Hey, I lived in Kensington 40 yrs ago and it was a tough working class neighborhood then. And full of narrow little streets and nothing but row houses but no parks there. I lived on Hope St and N. American St., both above Girard and close to and parallel to Front St (our local shopping area)—probably not there any longer. It was an experience, for sure since there is no kind of urban industrial housing like that in the south. The south specialized in “shotgun” houses, though for its mill workers but they were cheaply built, one story, clapboard stand alones.

I drove down through that area (Kensington) last week. Basically followed the SEPTA line down Kensington Ave and along Front St. as it was the first time I came down through there. So I was on a main street rather than in the warren of row houses. Still seems very working class neighborhood as compared to the gentrified areas around Rittenhouse and the Museum District.
