Speaking of the desperately unemployed, while the unemployment rate in this country improved a bit in the last report, it should be noted that this “improvement” was accompanied with another decrease in the participation rate. In other words, more people are just choosing to not be part of the labor force, so they don’t show up as “unemployed.”

I see people all over the place begging - several tonight in front of the supermarket.

Right… I heard it quoted somewhere that if you added all those unreported people it might be as high as 17%.
