People who want to move to Canada because the U.S. isn't lefty enough... are more in touch with reality than people who want to move to Canada because the U.S. is too lefty. Okay?

If the question is health care -- Canada is single payer, financed through progressive taxation.

Just like, anybody who wants to move to Canada to get away from the OMG Gay Marriage!!... in the U.S. it's only a few states, in Canada it's nationwide.

Well, they'll have to reside in Canada for 3 months before they'll be eligible for Canada's (non-mandated) health insurance.

Being an American is a pre-existing condition?

Breaking: Many Republicans want to escape socialist health care, but they can't find a modern and wealthy Western nation that doesn't already have socialized medicine as well.

Breaking: Modern and wealthy Western nations with socialized medicine have responded that any Republicans moving to their country would be seen as an act of war on the part of the United States.

If people think the United States is socialist than Canada might as well be a communist dictatorship.

Canada's federal income taxes look to be lower than ours. I suppose they figure if they are going to be in a socialist country it may as well be an efficient one ;)

15% on the first $42,707 of taxable income, +
22% on the next $42,707 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $42,707 up to $85,414), +
26% on the next $46,992 of taxable income (on the portion of taxable income over $85,414 up to $132,406), +
29% of taxable income over $132,406.

Our population is ten times theirs; our military budget is 35 times theirs. Think that could have something to do with it?

To put it another way, our military budget is 4.7% of GDP; theirs is 1.4%.

First off, it was a joke, thus the smiley emoticon.

But if you want to get into the weeds, population is pretty irrelevant when you are talking percentages. Military budget is certainly a factor. Health care spending per capita in the US is currently double Canadas. Approximately 46% of which is medicare/medicaid. So the government already spends per capita about as much as canada and only covers a fraction of the population. I'd say canada is being more efficient.

Sorry folks, we have a newly erected electric fence and alligator infested moat along the border between Canada and the US.
