In a nutshell this is why jobs are outsourced. No EPA, no OSHA, no Unions, no oversight, no rules, no regulations, no workers rights. Plus you pay them whatever you choose to and if they don't do as told you can hold wages? Plus they are rewarded for moving offshore? No wonder they lavish huge bonus' on themselves. Laughing all the way to the bank and it's not just Apple.

Finally this is being taken up seriously. When WQired had the article about suicides, the general reaction was pretty much "meh, I want my Ipad"

Alouette: come on, I've asked you at least three times to use blockquotes instead of just pasting in the text of an article. It's not cool to do it this way, and it's also not cool to quote so much of an article. Companies like the New York Times are very protective of their copyrights, and if you keep doing this you're going to get LGF in trouble.

Quotes from articles should be NO MORE than 4 paragraphs, preferably less, unless you're specifically commenting on something in the article. And they must be correctly blockquoted to make it clear that's it's not your writing.

Seriously, this has to stop. I don't have time to keep cleaning up these posts -- I'm going to start simply deleting any Pages that don't follow these rules.

Note to self: highlight the excerpt BEFORE clicking on the LGF bookmarklet and voila, pre-blockquoted!

Exactly!

And you can put blockquotes around any text in the bookmarklet editing window by selecting it and clicking the 'quote' icon at upper right.

For $850, you should at least get a cruelty-free product.

Where is the money going?

I'm wondering, why single out Apple? As far as I know every consumer electronics company uses the same type of labour.

As well, I don't believe most of us would pay for products that reflect the prices that would be generated by Western wage standards. Most of us would comparison shop and go for the cheaper product.

Sad, but there it is.

Apple is singled out because this specific incident happened.

And its' the third polishing plant explosion to happen (If I read it right).

The real emotional hook though is the way Apple really likes to paint themselves as the good guys, when really they're exactly the same (aside from being more expensive).

And Dell, HP, Nintendo and Sony claim to be bad guys, so there's no problem with them exploiting their workers?

Also, I wonder, no one complains if a person buys a Mercedes or a Ferrari. Why does Apple get the bad rap for their products?

Apple is now worth more than fucking Exxon, that's why

Apple is all about marketing their image to liberals and creatives, that's also why

They're currently more influential than any other technology country on earth, damn right they get a bad rap, that's the breaks

ferraris are not assembled by chinese slave labor, dude! They're made in Italy by people who make a living wage and don't get their faces melted off their skulls

And in this case because the explosion just happened, we've been over this. Beyond that, Apple is a prominent company that's in a lot of people's minds so its a good way to draw attention to the problem.

PS: Ferrari's one factory in italy is totally a center of worker abuse and white slavery, I know!

In fairness the Satnavs are probably made in China. Germans care a bit more about quality than companies like Apple though, so who knows?
