BUT WAIT! THERE’S MORE!

Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee denied a heavily redacted motion by former President Donald Trump’s one-time Justice Department official and criminal co-defendant Jeffrey Clark, requesting a delay in his case, reported Politico’s Kyle Cheney on Friday.

I have a feeling her egregious conduct in this trial, specifically, is probably going to have some negative consequences for Alina Habba. The judge almost had the bailiff haul her away during her closing arguments (even an objection is rare, the judge threatening contempt is practically unheard of).

Given that award amount, I think that the judge should have rounded the award amount to $81,283,501.

Oh, just a reminder, while Trump is (yet again) getting paddled by the courts, his GQP allies are (yet again) coming up empty in their Biden Dick Pic Show:

A former business associate of Hunter Biden gave a closed-door deposition to House Republicans as part of their impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden — and poured cold water on accusations that Biden profited from the business dealings of his son, Axios reported.

“To be clear, President Biden — while in office or as a private citizen — was never involved in any of the business activities we pursued,” Rob Walker told the House Oversight and House Judiciary Committees.

“Any statement to the contrary is simply false,” Walker added.

Hunter, “Made sure there was always a clear boundary between any business and his father,” the witness continued.

“Based on what has transpired through this inquiry to date, I am very concerned that what I say here today may be taken out of context to further a political objective, rather than to discover the truth.”

The GQP? Lie about something said behind closed doors?! The hell you say!

$25 would seem like a more likely escalation from $5, but it would be hard to seat a jury that believes Trump can control himself these days, and Trump actually showed up to act like a loon, so the larger number isn’t that surprising.

@toobigtofail.bsky.social

Surety bonds on appeal in the 2nd Circuit are at the district court’s discretion. I’m guessing Judge Kaplan will require a bond for 100% of the verdict. Justice Engoron is likely to issue a ~$400 million fine next week; in state court appeal bonds MUST be for 100% plus statutory 9% interest.

@toobigtofail.bsky.social

Appeal bonds are generally 100% collateralized; it’s conceivable some bank could offer Trump an irrevocable letter of credit, but a half- billion dollars is a lot.

It helps Carroll’s attorney that she could point to Trump’s claims that he is worth $10 billion; you have to fine someone that rich A LOT for it to hurt. The irony being that Trump probably isn’t worth anywhere near a billion if you deducted all his debts from his assets.

Trump’s super PAC raised $46 million in 6 months
politico.com

So in a year he should be ready to pay?

If Trump uses super PAC money to pay civil judgement someone will have to pay taxes on the money at the “gift rate”, and given that $83 million vastly exceeds the annual ($17 K in 2023) AND lifetime $12.92 million in 2023) exclusion value the max 40% rate would likely apply to most of the funds

No Malarkey!  Jan 26, 2024 • 2:42:24pm

The judge warned the jurors that they should never reveal that they served on this jury, a sensible precaution given all the homicidal loons in Trump’s cult. Let’s not forget that’s why he ran for president in the first place, bringing a plague of locusts upon our nation and the world. Obama mocked him for his lies and he couldn’t handle it at all. Nothing infuriates him more than for others to treat him the way he feels free to treat them.

No. The money Tacopina is holding is from the first defamation verdict. That is now going to be the property of the Court, until the final judgment once all appeals are exhausted. Attorneys’ fees are separate; and I don’t think Joe Tacopizza is going to be getting any money when all is said and done.

“It’s a lot of commitment.” Not “She’d never do something so horrible.”

uthorities in New York City have launched an investigation after a severed head and other body parts were found inside a fridge in Brooklyn.

Heather Stines, 45, has been charged with concealment of a corpse in connection with the disturbing discovery on Monday at her Flatbush apartment. Stines, who has a history of minor crimes, claimed it was her now-jailed husband who allegedly killed a man following a dispute over drugs and dismembered the body to store it in the fridge.

The victim whose body parts were found inside the fridge has been identified by law enforcement as 39-year-old registered sex offender Kawsheen Gelzer.

Stines’ brother-in-law Timothy McGee told the New York Daily News that he did not believe she had carried out the murder.

“She does not have it in her to do something like this. It’s a lot of commitment,” Mr McGee said.

He can appeal without putting up the $83M

BUT

If he does not put up the $, Carroll can begin executing the $83m judgment 30 days from now in all fifty states, seizing his cash & personal property and placing liens on his real estate.

If he appeals, he has to put up that sum in a bond pending appeal. Cash-strapped as he is, it means he will may well have to liquidate some of his holdings to make that nut.

U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber (R-MN) was served a “reality check” by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg on Friday, after the pro-Trump election-denying Republican repeatedly took credit this week for a massive infrastructure project in his home state, funded by President Joe Biden’s legislation the Minnesota Congressman voted against.

“Reality check: I approved this because it’s a deserving project, consistent with President Biden’s priorities. This is happening because the Biden infrastructure package passed, despite your ‘no’ vote,” wrote Secretary Buttigieg on social media, in response to Rep. Staubert’s video providing what he claimed was a “fact check.”

OH NO—HE WENT THERE!

Ben Shapiro Is a Rapper Now Because That’s What 2024 Deserves 😵‍💫

It’s still January and we already have Ben Shapiro spitting verses with a MAGA rapper.

Rap-hating conservative pundit Ben Shapiro is now a rapper.

Shapiro, the founder of right-wing media empire The Daily Wire, teamed up with MAGA rapper Tom MacDonald—yes, MAGA rap is a real genre—on the lib-owning track “Facts,” which debuted Friday. Much like the rest of MacDonald’s oeuvre, this latest song centers on well-worn right-wing culture war talking points.

This time around, though, there’s the extra bonus of Shapiro—who has long complained that rap is not a real art form—busting out his own rhymes.

Of course, the whole thing is purposely cringe, which is the entire point. Whether it’s MacDonald wearing an “I Don’t Care If I Offend You” hoodie in the video, or Shapiro spitting verses like “Homie I’m epic/don’t be a WAP,” the song is merely another lazy exercise in titillating easily entertained conservatives while supposedly enraging “snowflake” liberals.

Pence hasn’t ruled himself out…he has no soul, no conscience…he’d be Trump’s veep again in a heartbeat.

All true, but to Trump Pence is the great traitor. Trump will not pick Pence, IMO.

That was such a horrifically _bad_ translation. Even a straight literal translation would have been better but that was just astonishing in how terrible a really great song could be made and still be a hit.

I’d learned it while stationed in Germany and would drive people nuts because when the English version came on the radio in America I would insist on singing the German lyrics as loudly as I could 😈

We had to memorize and translate the lyrics in German class shortly after it was released. I will only listen to and sing along in German.

As an historian, I can assure you that we’ll absolutely never ever stop talking about a former president who was found liable of sexual assault by one jury and made to pay $83.3 MILLION by a second jury when he spread lies about the victim

Or Chairman of the Board of a major sports/entertainment company.

McMahon was forced off of his own board, by independent board members.

When the election time came for said independent board members, McMahon voted them off (he holds the majority of voting shares) and reinstated himself.

He then merged WWE with UFC’s parent company, getting a whole lot of money.

This is how the rich and powerful work.

So if anyone wants a recommendation for an utterly silly fun casual game, I splurged on the arcade race game “Hot Wheels Unleashed”

Yeah, it’s just like it sounds on the label - racing the little toy cars on the little plastic tracks around, say, the basement of your house. I’ve only just gotten it and even had to break down and actually buy a gaming controller (Logitech F310) but it’s nice relaxing silly fun and worth the money. The toy cars are highly detailed and it reminds me of the fun my son and I used to have playing with the real thing once upon a time.

9/10.
