Maine Secretary of State Bars Donald Trump From Ballot

Law • Views: 12,973

Maine is now the second state to bar Trump from the 2024 GOP primary ballot under the insurrection clause of the 14th Amendment.

And I’m here for it.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Maine’s Democratic secretary of state on Thursday removed former President Donald Trump from the state’s presidential primary ballot under the Constitution’s insurrection clause, becoming the first election official to take action unilaterally as the U.S. Supreme Court is poised to decide whether Trump remains eligible to continue his campaign.

I’d just like to mention that this is strictly for the R *primary* ballot, just like the Colorado primary ballot.

IF Trump wins the R Nomination *nationally*, this DOES NOT mean he will not be on the State Presidential ballot in November (for both Colorado and Maine).

It seems to be different animals, but I don’t know why.

They might try. I don’t think they have the cojones anymore. Not after the DOJ started bringing the hammer down on their first insurrection attempt.

I don’t think so. It’s more likely that some of Trump’s cult members may get violent on a smaller scale than full out civil war, though.

Cuban-Style Pollo a la Plancha (Marinated and Griddled Chicken) Recipe

Ingredients
6 medium cloves garlic
if you cannot get 1/2 cup Sour orange juice you can substitute:
1/4 cup (60ml) freshly squeezed orange juice (from about 1 orange)
1/4 cup (60ml) freshly squeezed lime juice (from about 2 limes)

1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice (optional)
Kosher salt
4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves (about 10 ounces; 285g each) or 8 chicken cutlets
1 tablespoon (15ml) neutral oil such as canola or vegetable, plus more as needed
1 large white or yellow onion (about 3/4 pound; 340g); sliced crosswise into 1/4 inch thick rings
Cooked long-grain rice and black beans, for serving
Picked cilantro leaves, for serving
Lime wedges, for serving

Using a blender or food processor, purée garlic, orange juice, lime juice, cumin, oregano, black pepper, allspice (if using), and 2 teaspoons kosher salt until well blended. (Alternatively, to make with a mortar and pestle, pound the garlic with the salt to form a paste, then mix in the rest of the ingredients. Alternatively, finely grate or mince the garlic and stir together with the remaining ingredients in a small bowl.)

If using chicken breast halves, cut into cutlets pounding to an even thickness of about 1/4 inch. (If desired, you can butterfly the breast halves by not fully cutting all the way through, so that they open like a book; butterflied breasts also need to be pounded to an even thickness.)

Place chicken cutlets in a large zipper-lock bag or shallow baking or glass storage dish. Add marinade, making sure it coats chicken evenly all over. Press out excess air and seal zipper-lock bag, or cover dish with plastic or a lid. Refrigerate for 30 minutes; if chicken is in a dish, turn it once halfway through.

Remove the chicken breasts from the marinade and wipe off any excess. In a stainless steel skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat until shimmering. Working in batches, if necessary, to prevent crowding the pan, add the chicken cutlets and cook until golden brown on each side, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer cooked cutlets to a platter and cover with foil or place in a low oven to keep warm. Repeat with remaining chicken, adding more oil if the pan gets too dry.

In the same skillet that you cooked the chicken, add more oil if the pan is dry and heat over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add the onion rings, season with salt, and sauté until the onions have softened a bit and started to brown, 7 to 10 minutes; lower heat and/or add a small splash of water if the contents of the pan threaten to burn.

Arrange cutlets on serving plates and top with browned onions. Serve with black beans and rice and garnish with cilantro leaves and lime wedges.

The marinade can be blended in advance and refrigerated for up to 5 hours before using. However, it is best not to marinate the chicken for much longer than the recommended 30 minutes.

Most of the Impressionist stuff held by the National Gallery is from The Mellon Collection/Mellon Trust. This was donated to the US before the kids went Libertarian Batshit. There is limited display space, so the WH can request paintings not being displayed to be loaned to the WH for limited periods of time.

My counterpoint argument goes something like we’re heading there anyway and it’s arguably better to see it coming and frame around a wannabe dictator and criminal insurrectionist’s lust for power than to allow him an air of legitimacy.

I wonder if the SCOTUS can explain how the insurrection clause is different than the age clause. If a person is 34, it does not require an act of congress to declare them ineligible to run for POTUS. You are simply not qualified to run. So why would the same not apply to an insurrectionist?

Dad of Jan. 6 Rioter Says He ‘Couldn’t Be Any Prouder’ After Son’s Arrest

Larry Stickney said he couldn’t be prouder of his son Matthew Stickney, who was arrested last week and charged in connection to the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. Federal prosecutors charged Matthew with four counts after amassing a wealth of evidence against him, including internet searches leading up to the riot such as “how do I take my gun with me on a flight” and “can i bring a gas mask on a plane.” Matthew’s pop is sticking by his side despite the charges. My son is a fine young man with a strong sense of right and wrong. I couldn’t be any prouder of him than I am today,” Larry Stickney said in a statement to KIRO 7. “I’ll go through hell and back if that’s what it takes to help him and his family through this difficult time.”

were there enough “guns” to make it a “true” insurrection?

You know and I know (and lets face it, even THEY know) what happened, but as we’ve seen before with this crew when it comes to following the law and legal precedent or securing a political “win” for their ideology… if they choose to, and feel like they can get away with it, they’ll throw the game.

There is a section of the 14th Amendment that says Congress can enforce its provisions through legislation, so some argue that is the only way its provisions can be enforced. I disagree.

The problem is the definition of insurrectionist. Is that a crime that requires a court decision? Is there a legal definition? I know that MAGAts have pretended that nothing around January 6 counts as an insurrection. What will SCOTUS say? Lay people are often very casual about words and meanings. I call Trump a sociopath and apply that term to his followers, but no reputable organization should base their conclusion on my uneducated opinion. That is what will have to be resolved.

Also, check the wood you use in the hot box that is offset from the grill. Maple is a very different taste than Apple, or Mesquite, Hickory or Pecan.

The temperature in the grill/smoker section is directly related to the temp in the hot box and must be very carefully controlled. I guarantee you are going to fuck up a lot of protein before you get used to the nuances of using a smoker. The fact that it is an indirect meat heat cooker throws everything we’ve ever learned about cooking meat right out the window.
