Are they in control of their spaces, particularly the Capitol, the flagstaff which now flies Trump’s flag and not America’s, or Nancy Pelosi’s office?

They’ve only been there a couple hours.

They are also raiding state capitols.

For the moment it is a coup attempt.

That it is unlikely to succeed and does not resemble others attempted in foreign locales does not make it any less of a coup. Coups across history have started as “riots” which escalated until those in power either fled or were removed by force.
