I wonder how it works for current events/political blogs like this one? Thinking of all the photos used in posts, pages, etc (though my original question pertained to a different site I’m working on)

All you can do is exercise as much judgment as possible. I’ve actually been licensing photos recently from Shutterstock, and for front page posts, I never just take a photo from the wire services and repost it. AP and Reuters have made it pretty clear that they’re not happy about blogs doing that, and although they’ve never contacted me about it I have no desire to be the test case.

Lots of right wing blogs seem to have no hesitation at all about wholesale copyright violation, when it comes to images. breitbart.com is definitely one - I seriously doubt they’re purchasing the rights for all those photos they use.
