I teach Listening Comprehension and Spoken English, so most discussions occur during the latter. But I do feed them material in both classes that I hope will get them thinking, and a recent debate I staged went over very well. The topic was “in a relationship, must the man always make more than the woman?” They like assignments like that, because they rarely get a chance in their other classes to discuss issues.

That’s fascinating. What other thought debates can you get into? How far might you be able to go without getting into trouble? Can you do these debates on multiple subjects as long as you stay away from government?
