Zach Biondi:

“…The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them, they would protest that they had known all along that the statement was a lie and would admire the leaders for the superior tactical wisdom.”

It’s gotten to the point where a guy can’t lie to his wife, bang a porn star, lie about it, pay her to keep quiet, lie about that, falsify business records, lie about that, conceal campaign documents, lie about that, lie to the press, lie to voters and lie to family without being mercilessly hounded and persecuted. Welcome to Biden’s America

That would have a chilling effect on other witnesses yet to testify, since presumably he would be free to attack them once they finished testifying, as well. I can’t believe his lawyers are actually trying to enable this motherfucker to commit stochastic terrorism.

Along a similar line:

I read an article this morning on El País this morning (so yeah, Spanish) and it was about a warning from the International Astronomical Union warning that the proliferation of satellites (such as the approximately 8,000 that Elon Musk’s Starlink is poised to throw into orbit) might bring greater risk of not being able to see a dangerous asteroid through all the space junk.

The story starts out with how a particular asteroid/meteoroid named 2024 BX1 was discovered less than three hours before it disintegrated over Berlin by a Hungarian astronomer. But the argument is that all the satellites are really starting to obscure visibility of near Earth objects as they’re in low earth orbit and maybe we should think about that?

Here’s the article: elpais.com

Wikipedia on 2024 BX1: en.wikipedia.org

However, even if we detect an incoming large space rock, who says anyone is going to pay attention? “Don’t Look Up” was kind of silly in parts, but given how people are today, I could see it happening.

Robot Monster, 1953 film

Robot Monster (or Monster from Mars) is a 1953 independently made American black-and-white 3D science fiction horror film, remembered in later decades as one of the worst movies ever made. It was produced and directed by Phil Tucker, written by Wyott Ordung, and stars George Nader, Claudia Barrett, and George Barrows.

We knew where Project 2025 was going.

Conservative Plan Calls for Dozens of Executions if Trump Wins

A conservative plan for Donald Trump’s potential transition into the presidency calls for dozens of prisoners to be executed, according to HuffPost. An 887-page plan by Project 2025, led by the ultra-conservative Heritage Foundation, says that if elected, Trump should make a concerted effort to execute the remaining 40 prisoners on death row. The section’s author, attorney Gene Hamilton, advised that Trump “do everything possible to obtain finality” on the current list of people until Congress forces them to stop. Hamilton is the vice president of America Legal First, a group of former Trump lawyers bent on attacking “woke” companies, headed by Stephen Miller. Trump’s approach to the death penalty stands in stark contrast to that of President Joe Biden, who has openly opposed the death penalty, but done little to move forward legislation to reform or abolish the practice since entering office.

Miss USA resigned, and sent a hidden message.

In life, I strongly value the importance of making decisions that feel best for you and your mental health.

As individuals, we grow through experiencing different things in life that lead us to learning more about ourselves.
My journey as Miss USA has been incredibly meaningful, representing Utah with pride, and later the USA at Miss Universe.

Sadly, I have made the very tough decision to resign from the title of Miss USA 2023.
I am grateful for the love and support of the fans, old and new, my family, my friends, my coaches, former state and local directors, and my darling beloved Miss Teen USA, UmaSofia.
Lifelong friendships and connections that I had the opportunity to make along the way while attending different events, and competing at state pageants, Miss USA, and Miss Universe are invaluable things I will be forever grateful for.
Every time someone asked me what my favorite part of being Miss USA was, I would always share with them how much I loved getting to work with Smile Train, being a fervent advocate for anti-bullying, dating violence awareness and prevention, immigration rights and reform, and shedding light on my roots as the first Venezuelan-American woman to win Miss USA.
Never could I have imagined the journey that my childhood dream would take me on.
Constant and consistent hard work and dedication all lead me to where I am today, and I hope that over the last seven years of competing in pageantry and sharing my journey with you all is something that inspires you to never give up on your dreams, whatever they may be.
Eternal gratitude fills my heart when I think about the platform I was given to make a difference, the feeling of achieving a lifelong dream, and connecting with people all over the world, just as I said I would do on the Miss USA stage.
Deep down I know that this is just the beginning of a new chapter for me, and my hope is that I continue to inspire others to remain steadfast, prioritize your mental health, advocate for yourself and others by using your voice, and never be afraid of
what the future holds, even if it feels uncertain. How I wish I could hug all of you. I love you all with all of my heart and always will.

Peace and love, always.

But what if it’s a hung jury? And if he’s convicted, it’s always possible some MAGAt judge will overturn the verdict and require a new trial. And witnesses and members of the justice community will again be threatened. Or jurors could be harmed and thereby raise fears for those in upcoming trials, assuming any other trials see the light of day.

