Listen, if we can pay a kid a third if what an adult makes, that's much better for business. It reduces costs which is a win-win for everyone. So what if it puts adults out of work? Kids can live together in group homes, no longer having to worry about their parents living expenses; total waste of our good corporate bottom lines.

And if the kids kick the bucket, big deal, they're replaceable. After all, if they die early, so be it, it's not like anyone had them around long enough to like get attached or anything.

GOP taking America to a new century, the 18th.

Who would want to work any job for $5.25/hour??

Even a lot of minimum wage jobs today are almost more trouble than their worth in terms of stress and demands vs. money made.

You are NOT going to get good, even decent quality employees for $5.25/hr.

They DO want to take the country back! ALL THE WAY BACK.

Why do the Republicans hate America so much? Really. I'm serious. They are trying to take us back to the 18th Century. To when women were nothing but chattel to the men, their husbands. When business was more important than a human.

*sigh* Please. Let me leave the USA now. I truly wish things were in place that I could.

It just doesn't seem real, that stuff this regressive has support among many of my fellow countrymen. I mean, when i was very young, i was hoping that by the 21st century, life was going to slowly start looking like episodes of Star Trek (More Deep Space Nine than the original). Unrealistic, I know, but how cool would that be? Instead, things are more and more starting to resemble 'Birth of a Nation'.

I hate these people. I just am amazed that there are still people left on the Republican side that go along with this bullshit.

I'm waiting for the news article that increases the tax rate on these little miscreants to over 40% for people that make "so much" money at $5.25/hr.

All tax increases on children will be funneled to large corporations to support job growth.

lol. Only in the land of the free!

It's only the land of the free if your income includes seven zeros. Regular folks, well, screw us.

For those of you interested, here is the text of the federal law that this proposal violates:

USC TITLE 29 CHAPTER 8 - LABOR:FAIR LABOR STANDARDS

Federal minimum wage is currently $7.25/hr - the only exemptions are for seasonal farm labor, food service wait staff (who are primarily compensated via tips), and self-employed contract workers.

Often the rationale for paying women and young people less is because they aren't supporting a family or are a second income. In other words "to each according to his needs."

Why do the Republicans want to impose Communism on us? //

Because capitalists and communists agree on how a capitalistic system works. They agree that business is in it to make money. They agree that this seeking after profit is the only goal of a capitalist system. They agree that workers in such a system are there to be exploited.

They even agree that such actions will cause a class war, which the side they support (the proletariat in the Marxist view, the bourgeois in the capitalist), will win this war.

They are far more similar than different despite their protestations otherwise.

Federal Law: (State Laws supercede these)

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requires a minimum of not less than $4.25 per hour for employees under 20 years of age during their first 90 consecutive calendar days of employment with an employer. After 90 days of employment, or when the worker reaches age 20 (whichever comes first), the worker must receive the minimum wage. Employers are prohibited from taking any action to displace employees in order to hire employees at the youth minimum wage. Also prohibited are partial displacements such as reducing employees’ hours, wages, or employment benefits.

Other programs that allow for payment of less than the full federal minimum wage apply to workers with disabilities, full-time students, and student-learners employed pursuant to sub-minimum wage certificates. These programs are not limited to the employment of young workers.

So this is $1 higher than the min required, but for longer. Trade-off of some sort.

I bet a child- hating rethug made the $4.25 an hour law in the first place.

That said- have you ever hired a bunch of 15 year olds to work? You get about $3 an hour worth of work out of them between the texting and the giggling.

/ Yeah, I hate children.

I don't think the republicans hate children. They clearly love the low wages they command.
