The truth about Malcolm X is, like it is for every human, complicated. His evolution is not what is remembered by most and to mainstream America he will always be the personification of the scary, angry black man.
After having read his autobiography as a teenager, his evolution is the biggest thing that I took from it. That made me reevaluate much of my outlook on life.

Human beings will always remember what they see as a threat over what they might see as as helpful or hopeful. It’s just how our brains are set up, a product of evolution. And because of that, Malcolm X will always be seen as threatening by those who don’t really know who he was.

What do you base that on?

What do you base that on?

Books and articles I’ve read, my own observations of humanity, and my continuing self-analysis.

An example: You’re walking at night and right before you pass an ally you see a shadow move in it. What that shadow is you don’t know, but you’ll still likely cross the street if possible to put distance between you and it. You’ll do so because even though its probably nothing, if you act as if it is nothing and it turns out to be a threat you’re in trouble.

But I think predisposition, based on life experience and other learning, will determine your and my reactions when we see a shadowy person on the street. You might see a threat where I see an ally against undetermined threats.

I love Malcolm, but could you imagine the collective freak out if Obama actually put a bust of Malcolm X in the Oval Office?

May Allah swt bless Malik el-Shabazz. He was truly a wonderful man that I still hold dear to. His legacy will never ever be forgotten.

Maybe they should watch Spike Lee’s Malcolm X before whining like a bunch of entitled brats first.
