone!’ he’s talking to the pain in his back.

Trump’s typing reminds me of that.

I cannot believe someone would take their snake into a store while shopping. Have to believe it was deliberately abandoned. Either that or it was a pet that previously escaped its home.

It’s good to see some local officials getting indicted with Trump - sends a message to would-be foot soldiers that they FA at their own expense and FO at it as well.

And if Trump goes down and is no longer around to puff and threaten to protect them the toadies will suddenly be a lot less secure.

Nothing.

My MS-based newsfeed does just that. If you just scan headlines - and they are all clickbait junk outside of some of the local news - it would make one think the Democrats/Biden are in as much hot water as Trump. I imagine Fox and the conservative liar network is ten times worse.
