You’re referring to the 2d Avenue Subway, which got started in the 70s and stopped when the money ran out. They’ve restarted that project, and have 2d Avenue ripped up in the 90s. It will be a decade before that stretch is done.

The ARC tunnel is meant to supplement the existing two tunnels, which will be 100 years old. They’re a safety hazard, and a backup there can mean trouble along the entire NE Corridor for Amtrak, Metro North, and NJ Transit. It’s a mess, and the money trouble is irresponsible.

I was without exactly knowing the name…my buddy at 3rd and 92nd had great hopes for that line, that’s how I knew about it…NYC trains fascinate me…thanks
