Sort of…it’s the last stand of the old culture warriors. We’ll see a lot of homophobia breaking out on the right this year for that reason. DADT, DOMA, Prop 8, etc.

Yes, but it’s looking more and more like it is a last stand. Now a foe can often be most dangerous right before its downfall as it recognizes its impending defeat, but I think it’s dawning on the SoCons the gay issue is on its way to being lost for them.

Moreover, I really am sensing among Republicans a strong will to accept a broader base. Yes, I know it doesn’t seem that way. But you have to look at races in context. Scott Brown will not be pilloried for his recent support of the jobs bill. He even had the backing of DeMint. DeMint may be far right, but he’s not stupid enough to no know what he was supporting. The New York special election was a case where the person running on the R ticket did not reflect the majority of the districts Republican voters.
