Well, tbf, that would be about $8500.00 in today’s money….
Naaah, still cheap!!

I wonder what the Stones were doing in Sheffield, AL?

Muscle Shoals Sound is a real recording studio (kind of), as well as FAME studios. Muscle Shoals Sound was a split off FAME. Museums for both are in the Quad Cities area in Northwest Alabama (I did FAME), might as well see the Helen Keller museum, Singin’ River brewery, Alabama Music Hall of Fame, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Rosenbaum house, and get a hot dog and beer at Wildwood Tavern.

Well Hot Damn!

Republicans In Disarray!

Will the Screw York Times notice this?

Dozens of Republicans to bail on House GOP retreat amid conservative party infighting

Dozens of House Republicans plan to skip an upcoming GOP retreat, saying the location — and some of the attendees — are less than desirable, according to a new report. Those reported grumblings signal tensions within the party are still high in the wake of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s ouster.

According to CNN, fewer than 100 Republicans have RSVP’d for the event this Wednesday and Thursday, which amount to less than half of the Republican conference.

“Publicly, Republicans have cited a litany of reasons for not attending: from having to tend to reelection races to scheduling conflicts. GOP Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina, for example, is scheduled to appear on ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ later this week. Meanwhile, when asked if he was attending, GOP Rep. Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota told CNN: ‘No way, I have to run for governor.’ And Rep. Tim Burchett of Tennessee quipped: ‘I don’t retreat, I move forward! I got a farm to run,’” CNN’s report stated.

In private, some Republicans have complained about the Greenbrier Resort venue where the retreat is to be held — a break from past retreats that were usually held in Florida.

According to Speaker Mike Johnson, Greenbrier is much more “family friendly.” But other GOP insiders told CNN they simply don’t want to attend a retreat while Republican infighting is holding back their progress on various issues.

RNC’s ‘Senior Counsel for Election Integrity’ role handed to election denying ex-Trump lawyer

After Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, and Michael Whatley — an ally of the ex-president — were voted to lead the Republican National Committee last week in Ronna McDaniel’s place, Politico reported Monday that “mass firings” were underway at the committee, which a GOP operative called an “absolute bloodbath.”

On Tuesday, former Trump lawyer Christina Bobb was hired as the RNC’s Senior Counsel for Election Integrity, according to Mediaite. She said in a statement, “I’m honored to join the RNC and thrilled the new leadership is focused on election integrity. I look forward to working to secure rig our elections and restore confidence in the process.” (note…edited to show what that crook really wants to do!)

Recipe time

This time—the recipe for the ORIGINAL Spaghetti Sauce that Hector Boiardee served at his restaurant in Cleveland.

from Tasting History: tastinghistory.com

Ingredients:
2 lbs (1 kg) canned peeled tomatoes, or fresh if they’re in season
6 tablespoons (90 ml) extra virgin olive oil
1 cup diced onion
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup diced carrot
1 lb lean ground beef
1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
5 medium basil leaves, sliced into strips
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
8 ounces dried spaghetti
2 tablespoons (28 g) butter
3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese, plus more for garnish

Instructions:
Chop up the tomatoes, then put them through a food mill or press them through a conical sieve. You want to separate all the juice and pulp from the seeds (a wooden pestle is handy if you use a conical sieve, or it’s possible to press so hard that you break your spatula). Set the tomato sauce aside and discard the seeds.

Heat the oil in a deep saucepan over medium heat.

Add the onion and sprinkle it with about half of the salt.

Cook, stirring frequently, for about 3 minutes. Turn the heat down if the onions start to brown.

Add the carrots and cook for another 5 to 6 minutes, or until the onions are soft and translucent.

Add the meat and break it up into small pieces.

Sprinkle the rest of the salt and the pepper over it.

Cook for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the meat is no longer pink.

Stir in the tomato sauce and the mushrooms.

Raise the heat a bit and bring the sauce to a boil. Let it boil for a few seconds, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Place the lid on the pot, slightly ajar and let it cook for about 40 minutes.

After the 40 minutes are up and the sauce has thickened, stir in the sliced basil, put the lid back on (ajar), and cook for another 5 minutes.

Cook the spaghetti according to the package’s directions. Drain it and return it to the pot. Add the butter and the parmesan. Toss to combine.

Dish up the spaghetti and ladle the sauce over it. Sprinkle it with more parmesan and serve it forth.

The End Result!

DEE…LIGHT…FULL!!!!!

You may remember some discussion earlier about the possibility of discharge petitions in the House to force a vote on Foreign Aid.

There are now two discharge petition efforts floating around the House. One by the Democrats and one by the GOP that is less favored by the Democrats.

ABC News:House Democrats and centrist Republicans launch separate efforts to force a vote on Ukraine aid
.
.
WASHINGTON — House Democrats and a small group of centrist Republicans on Tuesday launched separate long-shot efforts to force a vote on tens of billions of dollars in wartime aid for Ukraine, intensifying pressure on Speaker Mike Johnson to take up the foreign funding package.

Democrats, as the minority in the House, began gathering signatures to force a floor vote on the Senate’s $95 billion package of aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan through a “discharge petition” — a seldom-successful procedural tool that can circumvent the speaker’s control over which bills come up for a vote. Shortly after, a group of Republicans launched their own signature drive for a proposal that would trim the package to $66 billion, mostly for military aid, and include border security provisions.

*snip*

For either petition to trigger action in the House, it must be signed by a majority of lawmakers, or 218 members. With Republicans controlling the House 219-213, at least some Republicans would have to buck their leadership and sign the Democratic-backed petition, which includes $60 billion for Ukraine, to reach a majority. Plus, some progressive Democrats are unlikely to sign on because the legislation includes military aid for Israel.

*snip*

A group of centrist Republicans began gathering signatures for their own discharge petition effort. Their proposal would provide $48 billion for Ukraine, mostly by sending ammunition and weaponry. It would also for one year require that asylum seekers remain in Mexico while their cases are decided. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, a Pennsylvania Republican, led that effort. It gained support from six Republicans and six Democrats on Tuesday.

*snip*

Lauren Boebert says special election triggered by Ken Buck’s resignation is ‘swampy’ and could ‘confuse voters’

Buck’s choice is a tremendous tactical hit on Boebert and the GOP. There will be a special election. For Boebert to participate whe would also have to resign. But if she does not, the winner of the special election wil likely win the election in November.

So, by Buck resigning, he could lower the number of Republicans by 2, if Boebert does also. If a few more did this, we could see a Democratic majority for at least a short period of time. Not sure what would happen but it might be worth the popcorn.
