Trump: I can’t get a fair trial if all of the evidence says I’m guilty.

re: #3 Backwoods Sleuth

just a guess, that ignoring a Judge’s statements on NOT sharing this data with the media in order to not compromise the integrity of the trial by having information floated without context into the wild would violate a few well established tenets of judicial procedure.

It was provided to the defendant as required by Law, not to the media for the court of public opinion. Would not be surprised with shoes dropping on Ms. Hampton’s attorney.

So glad we wasted time on this disingenuous bullshit yesterday:

re: #242 Shropshire Slasher

That is all fine and dandy, but where is her proof that the Trump team leaked it?

Seems like Fani got a twofer, release the tapes to make the defendants look bad, and then claim the defense did it and shut them up. Prosecutors can’t lie, right?

lawhawk  Nov 15, 2023 • 11:17:11am

re: #3 Backwoods Sleuth

So, as indicated yesterday, it was Trump’s fellow coconspirators who leaked the proffer videos (and not the DA’s office itself), which the DA was required by law to provide to said coconspirators as part of their right to access the evidence against them.

Gag orders are going to be forthcoming, and one has to look at the existing bail statements to see if they violated those as well.

Was out on my regular morning stroll this morning when I came across a doe on the trail. I stopped and the doe kept walking towards me until it got about 25 feet away. It then stopped, looked at me, and slowly stepped off the trail about ten feet.

I cautiously continued on my walk, scanning the woods for any others when I heard a snort about 8 feet behind me. Huge buck. I felt like Muldoon in Jurassic Park. Lucky for me no velociraptors were involved but those antlers and hooves….

Turn the tables on Trump!

Hunter Biden Asks to Subpoena Trump for Evidence of Political Pressure

thedailybeast.com

His lawyers are seeking internal documents exchanged between Trump and Justice Department officials, including former Attorney General William Barr.

Hunter Biden on Wednesday filed a motion in federal court seeking internal documents exchanged between ex-President Donald Trump and top-level Department of Justice officials—including former Attorney General William Barr—that he believes could expose dirty dealings behind the gun charges he’s facing.

The investigation into Biden began in late 2018, “during the administration of then President Trump,” the filing states. Since then, “public reporting [has] reveal[ed] certain instances that appear to suggest incessant, improper, and partisan pressure applied by then President Trump” on Barr, as well as Acting and Assistant AGs Jeffrey Rosen and Richard Donoghue, to investigate and prosecute the 53-year-old Biden, come hell or high water.

In one example, the motion says Trump told Donoghue and Rosen to “figure out what to do with H[unter] Biden,” and insisted that “people will criticize the DOJ if he’s not investigated for real.” It also cites Barr’s recent memoir, in which the former AG yelled at a fixated Trump, arguing, “Dammit, Mr. President, I am not going to talk to you about Hunter Biden. Period!”

“These confirmations of communications give more than a mere appearance that President Trump improperly and unrelentingly pressured DOJ to pursue an investigation and prosecution of Mr. Biden to advance President Trump’s partisan ambitions,” the motion alleges. “For his part, Mr. Trump has made a plethora of concerning public statements calling for an investigation or possible prosecution of Mr. Biden, both while in office and since leaving, that further suggest improper partisan, political demands were at play, either expressly or implicitly.”

Biden’s motion says it’s “clear no measure of charges against [him] will ever be enough to appease [GOP legislators] and their MAGA allies.”

“As anyone can readily tell, it is not just pressure from within the Trump-era Executive Branch that is the problem; it is also incessant, unrelenting outside interference from congressional Republicans and their allies in the prosecutorial process, which is supposed to be independent and free from political interference.”

Part of me does feel for Joe Manchin in the sense that he is the last Democrat standing in a state that has done a dramatic 180 since giving its electoral votes to Dukakis in 1988. His family has long been a part of the state’s politics - and he has represented his state well, especially as governor.

