The Trump tweak of this tactic is that he always accuses his opponents of something that he has actually done. This serves the double purpose of:

1. Deflecting attention away from him.
2. Promoting the bogus notion that “Everybody does it!”

Well, I don’t think he assassinated JFK, or he’s a Native American (the Warren slur), but mostly true.
