It is not uncommon at all for those kinds of confessions to be disregarded by the police and prosecutors. Now, they shouldn’t be believed without question either, but often they’re entirely ignored as they were here.

Jailhouse confessions are something we hear about often in crime dramas and investigation shows, but how often is it that cops look into them and find out it’s just some no-name hoodlum trying to make a name for himself by taking credit for a crime he didn’t commit? Or trying to swing a deal with a desperate prosecutor by promising the “smoking gun” in exchange for a “Get Out Of Jail Free” card?
