re: #29 Frenchy

It really is outrageous that the officer was allowed to skip town to God knows where. That is not the action of an innocent man, and that the department apparently knew about it and allowed it is yet another sign that their primary objective is to protect him at all costs, not to see that justice is done.

I get that there may be legitimate concerns for his safety since this has become a high-profile case, but I have to think that they could be addressed in some other way than for him to just vanish like a fart in the wind. (Here’s just one idea I had: Put him in a jail cell where he belongs.)

Hell, at this point I question whether he would even show up for trial, or whether the department might actually assist in keeping him hidden.

I expect that if he’s charged, he’ll show up promptly. I also expect that he’s not vanished from the point of view of the authorities, even if the general public doesn’t know where he is. It wouldn’t surprise me if his movements are limited and he’s wearing some sort of ankle device or what have you. If I wanted to protect a man against a lynching, didn’t have the evidence to charge him, and didn’t have evidence to exonerate him either, that would sort of cover the bases.
