Dad at his belated Bar Mitzvah, when he was 88 years old

Blog posting will be slow because Babushka’s dad has passed away.

He was born in 1918, the same year that his own father, at the age of 29, passed away in the Spanish Flu Pandemic.

He served in the US Navy during World War II, on the Pacific escort carrier USS White Plains.

He was the greatest dad ever, and a very talented artist. He had 2 children, 10 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Rest well, sailor. I love you Daddy.

White Plains earned five battle stars during World War II, as well as the Presidential Unit Citation for her part in the Battle off Samar.

A warrior, a beloved father, grandfather and great granddaddy - not to mention all our freedom. A lot to remember and celebrate on his passing.

Your dad sounds like a wonderful man who lived long & well and was very much loved. If we could all accomplish that by the end of our lives, the world would be a better place.

I was a huge daddy's girl and lost my father at 16, so I know what a big hole it leaves in your life. You were very blessed to have him for so many years.

May he rest in tranquility, and may the loss you feel at his departure from this life soon be softened by the arrival of some new joy.
