This huge storm coming right at us on a line from South Dakota to Colorado was just declared a severe thunderstorm warning by the National Weather Service.

Law enforcement observed softball-size hail. The National Weather Service reports 80mph winds and higher in gusts.

I think I’ll stay indoors.

At the rate it’s moving it should be here in a half-hour or so.

Flash flood warning in the same warned area just went up. 2.5 inches have already fallen west of us with another 1.5 inches expected in the same area. Law enforcement has closed the roads west of us.

My wife and I drove by the Beerline Canal yesterday (a block from my house). That canal is full right up to the top.

Son in law of the NDP creator and leader Tommy Douglas.

For those who don’t know who Tommy Douglas is here he is with his landmark speech Mouseland—introduced by his grandson

New thunderstorm warning went up, warning of 80mph winds. People and livestock outside will be severely injured or killed. It replaces the previous warning.

The system has entered my county and is pounding the City of Bayard now.

Someone was asking about Kaspersky. And yes, it’s being banned. From Wired:

US Bans Kaspersky Software
Using a Trump-era authority, the US Commerce Department has banned the sale of Kaspersky’s antivirus tools to new customers in the US, citing alleged threats to national security.

The Russian cybersecurity software firm Kaspersky’s days of operating in the United States are now officially numbered.

The Biden administration on Thursday said it’s banning the company from selling its products to new US-based customers starting on July 20, with the company only allowed to provide software updates to existing customers through September 29. The ban—the first such action under authorities given to the Commerce Department in 2019—follows years of warnings from the US intelligence community about Kaspersky being a national security threat because Moscow could allegedly commandeer its all-seeing antivirus software to spy on its customers.

“When you think about national security, you may think about guns and tanks and missiles,” Commerce secretary Gina Raimondo told reporters during a briefing Thursday. “But the truth is, increasingly, it’s about technology, and it’s about dual-use technology, and it’s about data.”

Neo-Nazis Are All-In on AI

“…Extremists across the US have weaponized artificial intelligence tools to help them spread hate speech more efficiently, recruit new members, and radicalize online supporters at an unprecedented speed and scale, according to a new report from the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), an American non-profit press monitoring organization.

The report found that AI-generated content is now a mainstay of extremists’ output: They are developing their own extremist-infused AI models, and are already experimenting with novel ways to leverage the technology, including producing blueprints for 3D weapons and recipes for making bombs.”

And IIRC, the grandfather of how Canada manages healthcare (for all). Started in his home province before going nationwide (baby steps).

Yep. He was voted the greatest Canadian ever in a nationwide poll (yes, even above Wayne Gretzky) conducted around the turn of the millennium.

RFK Jr’s campaign believes CNN is violating federal campaign finance laws by not having RFK, Jr., included in the debate. Apparently, in RFK, Jr’s view, “presumptive” nominee isn’t an “objective” criteria.

We’ll just make up the law as we go along… .

For The Atlantic article which is narrated (according to them) by AI and is paywalled, the original article appears here without a paywall (you don’t think The Atlantic paid for something like investigative journalism, do you?)

Miami entering a state of unreality: Adaptation to climate change can’t fix the city’s water problems (Floodlight, June 19, 2024)

“As record rainfalls pound south Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis decries ‘radical green zealots’ who want him to do more.”

Hank Perez, 72, was trying to get home to North Miami Beach on Wednesday afternoon last week, but the rain had other plans. Floodwaters as high as the hood of Perez’s gray Toyota Yaris stalled the car; he pulled onto the median and called for roadside assistance, but it never came.

Thousands of other commuters found themselves in similar straits: About a foot and a half of water had fallen across south Florida — not the product of a hurricane or a tropical storm but of a rainstorm, dubbed Invest 90L, a deluge that meteorologists are calling a once-in-200-years event.

It was the fourth such massive rainfall to smite southeastern Florida in as many years.

But aren’t most conservatives authoritarians at heart? Objecting to any policy that extends rights and wealth to those who are of different ethnicity, race, religion, gender?

If you suspect your computer is infected download Malwarebytes and run a scan. No need for anything else.

Spybot works much better than Malwarebytes (that was installed on my new computer and I nuked it immediately, then went through a Webpage on how to remove all the tracking software Malwarebytes installs to obliterate it).

Spybot is effective at blocking all the third-party crap before it gets into my computer. Usually when I run a scan all it has to do is remove logs from Windows applications such as most-recent accessed programme or playlist logs from Windows Media Player.

I installed Avast’s free security app on my Mac but ended up removing it because it was such a pain in the posterior, constantly popping up dialogs with worthless info or nagging me to upgrade to a subscription. And it never found any problems that weren’t already being taken care of by other apps like Spam Sieve and Lulu.

‘The Boys’ Season 4 Opens Up 46% Split Between Critic And Audience Scores

The Boys is back with new weekly installments after its three-episode premiere last week, the next one airing tomorrow, Thursday, June 20. And it’s probably a sign of the times that this season, airing two years after the third one, has opened up a wide split between critics and audiences, at least the kind of audience that likes to score things in protest.

You can see what’s happened here, and what’s changed:

The Boys Season 1 - 85% critics, 90% audience
The Boys Season 2 - 97% critics, 83% audience
The Boys Season 3 - 98% critics, 75% audience
The Boys Season 4 - 95% critics, 49% audience

The running theory here is a significant chunk of the audience have realized the play is about them, as The Boys has gotten more and more forceful about its political allegory in that it is barely even an allegory at this point. Season 3 brought Homelander playing out the “Trump could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue” storyline quite literally, and now Season 4 has gone straight into Qanon and Pizzagate territory, with a man showing up to Starlight’s youth shelter with a gun to “free the kids,” something that also literally happened to the pizza place in the absurd Pizzagate conspiracy. Meanwhile, showrunner Eric Kripke has said outright that new supe/podcast host Firecracker was directly inspired by conservative representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

There are also the previous comments from Kripke which specifically say he does not care what this portion of the audience thinks:

“I clearly have a perspective, and I’m not shy about putting that perspective in the show. Anyone who wants to call the show “woke” or whatever, that’s OK. Go watch something else. But I’m certainly not going to pull any punches or apologize for what we’re doing.

We actually had a $75 gift card that my son gave me. Too bad it didn’t even cover half the bill.

But the food was wonderful, the service great and a good time was had.

FYI, my son is 45. I have three kids with my ex, all of whom are wonderful. Unlike my ex…

It is a little strange realizing that my kids are over 40 or about to get there. Guess they aren’t exactly kids anymore. But we all get along well, unlike their relationship with their mom.

This could be the featured song here if Mr. Johnson likes it and wants to support a small-time musician.

I’m worried that Trump will have an ear bud to tell him what to say. something like what Bush was accused of using. Anyway, then he can just repeat what he is told and sound rational. Then that will be what all the reporting will be about.

Common law and Canon law were explicitly two separate thing to the point that a fellow could make a dash to certain churches and by grabbing hold of the door ring be safe (Sanctuary) from prosecution by secular authority. If one was literate one could also claim benefit of clergy too by being able to read the scripture and thus being under Canon rather than Common law. This wasn’t always a plus if they decided you were heretical but it gave you a few more months till you were killed.
