We can’t let the Talis have control of this or they could end up working deals with the Chinese or even the Russians to get a real air force and cruise missiles.

It would take them 35 years to develop a full infrastructure to mine, that would be a near miracle, what with the centuries of warfare and all. Best case scenario, they get some basic infrastructure taking a baby step into the modern world.

There is no stretch of the imagination that they would have an air-force or cruise missile capacity appearing in Afghanistan, certainly not at the hands of the Taliban.
