It would help it we treated working hours as a resource. A hundred years ago the 50-hr week was common. Now the national optimum might be 30 hrs, with overtime and other penalties above the base. (My first adult job, 45 years ago, was a 37.5 hr week in an ILGWU unionized warehouse.)

Target is doing its damnedest to keep us at 15 hours a week or less.