I’ve been reading* “Emma y las otras señoras del narco” (Emma and the other narco ladies) by Anabel Hernández. On Tuesday, when I was driving to/from work, I heard the story of Alicia Machado, who Hernández alleges has benefited from her narco connections. That’s beyond what I want to talk about here.

What got my attention was how she came to attention—Machado, who had been Miss Venezuela, won Miss Universe in 1996, and that was when Donald Trump owned it. He didn’t like that she had put on weight, and he treated her like she was his property in ordering her to basically stop eating and spend lots of time in the gym. She was very happy for her Miss Universe time to be over just to get out from his scrutiny.

Anyway, I could see these young women being under great stress because of the expectations put upon them. I have no idea who owns these organizations and what kind of pressure the young women might be under.

* I have both Kindle and Audible copies. I try to read the Kindle version before listening to the Audible version, so that I at least have an idea of what’s going on.

It could be all kinds of things.
She seems to be very religious, so the conflict could be between conservative religion and a business that sells sex appeal. The conflict could also be due to pressure to have sex with men with power. We can’t accurately judge if she’s being reasonable or not with the information available.

Miss Teen USA has also resigned

Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson to be placed in conservatorship, judge rules

Amid his battle with a “major neurocognitive disorder,” The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson has been placed under a conservatorship, a judge ruled Thursday.

Judge Gus T. May approved the guardianship during a hearing Thursday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Superior Court website.

“The court finds from clear and convincing evidence that a conservatorship of the person is necessary and appropriate in that (Wilson) is unable to care for (his) person,” a minute order from the hearing reads. “The conservatorship is the least restrictive alternative needed for the protection of conservatee.”

Wilson did not object to the conservatorship, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY.

Wilson’s longtime manager LeeAnn Hard and publicist Jean Sievers, who filed the conservatorship, were named his conservators.

I think Ukraine needs them more.

There’s also the not-so-small issue that it’s better for the US to be gun-running to people resisting war crimes than to people perpetrating war crimes.

This is a terribly sad story, and has been for thirty years. Poor Brian. What a genius. What a loss.

My news feed is grim.

Dennis Thompson, Drummer & Last Member of MC5, Dies at 75

Dennis Thompson, the high energy drummer for influential Detroit band MC5, died on Thursday (May 9). He was 75 years old.

The rocker died at MediLodge of Taylor in Michigan, where he had been recovering following a heart attack in April, according to local news station Detroit Free Press. Thompson was the last surviving member of the band, who are set to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this fall in the musical excellence category. Thompson was preceded in death by singer Rob Tyner, guitarist Fred “Sonic” Smith, bassist Michael Davis and guitarist Wayne Kramer, the last of which died in February of this year.

It’s a gut punch, but a proper gut punch.

I own three guns, two rifles and a shotgun. Thinking of selling the rifles. A bolt .30/06 brand escapes me and a .22 rifle with three 10 round magazines, that’s a Browning, I haven’t fired those weapons in a long time, last time I remember was when I was living in Steamboat Springs, CO. I moved away from Steamboat in 2008.

I’m keeping the shotgun. Dad bought it in Ouray, CO so he could go duck hunting.

This was right before he got drunk with John Wayne at the Outlaw Saloon. The Duke was in town filming “True Grit.” According to Dad he’s like “You live here?” and Dad says yeah and he says “What’dd’rr doo here?!?” and Dad says “I’m a teacher.” “Well, yorrr gettin’ all your drinks tuhnite on me! I Love Teachers!”

Story my Dad told to anyone who’d listen.

They suffer from the same delusion that their philosophical ancestors in The Axis did: Liberals are unarmed, weak, and afraid to fight.

Where is The Axis now?

When the trial is over and a verdict rendered (innocent, guilty, or hung jury), is he then free to attack the witnesses, the jury, and everyone else who upsets him?

If Trump is a convicted felon, the judge can put restrictions on him prior to his sentencing.

Yet another example why one should not volunteer one’s expertise for free, to the jungle of information brokers:

I’ve been part of StackOverflow for over 14 years now, using answers I’ve found as well as asking questions and offering answers. I’m in the top 9% in reputation points. While it’s had its problems with over zealous moderators, users who expect answers to their homework problems, among other issues, it has been a tremendous resource to me. This whole AI thing threatens to completely destroy that resource. The fact that they are actually banning their users who protest, leads me to question if I should stay. Taking such a high-handed approach to dealing with those who have legitimate concerns is a sure path to irrelevance and ultimately, its demise. There have been many examples of sites that were popular, only to morph into something user’s didn’t want or like, and disappear into internet graveyard.