At the same time, one must recognize when the race has been run and it is time to further other, apolitical pursuits. Facilitating fascist authoritarianism is not a legacy one wants to have.

44
Charles Johnson  Nov 15, 2023 • 12:20:47pm

Jones doesn’t need long lectures from the judge when he lies and rants uncontrollably. They make absolutely no impression on him.

He needs to face serious consequences when he does this, because that’s the only thing that has a chance of stopping it. I guarantee he’ll be right back doing the same shit the next time he’s in the box.

I’m no legal expert, but I think that’s a big problem.

More importantly, will the judge do anything about it?

Looks at what’s going on in NYC. Engeron is blowing a gasket about all the death threats his chambers and the people he works with are getting, but he fucking gave Trump the tiniest of gag orders, which Trump routinely ignores.

I mean, for fuck’s sake, the judge did not include himself in the order, yet he’s shocked… SHOCKED that Trump is attacking him.

In the documents case, you expect Cannon to practically give the win to Trump. These other idiots are doing the barest minimum and are baffled that Trump won’t respect their orders.

I’m fulling expecting the judge in this case to go “Eh, whaddya gonna do? Leak away, defendants!”

This is the problem. They keep giving Trump deference, whether it’s under some misguided attempt to show him respect as a former POTUS, or they’re actually trying to throw the case, or they’re under pressure from all the death threats.

Disc golf was invented in America and Americans still hold onto to most competitive top places! But that is changing.*

At 7 pm tonight CBS Sports is showing portions of the 2023 PDGA professional disc golf World Championships.

I hope you enjoy seeing some of what I have spent a great deal of the last 25 years of my life on. I have a professional disc golf first place Worlds trophy (2017) for the 70+ age division, the Legends division. (You wont see the old guys in this video.) I sure can’t throw 500 feet like these young players can!

*In 2021 there were about five (5) new disc golf courses built each DAY around the world, most not in North America. I think there are already more rounds of disc golf played in a year in the US than of traditional golf.

This is the guy who had to spend the night in the Fulton County Jail because his bond hearing was complicated by the fact that he was already out on bond for alleged assault.

Atlanta prosecutors building the case to jail Donald Trump for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election are scrambling to stop leaks to journalists before trial, asking a judge to step in during an “emergency” court hearing Wednesday that came with a surprise confession by a defense lawyer.

Jonathan R. Miller III, an attorney representing a fired county election employee charged with taking part in Trump’s election meddling efforts in Georgia, revealed that he was the one who leaked a video that caused a news firestorm earlier this week.

On Monday, ABC published videos showing one-time MAGA-loyal lawyers Sidney Powell and Jenna Ellis dishing damning details to prosecutors as part of their recent plea deals to flip on Trump. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis immediately had her team renew an urgent request that the judge seal off access to documents shared between law enforcement and defendants before trial, leading to today’s court hearing.

More than a dozen defense lawyers representing many of the case’s 19 defendants took turns agreeing to keep things quiet for now—that is, until one spoke up.

“With all candor,” Miller told the judge, “I did release those videos to one outlet.”

His unexpected admission sparked a hearty discussion about the American public’s growing interest in the historic case, which could disrupt the 2024 election by forcing the leading Republican presidential candidate into a lengthy criminal trial just as voters go to the polls next year—and potentially imprison Trump whether he wins or not.

re: #67 Wendell Zurkowitz ((slave to the waffle light))

I was in Arizona between Flagstaff and Pine when I stopped to take a pee off the side of the road and found myself looking up at a bull elk, easily a ton and about 8’ tall with his antlers. Fortunatley there was a fence between us.

Which I realize would not have but slowed him down a bit if he had wanted to come my way.

My brother-in-law said that to Clydesdales gates and fences were simply suggestions.

Though from my limited interactions with them they were generally pretty well trained to behave when getting put in harness. If they started getting fidgety a word in a raised voice or a tap on their nose with a finger would get them to stand still. Outside of that when they were in their stalls or a pasture some of them were right bastards. Especially the stallions.
