May angels sing him to his rest. As I normally do, I post this as a tribute to those who served and have passed on:

I thought I had heard the name White Plains before. Your Dad was at Lyte Gulf.

I'm impressed.

R.I.P. sir.

White Plains earned five battle stars during World War II, as well as the Presidential Unit Citation for her part in the Battle off Samar.

A warrior, a beloved father, grandfather and great granddaddy - not to mention all our freedom. A lot to remember and celebrate on his passing.

God speed, Sir.

Your dad sounds like a wonderful man who lived long & well and was very much loved. If we could all accomplish that by the end of our lives, the world would be a better place.

I was a huge daddy's girl and lost my father at 16, so I know what a big hole it leaves in your life. You were very blessed to have him for so many years.

May he rest in tranquility, and may the loss you feel at his departure from this life soon be softened by the arrival of some new joy.
