I’m going to guess that a beveled edge has the ability to “cut” into the ice better, the difference between trying to clear your windshield with a CD box (Square) vs an ice scraper (beveled). But I bet a beveled edge wears faster (thinner metal at the point of contact).

Do I win a prize? (Remember, I’m a non-skiing muldoon)

It’s been years since I skiied, but… many of us just don’t do ice. Myself, I like a well-manicured packed-powder mogul-y slope, with a lodge at the bottom that has drinks service to in front of the big fireplace. Also jacuzzis. My brother is into the deep powder, he does helicopter skiing. He also knows how to build an igloo when/if he gets lost, how to make air pockets mid-tumble if he gets caught in an avalanche, and how to find “up” after coming to a stop.
