I think the point is we are supposed to have a progressive tax, where the rich pay a higher tax rate. If the secretary is left with $42,000 after taxes at 30 percent on 60K, a guy making 50 million would still be left with a tidy 35 million at the same rate. There is no question that the rich pay more in taxes, and always have.

The wealthy would still pay more with a flat tax.
Progressive taxation is a form of penalty for success.
With our taxes we buy goods & services from the government & a wealthy man gets the same military protection etc that an average citizen gets.
