The founding fathers deliberately created a system in which no one man had the power to do whatever he wanted. The blue dog democrats in Congress were only a little more conservative than the GOP, which absolutely refused to cooperate with the President at all. If Obama had insisted on a single payer universal health care law, it wouldn’t have passed, period.

Actually, I’m not sure Obama wanted single payer. Reform, sure.

But when you look at what he’s said and what he’d written prior to office…

In 1970 he’d have been a bit right of Nixon.
