Personally, I’ve gotten to the point where those kinds of things just depress me and question the capacity for humans to be rational. Starting to strike too close to home for me to easily laugh at or the like.

I don’t like what’s going on, but this is what the culture wars and the identity politics in America have wrought over the last 30-40 years. Each party has had candidates that most reflect the people who have been most inclined to vote for them in elections. These candidates do not represent all Republicans, but they do represent the base of the GOP. If you look at the two parties demographics (ethnicity, age, socio-economics, geographic, etc.) it makes sense that the Democratic Party would eventually produce a Barack Obama and that the GOP would eventually produce all of these people.
