Power, prestige, and at one time, it was a stepping stone to being President of the US. Now, the governor is a someone who presides over a bloated state budget that is structurally in a perpetual deficit because of ongoing pension obligations and requirements to pay for programs it can’t afford while the unions hold sway and prevent any meaningful reform to help get the state on a firm financial ground.
