re: #6 zombie

By sheer random accident I once stumbled across an actual Special Olympics track-and-field finals, being held on Edwards Field at Cal Berkeley. Even as cynical and sarcastic as I was at the time, I was touched by what I saw. And having read how disabled people were treated throughout most of history (i.e. abysmally), it was practically a miracle to see their humanity shining through.

If anyone is looking for a worthwhile cause, I recommend volunteering for a Special Olympics event. One of our closest friends has a Downs Syndrome child and asked us to help at a Track and Field meet and it was one of the most enjoyable times I have ever had. One afternoon or once a month or once a year. It will make a difference to these wonderful kids and it will make a difference in yourself too.
