Guess that depends on how you define regular christian belief. There are lots of christian off shoots, some extremely liberal, like unitarianism, or universalism. Most are somewhere between there and fundamentalism. Even Roman catholicism teaches that hell doesn’t exist as a place, it is just the state of being separated from God.

Yep. “Regular” Christian is no longer an applicable construct (hell, it hasn’t been for thousands of years - look at the Catholic/Orthodox split), no matter what the fundamentalists want to tell you.
