I wonder if this is Beck’s Mormon theology showing through, or what?

Just answering my own question: After some preliminary Googling, I’m thinking that Beck indeed had in mind a peculiarly Mormon conception of “Lucifer” when he made that May 5 comment.

Here’s a relevant quote from the Book of Moses, which LDS members consider to be canonical Scripture:

1 And I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying: That Satan, whom thou hast commanded in the name of mine Only Begotten, is the same which was from the beginning, and [Satan, then known as Lucifer] came before me, saying—”Behold, here am I, send me, I will be thy son, and I will redeem all mankind, that one soul shall not be lost, and surely I will do it; wherefore give me thine honor.”

(It doesn’t make Beck’s statement less crazy or irresponsible — just puts a slightly different spin on it.)
