Let’s see if I understand the logic you propose:

a) Offensive thing occurs (in this case Pepe the Frog hijacked by Nazis)
b) Someone attempts corrective measure
c) Corrective measure draws criticism and attacks from same offenders
d) Corrective measure should never have been tried.

therefore… .

e) No one should try corrective measures.

Alternative example:

a) Racism has occurred throughout the USA’s history
b) Someone attempts corrective measure (Martin Luther King)
c) Corrective measure draws criticism and attacks from same offenders (King killed)
d) Corrective measure should never have been tried (King should have left racists alone)

Funny how hindsight is twenty-twenty. You would be applauding the ADL and the creator of Pepe if their move was successful.
